Indeed! It is pity how writers seem lost about what to do with Raj. There are a few things they could explore about his character and they seem to be forgotten.Raj has a different  background of his friends as he is a foreigner working and living in a different country from he was born so he has a few cultural differences that could be explored. He doesnt work with the guys but he has a such interisting profession that is usually  never mentioned and he has usually never said any facts about Astronomy. It is like he just hang out with the gang and collect exes, which is a pity. I really hope the writers can save the character in some way but rather without damage none of the others for save him, you know. Because if  Raj might be gay or bi, he could be and not necessarily he had to date one of his  close friends like Howard.

They have mentioned  his discoveries (the two asteroids) and they talked about an article he wrote (you remember when he was near to get deported to India and went to an interview for a new job for a new project?). I always thought that it would be nice, to see him looking through a telescope watching the stars, while he philosophises about the universe and its infinity and the possibility that someone might be looking at the sky and wishing to find someone as well. Astronomy is amazing and there are so many things he could talk about with the guys.

You 're right. I should have added they had not mentioned his work lately but had done before.  My distraction, lol!

But it seems it was about ages ago he did some things , as lately the subject for Raj is girls and why he fails with them. As you said Astronomy is amazing and sometimes Raj seems so empty of subject for interisting talks as scientists usual are able to. Dont get me wrong, I used to like the guy and I wish I could like again.

Sorry I've spent all my likes for today! Don't worry, nobody is perfect my memory fails me often enough. :shy:

You are right everything he did was long ago (the discovery of Amy the asteroid last year, then his trip to this mine with Sheldon, I would have loved if they had done that trip, because I find these RaShel episodes nice, but they are so rare) I know it's hard to like Raj, but I hope that the latest developments will lead to something good so he changes for good. He is an ass often but he did a lot good things as well and he supports his friends when they need him. He just needs to be kicked sometimes, because growing up with servants, I guess no one ever raised a word against him, when he was wrong or acted bad. I don't know if it can be fixed now that he is grown man, but he seems to realize that he has to change and wants to. I hope he doesn't give up.

I'd like to see Rajesh  meeting a woman PhD in a similar field so they can talk to each other, but one who is a bit like Amy used to be. He needs someone he can bring out of her shell but who's not riddled with any anxiety, just had her head over a microscope or telescope so much the fun has passed her by. Instead of going after the already glamorous and pretty, he'll appreciate her other qualities and finally fall in love properly. He can get her into the girls' posse via Bernadette but he'll do as much of the helping her to choose clothes and hairstyles, make up etc as the girls do. He can feminise her to his heart's content and she'll enjoy it.

A scientist would be nice or a dog owner like Yvette was.

It could be funny, if Raj had some urological problems, so he goes to an urologist (Dr. Sam King or something) and it turns out that Dr. King is a woman.

First he doesn´t want to be checked by her, but then he changes his mind and lets her check him.

Later he tells his friends about her.

"When she touched down there, it felt like magic", his eyes looking dreamily, while the others give him a disturbed look.

A romantic encounter at the planetarium would be nice as well. Or he could meet someone in the park, while he goes for a walk with Cinnamon.

Should we writers really change Raj for good and decide to give him an interesting plot or at least a partner, I will open a Raj thread.

"Stuart, dont drink my milk!!"

This was creepy but funny at same time, I almost choked in my tea , lol!!

I know it's writers style but it kind of bummer me that Howard in a week was helping Sheldon with his reading emotions issues and in next one is putting things in Sheldon's water for keep him busy while he and Leonard worked. Course their relationship had always some tension, Sheldon mocked Howard again about the kind of engeneering he studied, but I rather see more continuos growth from these characters, especially when one of them is a father now. But well maybe I am surprised soon :)

Loved the girls plotline, it was nice as they were trying  to get back old times but also heartbroken as they feel sad about some things that changed or there are missing yet in their lives. The milk thrown line after Amy and Penny cried was not funny imo but it fits in tbbt scenes style.

Looking foward to seeing more plotlines with Howardette together with their Halley, as this week they were in boys and girl plotlines apart.

Btw, the spongebob and patrick line was priceless! It really fits with Raj and Stuart looked like all the episode!

The baby cry is starting to annoy me (and probably only me lol). I get why it's in there as a homage to Howard's mother and the actress who played here but it wasn't the actual rasping voice that made that character amusing it was what she actually said. Of course a baby can't do that lol.

In terms of this week's storyline I think it was good for them to try and get Bernie out of the house and do something like she used to do. I would imagine a lot of new mothers struggle at times to try and get to perhaps some old routines or habits like going out with their friends. A new baby takes up a lot of time and of course then you have the natural emotions of wanting to not be away from your baby that much as well. Bernie had some really good lines once again this week.

Raj and Stuart sucked into babysitter mode again but I feel like it kind of worked for this episode with Bernie going out, them checking with her, Bernie not sure she should be going out etc. It kind of just made sense with those storylines and the dialogue.

I saw the Stuart milk line coming for sure, Creepy Stuart is creepy lol. I wonder who is running his business whilst he is babysitting lol

I've enjoyed Howard's time away and being involved in some other storylines. I thought he was great in the emotion one and had some great lines and scenes in this one. As usual with the writers it's just finding that right blend with both Bernie and Howard of parental storyline mode, individual storylines or with another character and then group storylines. I think they are doing a pretty good job with that right now.

I'm excited to hear that Bernie finally returns to work. I wonder why she is unhappy about it, because it has always been important to her.

It's surely because she misses Halley and thinks that she acts shelfish if she leaves her.

Now I'm curious how Howard handles everything, both household and baby. I hope that Stuart still works at the Comic shop, so he is away at least a few hours, because I want Howard to grow with his tasks and find his way. I'm sure the outcome will be hilarious. :icon_cheesygrin:

I can't wait to see him melting when Halley does her first steps or calls him daddy. Or how she hides somewhere around the house and he uses the NASA equipment to find her. Or he uses the Mars Rover to drive her around so she falls asleep. Or the robots who help Howard with the household turn against him and turn the house upside down. With a daddy like him, she will never get bored.

What a nice comment @Desdemona!

I didn't care much about Howardette in past seasons but I they grew on me, especially this season. I've lost a lot of trust in the writers because of their awful treatment of Lenny but I do trust them with Bernie's motherhood stories. I hope they will handle this one as good as they did the previous ones (including the pregnancy).

I agree! TBH I didn't care that much about Bernie's pregnancy and I've never been eager to see babies in the show. But the writers have handled the whole thing very well; they have told Bernie's pregnancy from non-conventional angles, speaking about her fears for her work and her initial lack of enthusiasm for the baby. Then they have chosen to not show Halley on-screen as an homage to Carol Ann Susi, which was exactly how I hoped it would have been. I know not everyone likes this choice, but for me it was brilliant. I can also understand that the moment when a mother ends her maternity leave might be difficult, even for women who really like their job and are looking forward to return to work. I hope the writers continue the good job they have make for Howardette also telling this story.

Yeah, even though they're mainly in the back seat re big plots, I actually think the best writing this season has been for Howardette, especially Bernie , whose one liners have been gold all season.

Agree with you all, howardette have been growing on me this season and Simon and Melissa really rock as couple. Their chemestry is great and their performances have been spot on as the plot deeps.

About the baby off of screen, I wonder if the show will keep Halley in that way.  Two more years is long time for a baby to grow and we never see her. Meanwhile she would start taking first steps...

Really curious about everything about this sweet, funny and clever couple!

Aww, thank you @bfm! :icon_redface:

I always had a soft spot for Howardette, especially for Howard who made me laugh so much in the past, although I must say that I was not a fan of how Bernadette turned into a replacement for Howard´s mom, or that their friends, pointed out that Howard wouldn´t find another woman who is willing to take him. Despite his awkward flirt attempts and his macho attitudes, he is a nice guy who has a lot to give. (As you could see when he sang this song to Bernie on their anniversary or the speech he was holding when Bernie found out about his past, or how he always tries to excel with his gifts for Bernie or how happy he was about the baby).

I´m happy how sensitive and realistic they treat their story, without loosing themselves. I wished the writers would treat Lenny with more care too, like they do with Howardette.

I like Bernie a lot this season her fears and flaws, make her very likeable and the viewer can relate to her even more.

Let´s hope, that we find out how her return to work looks like and how she fights, because I´m sure that there´s a lot of rivalry between her and her colleagues, who are surely interested to get her position and her bureau as well.

I liked Howardette in this episode a lot!

It was sweet when Bernadette expressed her feelings about returning to work, I really felt with her and wanted to hug her, although I didn´t understand why she didn´t tell Howard.

Maybe she thought that she was a fool thinking like that?

And I didn´t understand Stuart´s reaction either, when Bernie said she was fine, I´m sure Howard would have found out without Stuart´s help.

I like Stuart and I hope for better stories for him than Halley´s babysitter and now being the one who intervenes in Howardette´s relationship. He seems to be a substitute for Raj and I don´t like it, TBH.

I had to smile when Howard confessed that he didn´t passed the message to Bernie about her aunt´s death and even sends cards to Bernie.

This was sad and sweet at the same time, oh Howie!

It was very heart-warming when he finally talked to Bernadette, to find out what was wrong. I love it, when he kisses her on the head and is caring and attentive. I think his answer that they can still undo things, was the best answer he could give her. It was touching when he said, while he was holding her hand and tried to make her smile, joking about babies being stupid.

I guess now that Halley goes to the kindergarden and now that Howardette both work, there will be no Howard on paternal leave?

IMO, it is a missed oportunity, but I´m still hoping for Bernie to be away for a weekend and to see Howard taking care of Halley without the help of Stuart.

One can dream right?

The aunt thing was cruel but I'll let that pass since it is a sitcom and we know that Bernie also has some questionable morals (which doesn't make it right! it's just the way this couple is depicted)...

I really liked their talk, Howard was very cute and mature, especially using "we".

I get the nod to Mrs. Wolowitz but I hope we will get to see Halley sometimes in the next 2 seasons...She will be older and I'm curious about what kind of toddler she will be. It will be nice to see some Howard/Bernie features in her.

Oh I dream with you about this! Howard in charge of Halley as he could show how good father he is as he took care of her in Bernie absence for some reason would be cool. If it had the bonus as we saw Bernie and Howard sharing  tasks related with their daughter would be nice as it showed a reality many parents live as the sense only mothers know and had to care of everything related with their children is something old fashion. Modern couples share everything equally and that's  fair for everyone.

I know what you mean and understand your concerns regarding them, that´s the writers humour.

For me it was just typical Howard, who was just too afraid to tell Bernie that he forgot to tell her about her aunt, so he acted like she was still alive. It was certainly not right, but they have both problems with honesty (and not only them), but I hope that they keep working on it. As there are two seasons still, I hope we will see Howardette growing up and growing together with their daughter. Especially Howard needs to grow up and take responsibility for the tasks at home and for his tasks as a father. Wouldn´t it be nice to see him trying and get rewarded for his attempts, with a smile from his daughter or kiss from his wife, saying that she proud of him? It would be refreshing to see Howardette living as husband and wife and get rid off the "Howard is still a kid and needs to be educated by Bernie"-plots.

As much as I would like to see Halley as toddler, I don´t think the writers will let her appear, so we will only hear her. (I hope they keep Halley´s voice actor, because I think she is hilarious)

I took it as comedy. It is typical Howard. My comment was more on how it would be if we consider it seriously for a moment. I don't want them perfect, there is no comedy with perfect people and there no perfect people. However, as you say, they could show some progress within the remaining years :)

That would be lovely indeed, if we saw them, raising Halley, sometimes failing and other times not, but working together as a unit, supporting each other in a sweet way. They need to be strong, because otherwise they will have a hard time with Halley when she becomes older. Especially if she becomes as chaotic as her father. Or as loud and threating as her mother. Or a mixture of both. LOL

I hope that Howard teaches his daughter all these languages he speaks, it would be great to see him speaking with her Chinese or Russian, if they want to communicate out of Bernie´s earshot. Or if he sang some lullaby in an other language, rocking her to sleep, while he down at her and you see the love his face expresses. (Please writers, pleeeeeeeaaaaaase I love when Simon speaks in different languages!!!!)

If we would take everything from a serious standpoint, we couldn´t enjoy this show anymore and would stop watching. Sometimes the writers exaggerate with the jokes, but we know them, so we have to accept this. And I, at least, have my writing I can return to, if I don´t like something.

It is relieving to write down the frustration, better than to destroy things or punch others. :icon_cheesygrin:

Jessica Radloff, in her  TBBT related column, devoted her last two articles to Howardette.

http://www.glamour.com/story/the-big-bang-theory-season-10-episode-20-recap

In the 10.19 recap she spoke against the fact Halley is never shown on-screen. As far as I can tell, there are mixed feelings about this fact in the fandom. I've seen many people asking to stop with this "non-sense", while many other fans (and I'm among them) find the whole idea so brilliant and so touching, since it is also a homage towards Carol Ann Susi. The 10.20 recap, instead, she is full of admiration about how the writers are handling those challenges connected with parenthood. I agree so much on this, it's really amazing how the writers are doing everything right with Bernie's pregnancy (her duration apart, of course) and the RL situations Howardette are facing while learning how to parent.

Thank you so much for the links Mirs1!

While I disagree with Ms. Radloff that we need to see Halley, I totally loved how she recapped episode 20.

I agree with you, that they didn´t need to show Halley, because it is such a nice hommage to Carol Ann Susi and I would like the writers to keep it that way, so her memory will live on.

BTW as Bernie has problems to understand jokes, it would be nice if she and Sheldon had worked together on this, since he has problems with it too.

I think this was more of a Bernadette 1.0 thing, you know this character that was so different than the Bernadette we have now. Bernie of now seems to understand jokes, although she doesn't appreciate everyone of Howard's jokes.

But wasn´t there an episode where Raj was upset and Howardette visited him at his office and Bernie gave him a basket with muffins and made muffin related jokes about  them which neither Howard nor Raj found funny? So I still think, she has issues with it.

If I don´t remember wrong, this was not so long ago. (At least it was not from the early years of Howardette)

Bernadette's issues are compounded by the fact that she didn't want a child and her concession to the idea of being a parent was taken several years ago when her career had hardly begun, Howard was in a position to stay at home, and his mother couldn't wait to be a grandma. She's probably still mentally trying to operate on the old plans while  the whole scenery has changed.

Now, she's years older, Howard's work renders him pretty much indispensable for the time being, and her mother-in-law is dead. So,she's having to resort to some daycare, her parents - an ex-cop who was never at home to be much of a parent himself and a chocolate teapot who left her children to drag themselves up - and Stuart who has a shop to run. She also has motherly feelings she didn't expect. It would help if somehow the gyrospcope got finished unexpectedly early and her work could be part-time for a while.

I don´t know how much Howard gets, but no matter if Howard is working on the gyroscope or finishes it earlier, Bernie could work part-time if she wants to spend more time with Halley. I´m sure she could manage both things and they could still live with the pay cut.

Speaking of Bernie´s mom. I´m confused about the portray of Bernie´s mom.

On one hand she seemed to control her daughter outlaying the dresses for her and forbidding her to drive any bicycles, on the other hand, Bernie had to take care of her siblings, feeding and changing diapers for them.  (I guess that she was the eldest of them all or one of the elder children?)

While she was telling Howard about her childhood, I had the feeling that she was pretty alone, while she was taking care of her siblings, at least she didn´t mention her mother helping her, or that she was helping her mother because they were so many kids, that her mother was overstrained with the kids. As fas as I remember, she never mentioned that her mother was working, but who knows, maybe that was the reason why she had to take care of her siblings.
