CBS released the Live + 7 for the premiere.  It was up by 2.0 in demo and 5.7 million in viewers.  This gives it a 5.8 demo with 21.52 million viewers for Live + 7.   In viewers, this will move it to number 2 for the week, about a million behind Sunday Night Football and it will be the number one Entertainment program.

As for demo, the show had a 3.8 for Live + same day, and went up 1.6 in the Live + 3, to 5.4.   Empire had a 4.2 for Live + Same Day, and went up 1.3 for Live + 3, giving it a 5.5.  TBBT picked up another four tenths between four  day and seven day DVR viewers.     I expect, at worst, TBBT will be tied with Empire in Live + 7, and it's possible that Empire will only pick up two tenths in Live + 7, giving it a Live + 7 of 5.7, leaving TBBT either tied or with, the highest rated entertainment show for the week.

Wow...what a debacle for Empire, just checked and in last Season premiere it had a 9.4  demo for Live + 7! It really helps to get things into prospective for TBBT!

For most things Vittoria, I can san, no, it isn't always first.  Even by most measures it isn't first, most of the time.  If you mean demo, for Live + Same Day, Live + 3 Day, or Live + 7.  It's Sunday Night Football and even Thursday Night Football that has been higher than non-sports programming for about three years now.  Since last year, Empire has been higher in demo for all three measures, for non-sports programs.
If you mean viewers, it depends on the week for either of the measures.  Sunday Night Football, and even NCIS beats TBBT most weeks in Live + Same day.  For Live + 3, Football is the highest, and it depends on the week as NCIS and TBBT have beaten football.  For Live + 7 it's either Sunday Night Football, or TBBT, again, it depends on the week (for example last week, Sunday Night Football will beat TBBT by over a million viewers).

Thank you for your detailed explanation,Tensor!

Week 02, Syndicated ratings, Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Based on preseason week  numbers,  12-18 September, 2016.

Top Ten in Households:

           Show                                           Household Rating

  1. Judge Judy                                               7.0
  2. Family Feud                                            6.3
  3. Wheel of Fortune                                   5.7
  4. Jeopardy                                                  5.4
  5. TBBT                                                         5.0
  6. Dr Phil                                                      3.8
  7. Law and Order:SVU                               3.4
  8. Entertainment Tonight                          2.9
  9. TBBT                            Weekend            2.9
  10. Family Feud                Weekend            2.9

Top ten in 25-54 Women:

          Show                                             25-54 Women Rating

  1. TBBT                                                          3.1
  2. Judge Judy                                                 2.9
  3. Family Feud                                              2.8
  4. Law and Order:SVU                                 2.2
  5. Modern Family                                         2.1
  6. TBBT                            Weekend              1.9
  7. Wheel of Fortune                                     1.8
  8. Family Feud                                              1.7
  9. Jeopardy                                                    1.6
  10. Access Hollywood    Weekend               1.4

I've gotten the question as to why the 25-54 rating.   For daytime shows, the women 25-54 is the more important ratings.  As you can see, TBBT still does rather well with this demo.   There is a show called Weekend Adventure.  It is a group of nature programs broadcast during the day on weekends for kids.  I've pulled it as it is not late Afternoon/early evening programming.

The final ratings for Empire were a 3.7 (it was 3.6 for the overnights, tied with TBBT's finals).  This has been the closest TBBT has been to Empire, since near the end of 2014.  When we get the Live + 3 each of them and based on those numbers for this week, I have a feeling TBBT will pass Empire.

As for renewal prospects, I now don't think the drop, of the premiere will affect renewal.  Most series dropped by around 11-12% off their premiere week numbers, TBBT only dropped 6%, putting it further ahead of most other series, and almost catching Empire (3.6 to 3.7).    In addition, with it's Live + 7 increase (2.0 and almost six million viewers) I don't see it collapsing, and I believe it will remain one of the top two or three shows for the year, in both demo and viewers.

Another indication of TBBT strength this season.  Last night, CBS ran repeats of the show at 8 PM and 9 PM (the NFL network had last nights game).    The 8 PM show got a 4.7 in households, for second place in its time slot and the 9 PM show got a 3.7 household rating and finished second in its time slot.  Over all, TBBT finished second for the night, with that 4.6 and fifth with the 3.7.  Here is the top seven:

Grey's Anatomy                             6.0

TBBT    8 PM                                   4.6

Chicago Med                                  4.5

The Blacklist                                   4.1

TBBT    9 PM                                   3.7

Notorious                                        3.4

How to Get Away with Murder    3.4

All, except for the two TBBT were new broadcasts, all in either their first or second week.  I'll take a look at the demos when they come in.

heheheheheh, it got better for TBB T.   Both shows pulled in a 1.4 demo, with 6.80 million viewers for the 8 PM show and 5.83 million for the 9 PM show.  Here's the top five, from last night, for demo and viewers:

Show                                                 Demo                             Show                                            Viewers

Grey's Anatomy                                   2.4                              Grey's Anatomy                             8.34

TBBT   (8PM)   (R)                                 1.4                              TBBT  (8 PM)  (R)                            6.80

TBBT   (9 PM)  (R)                                 1.4                              Chicago Med                                  6.75

How to Get Away with Murder          1.3                             The Blacklist                                    6.05

Chicago Med                                         1.3                             TBBT (9 PM) (R)                               5.83

On anther note, Designated Survivor, during it's premiere, brought in 7.7 million viewers in Live + 7 DVR viewing.  Breaking the record held by TBBT with 7.2 million.

I'll have a full post up this weekend or Monday, but for now, TBBT's  ad revenue, for a 30 second spot, dropped from $348,300 last year, to $289,100 this year.  This is a drop of ~$59,000 per thirty second spot and is about $650,000 less per show, and would be about $15 million less for a season of 24 new episodes.  This is still the second highest per ad cost, for an entertainment program. As I said, full post later this weekend.

So the low CPRP for TBBT makes it still a good ad buy, yes?

Week 03 Early Household Ratings and Top 25 Markets; 04 October, 2016

TBBT ran the episode last night, 10.03 The Dependence Transcendence  at 8:00 PM and it had a 9.1 Household Rating, with a  15  share (9.1/1).  Compare to last week's show of 9.2/14, this was down a tenth in Households and up a share point.

In households, number one for the night was TBBT with that 9.1/15.   In second was a two hour The Voice with a 7.9 Household and a 12 share  (up two tenths in HH, even in share). In third was Dancing with the Stars with a 7.5 Household and a 12 share (even in HH and in share).

From 8-8:30, while TBBT was on, The Voice had a 7.4 with an 11 Share, and Dancing with the Stars had a 7.3 with an 12 Share.   Those jumped to 7.9 for The Voice and 7.7 for Dancing with the Stars at 8:30, after TBBT was off.

In the top 25 markets, TBBT was number one with a 3.6 demo, second was The Voice with a 3.0 and in third was Kevin Can Wait with a 1.9

I'll get to the overnight demo and viewers when they come in.

Week 03 Overnights and Demo Breakouts for 04 October, 2016

CBS ran TBBT episode 10.03 The Dependence Transcendence.  It pulled in a 3.4 demo, with a 13 share and 14.40 million viewers.  This was down, from last weeks premiere overnight numbers, by a tenth of a point in Demo (3.6), one point in share, and up 390,000 in viewers.  I expect it to increase at least a tenth in the finals.

ETA:  While TBBT generally adjusts up, it may not this week( and possibly down).  While it wasn't on CBS nationally, the football game was on the Minneapolis CBS station, and those viewers will be removed from TBBT numbers. Normally it offsets, but we'll have to wait for the finals.

TBBT was number one in demo with that 3.4.   In second was The Voice with a 2.9/10, was down three tenths in demo and two tenths in share from last week.  In third was Kevin Can Wait with a  2.4/8, down three tenths in demo and two tenths in share from last week.     For viewers, TBBT was first with the 14.40 million viewers.  In  second was The Voice with 11.58  million viewers, up 560,000.  And in third was Dancing with the Stars, with 10.57  million viewers, down 370,000 from last weeks third place show, Kevin Can Wait

In the 18-34 demo, TBBT was in first  with a 1.9, down five tenths from last week.  In second was The Voice at 1.8, also down five tenths from last week's show.  In third was Kevin Can Wait, with a 1.3, again down five tenths from last weeks show.    In the 25-54 demo, TBBT was first with a 4.9, up a tenth. In second,  was The Voice with a 3.8, down four  tenths, and in third was Kevin Can Wait,  with a 3.5, down three tenths.

The finals will be up later, when I get them. Tensor

Week 03 Final Ratings For Tuesday, October 04, 2016.  For broadcasts, 03 October, 2016

At 8:00 PM, the new episode of TBBT, 9.03, The Dependence Transcendence, brought in a 3.5, with 14.32  million people, up a tenth  in demo, but down 80,000 viewers from the overnights. This was down a tenth and up 80,000 viewers from last week (interesting that it was down 80k from the overnights, but up 80k from last week.

In first place, for demo, was TBBT with that 3.5.  In second was The Voice at 3.0 , up a tenth from the overnights, but down two tenths in demo from last week.  In third was  the new show Kevin Can Wait, with a 2.2, down a tenth from the overnights, and down five tenths from last week.

For viewers, TBBT was number one with those 14.32 million viewers. The Voice was second with 11.78 million, up 200,000 from the overnights and up 60,000 from last week.  Dancing with the Stars was in third at 10.73 up 160,000 in viewers and up 110,000 from last week's third place show.

In the overnights, I mentioned the Football telecast in Minneapolis might cause there to be no increase, but it appears it allowed at least a tenth increase, even if the total viewers dropped off.

The Simpons probably made this list as a result of following the football recap show on Sunday.  This show led into The Simpsons with a 4.3 demo and over 5.5 million demo viewers.   Note that 60 minutes dropped off this list.  CBS has the late game next week, so we should see 60 Minutes return, and The Simpsons drop off.

           Show                                           Household Rating

  1. Judge Judy                                               7.1
  2. Family Feud                                            6.3
  3. Wheel of Fortune                                   6.0
  4. Jeopardy                                                  5.7
  5. TBBT                                                         5.1
  6. Law and Order:SVU                               3.7
  7. Entertainment Tonight                          3.4
  8. Dr Phil                                                      3.3
  9. TBBT                            Weekend            3.0
  10. Inside Edition                                          2.9

Top ten in 25-54 Women:

          Show                                             25-54 Women Rating

  1. TBBT                                                           3.1
  2. Judge Judy                                                 3.0
  3. Family Feud                                              3.0
  4. Law and Order:SVU                                 2.3
  5. Modern Family                                         2.1
  6. Wheel of Fortune                                     2.0
  7. TBBT                            Weekend              1.9
  8. Jeopardy                                                    1.8
  9. Modern Family          Weekend              1.8
  10. Access Hollywood    Weekend               1.5

Week 04 Early Household Ratings and Top 25 Markets; 11 October, 2016

TBBT ran the episode last night, 10.04 The Cohabitation Experimentation  at 8:00 PM and it had a 9.1 Household Rating, with a  14  share (9.1/14).  Compare to last week's show of 9.1/15, this was even in Households and down a share point.

In households, number one for the night was TBBT with that 9.1/14.   In second was a two hour The Voice with a 7.4 Household and a 11 share  (down four tenths in HH, down one in share). In third was Dancing with the Stars with a 7.1 Household and a 11 share (down three tenths in HH and down one in share).

From 8-8:30, while TBBT was on, The Voice had a 6.9 with an 11 Share, and Dancing with the Stars had a 6.9 with an 12 Share.   Those jumped to 7.7 for The Voice and 7.1 for Dancing with the Stars at 8:30, after TBBT was off.

ETA: Top 25 markets are not available to me today.

I'll get to the overnight demo and viewers when they come in.

Week 04 Overnights and Demo Breakouts for 11 October, 2016

CBS ran TBBT episode 10.04 The Cohabitation Experimentation.  It pulled in a 3.3 demo, with a 12 share and 14.06 million viewers, both lows for the year.  This was down, from last weeks overnight numbers, by a tenth of a point in Demo (3.4), one point in share, and down 340,000 in viewers.  I expect it to increase at least a tenth in the finals.

ETA:  There shouldn't be any adjustment due to the NFL Monday night game.  One team had the game on its ABC affiliate, the other team had it on an independent station.

TBBT was number one in demo with that 3.3.   In second was The Voice with a 2.9/9, was even in demo and down a tenth in share from last week.  In third was Kevin Can Wait  with a  2.1/7, down three tenths in demo and a tents in share from last week.     For viewers, TBBT was first with the 14.06 million viewers.  In  second was The Voice with 11.17  million viewers, down 410,000.  And in third was Dancing with the Stars, with 10.45  million viewers, down 120,000 from last week.

In the 18-34 demo, The Voice  was in first  with a 1.9, even with last week's number one show.  In second was TBBT at 1.8, also down a tenth from last week's show.  In third was Dancing With the Stars, with a 1.2, down a tenth from last weeks third place show.    In the 25-54 demo, TBBT was first with a 4.8, down a tenth. In second,  was The Voice with a 3.7, down a tenth, and in third was Kevin Can Wait,  with a 3.1, down four tenths.

The finals will be up later, when I get them. Tensor

Week 04 Final Ratings For Tuesday, October 11, 2016.  For broadcasts, 10 October, 2016

At 8:00 PM, the new episode of TBBT, 9.04, The Cohabitation Experimentation, brought in a 3.4, with 14.41  million people, up a tenth  in demo and up 350,000 viewers from the overnights. This was down a tenth and up 90,000 viewers from last week (again, a just about the same from last week when it was down a tenth and up 80,000 from the previous week).

In first place, for demo, was TBBT with that 3.4.  In second was The Voice at 2.9 , even with the overnights, but down a tenth in demo from last week.  In third was  the new show Kevin Can Wait, with a 2.1, even with the overnights, and down a tenth from last week.

For viewers, TBBT was number one with those 14.41 million viewers. The Voice was second with 11.37 million, up 200,000 from the overnights and down 410,000 from last week.  Dancing with the Stars was in third at 10.43 down 20,000 in viewers and down 300,000 from last week's third place show.

At 8:00 PM Monday,  the episode, 10.03 The Dependence Transcendence,  was broadcast.  This is the first time a scripted show has beaten Empire, in Demo, since January of 2015.  The top ten in demo follows. 8. Kevin Can Wait                                                          2.2                                         3,856,000

I made this comment last week: CBS has the late game next week, so we should see 60 Minutes return, and The Simpsons drop off.  And, lo and behold, The Simpsons didn't make the list, and 60 Minutes returns.  It should reverse again next week.
