  1. There was something wrong with Leonard wanting to hear Penny saying that she loved him? Really? I cannot begin to comprehend how this is somehow a flaw on Leonard's part. Would it have been better if he acted as though all she had said to him was "hello"? Frankly that criticism and for that matter most of the others is rediculous. I don't think that Alex falling for Leonard is going to end up with Penny and Leonard breaking up. It might be an indicator of a possible break up if Leonard returned her attraction, but he is totally clueless. He has no idea that Alex has feelings for him. I think it is more likely that Penny will get jealous, Leonard will think that she is over reacting, and then realize that she was right. I think that will be the end of it. I would be very surprised if Penny and Leonard ever break up again. There will be fights or disagreements, but I do not believe that they will actually break up.

  4. When Leonard buys the time machine and sets it for the future, and the guys all move in fast-forward around the room - that makes me LOL every single time. And when Leonard is telling Penny how he met Sheldon and flashes back to the scene where he's signing the roommate agreement, there's the clause where they agree that if either of them invent a time machine they will return to this moment in exactly five seconds. Sheldon and Leonard both look around the room for a few seconds, waiting. Sheldon: "Well that's disappointing." :D

  5. Relationship does not equal drama. I would hardly call the relationship storylines on this show as "drama" except for some LP, but even them I have a hard time labeling them as such, since the relationship stuff is played for laughs. Whether you find relationship storylines funny or not is a different story, but is not drama. Example: Bold and The Beautiful = drama (my.mom watches that) ... TBBT = comedy.

"In 2000 Pope John Paul II was made an honorary Harlem Globetrotter." "What are you talking about?" "You asked if she wanted to hear something funny" "Yes, because I have something to tell her!" "Oh... I thought it was a game..." "You two have got to be the weirdest couple I know..." "... Really? You can't think of anyone weirder???" "Oh I can... but she's sitting right there!" ---- And that's that. Happy Monday everyone. Getting to work now.

  9. Yes, the internet is full of delusional people. Penny and Sheldon only work as friends. They would never put up with each other romantically. Amy is the only one for Sheldon. Like her or hate her but she is the one for him. No one has got through to Sheldon like Amy. Leonard and Penny work and they have great chemistry. They are what the other one is missing. They were drawn to each other from the very beginning.

  14. Yes--for all the deep analysis that may or may not go on for L/P or S/A, in the end it's still a comedy--with a sweet center and a sharp edge.

  15. I agree. In fact, in all these 6 seasons, TBBT has actually had very few dead-serious dramatic moments. This show specializes in treating everything - be it work mess-ups, personality quirks, relationship problems - with a breezy light-hearted touch that takes away much of the potential angst. It's one of the things I love about the show.

  17. Most people who tune in to watch the eps don't know much about what's going to happen or which characters are going to be in an ep except for what they may have seen in the CBS promo ads, etc. Most people don't read or have access to spoilers and probably don't really keep track. So they tune in to see what's going to happen, not necessarily because they want this or that or expect a particular story line, etc. The ratings are what they are because people like the show in general and keep coming back for more. Whether they come back for relationship stuff, or humor, or individual characters/actors is hard to say. The numbers that shows like Roseanne achieved would be really hard to acquire nowadays because there is more to choose from on TV than there was in those days. I think that many people have probably stumbled across TBBT on TBS and/or their local channels (our Fox affiliate shows TBBT eps almost every night, either at 6-7pm or sometimes around 11:30pm) and then have come to check out the new eps. I remember Jim Parsons talking back in 2010 or so about how the show's ratings have kind of grown on a steady upward climb and it seems like the show's popularity spreads from word of mouth. Whatever the case, I think it's great that it just seems to be getting bigger each week without really having to pull any stunts.

  20. I don't know that she would have been upset with Leonard for talking to Alex about their relationship. I think she knows that Leonard wants her (Penny) and not Alex--it's been his mission since he met her. I think she would only be angry with Alex for her response to him--flirting instead of helping. When she first saw Alex with Leonard she didn't get mad at Leonard for talking with Alex or laughing with Alex. She got territorial with Alex and wanted to make it clear that she (Penny) and Leonard were involved.

  21. lol I remember who she was but I never watched the show, I wasn't into teen shows yet at that age, still on cartoons. lol. But then again my "teen show" was the X-Files so I never really was into this kind of shows.

  22. I think the difference was that Leonard is still clueless that Alex is crushing on him while Penny knows exactly what is going on with Alex and the problem Leonard is having with her friend. But I do agree there has always been a double standard between Leonard and Penny through the show. I am hoping they are going to use Alex to make that double standard clear to Penny.
    1 point
  23. So I just went back and watched season 6 episode 3 again and seem to noticing some double standards here. Let's compare. Penny sees Alex talking to Leonard, interprets it as flirting and confronts her about it saying "not everyone gets to work with him" and everything is fine and dandy Leonard sees Cole and thinks hes flirting with penny so he confronts him and penny gets pissed? I mean sure Leonard did it in his own geeky way but the thought process behind both were the same? Why is one okay but the other not?

  24. Very good synopsis on how the writers screw with the L/P relationship for laughs. It also left me cold when Sheldon was suppose to be teaching Penny physics while he only taught her to mock Leonard's work and she didn't understand what she did. Then you are right, they just leave the story there, sort of like they did in the last episode with the ILY and then the had to throw a laugh in at the immediate end with the Alex email, which sort of ruined the ending scene.
    1 point
  25. First of all I'm a big L\P fan. But still I feel that their relationship was not dealt properly in season 3. The focus that Sheldon's character got was so heavy that I felt the other characters and their story lines were mostly either wasted or incomplete. Let me give an example In the episode where Sheldon teaches Penny Physics - The main goal of Penny was to impress Leonard (very nice story idea) - So she asks Sheldon to teach her Physics which he does - But in the ending scene where she tells the big Physics dialogue it looked like she was trying to mock him rather than trying to impress him. - It looked like Sheldon and Penny won the match , but the problem was that Leonard did not know what was going on , he was not playing the match - A good ending would have been Leonard recognizing the fact that his girlfriend tried to learn Physics for him and appreciating it. ( this was what I was expecting at the start of the episode ) - But the writers were like--who cares about all that, see Sheldon is so funny , see Sheldon is so funny So as a result the goal that was set at the start was not accomplished. The episode was very funny but still it felt incomplete to me What actually baffles me was that the same writes were able to focus on all the characters previously because a similar kind of storyline was done previously in season 1 - Leonard's birthday episode - Penny wanting to do something nice to Leonard, S\P plot , L\H plot But the difference was that sweetness was delivered at the end the episode . So as a result that episode felt complete as all the goals were accomplished Another example : final episode of Season 3 - In the opening scenes Leonard was good to Penny and tried to be good to Zach - Later that night Penny comes to Leonard which he assumed that they were back-together again - After she tells him that it was a mistake , he gets upset and goes to her the next night....she shoves him away.... I mean really ???? How many times have we seen the writers make Penny shower her care and sympathy for Sheldon , this was the time they made her show some towards Leonard (she should have known the reason he was acting like that, she should've known that it was her fault) I agree that writing seasons upon seasons for a couple is hard, but when you write a story specific to them they should be able to make it as complete as possible Anyways Past is Past , So lets just hope that the ILY will remove all the insecurities of Leonard

  29. wow, I didn't realize there was so much negativity about this couple. To be honest, I think it isn't easy to write seasons upon seasons of a couple and still keep them interesting, it's really hard, we should cut the writers some slack. Personally, I don't feel like their on-off thing is completely out of context for the premise of this show, which was after all to have the two nerds and the regular girl across the hall come into each others' lives and, essentially, learn from each other. So on one hand you have Leonard get the "girl of dreams", with all that comes with it, and on the other hand you have Penny being the relatively shallow simpleton who falls for the geek and has to grow as a character because of it. I think it's perfectly in tune with what the show is about, I do not think it "ruined" it at all. Yes, of course writers can make some bad choices here and there in terms of storytelling, but overall I think these characters are being analyzed way too much, like Leonard were a real guy who needs to "grow a pair" and dump her: even if he were a real guy, I'm sure everyone has had a friend like him. There might be some potential in Penny that we still haven't seen and that the writers will bring out at some point, and that's the whole point of their story: if they had brought out that potential in Penny already there would be no story to tell. I have faith in these two. edit: You cannot cut Penny from the show! that's the whole point of the show! I know some keep complaining about how it should just be a show about a bunch of nerds making nerds jokes, but I think that is not what the writers intended this show to be, ever. As I said, the whole premise is the two nerds and the regular girl and their worlds clashing and mingling and changing because of each other. The nerdy science jokes are great, and as a science nerd I love them and can never get enough of it, but that is not what the show is solely about.

  30. San Diego Comic Con was the greatest 4 days of this year for me. It was my first time going and it was absolute nerd heaven. I had a very successful first time because I did research on how long everything takes, when to line up for things, and just general tips and tricks from people who have been before and I saw EVERYTHING I wanted to see, and more. I also waited until Saturday to do my shopping like most people suggested and I got everything I wanted at discounted prices (Sunday is even cheaper but things are also sold out on Sunday). I dressed up as a stormtrooper on one of the days and it was a lot of fun as well.

  32. Speaking of watching a different show, there was this nugget in that mess of thread that Slick linked to: "This could have been a golden show but for a mystery reason they don't want characters to elvove. They are stuck. S Yeah, cause I just wish something would have changed since the first season. Maybe they could bring Raj's sister back (what was her name?), for I don't know, a love interest for Leonard. Except Raj would probably forboded....fobadded....forbooded... stopped it. This would make Penny realize she shouldn't have broken up with Leonard. Oh, wait, they would have to start dating first. Or, what could really shake things up, how about the writers find a girlfriend for Sheldon. Nah, that would never happen. The writers are too lazy and besides, Sheldon has Penny, right? Here's a good one, how about that sleaze-ball Howard find a girlfriend, propose, and get married? What am I saying, who would ever put up with his creepy candy coating? Well, I can see why they may not want the characters to evolve, it's obvious they don't want to work at it or they are just too lazy.

  46. I totaly agree with BangerMain's analysis. Also, regarding Penny talking behind Leonars's back. What group of friends, women or men, do not seek help with the people closest to them whether it be friends or family members when they are trying to come to terms with an important issue in their lives. They even talk about their significant other when there isn't anything wrong. As for the remark about his really trying in bed, that was just an oppurtunity for the writers to get in a cheep joke into the conversation and nothing more. I think the writers are handling Penny's issues one by one and so far are doing a good job on each issue with more to follow.

  48. 1. Sheldon - I love all the characters even the annoying ones, but for me this is "The Sheldon Show" He just rocks my world! 2. Amy - Amy has really impressed me I see why Mayim got an Emmy nom she has become second funniest character on the show and actually can hold her own with Shellybean. SHAMY RULES!! 3. Howard is tied with Leonard for third right now 4. Rajesh - he really needs more going on so he can move up to being tied with Howard and Leonard. 5. Bernadette- she just moved up one over Penny who is annoying me right now. 6. Penny- She use to be tied up there with Leonard and Howard, but lately she keeps on moving down the list. The writers need to fix her character before she becomes totally unlikeable and annoying, especially towards Leonard. I trust they will soon and then she may move back up the list. 7. Stuart -he might pass Penny too soon if she doesn't get her acting togetherthat he's hanging out with Raj more and getting more story. 8. Sheldon's mom Mary Cooper - I love her character want to see more of her this season. 9. Penny's dad - I liked him a lot even though he was only in one episode so far he left an impression and I want to see him again on show, maybe he can explain better why his daughter is so lame and perhaps fix the locust of her identity so she can be less pathetic. 10. Mrs. Wolowitz - i don't need to see her physically, but I do find her funny sometimes, though at times she's annoying too. Just depends on the episode. 11. Leonard's mom - She's mean, and crazy like Sheldon, but not at all endearing or sweetly childish like he is so she's my third favorite mom on the show. Still I'd like to see more of her cause i think her character is really interesting and funny. 12. Raj's parents - both are overbearing and very funny andI like to see them come to America for an episode and get into with Mrs. Wolowitz or Sheldon lol 13. Kripke, he's annoying and mean, but he's funny and his voice cracks me up. Plus i love it when he and Sheldon go toe to toe or bond or just whatever they do together its interesting so yeah lets bring back Kripke. Also Leslie Winkle loved to hate her too. 14. Will Wheaton - I loves to hate him at first, but then they made him Sheldon's friend which was also sweet, but now I want him to come back and be a douche again cause he's funnier as a douche than as Mr. nice guy, but at same time I'd like to see him be sort of frenemies with Sheldon too. 15. Zack- he was the adorably dumb guy you just love to laugh at, but at same time he was kind of sw.eet. I almost wish they made Zack take a class at the university so he could hang out in cafeteria with the guys. 16. Bernadette's dad - he was funny too and I like how he gives Howard a hard time. 17. Dale - BRING HIM BACK! He only was in one scene and yet he left an impression and came off adorable and funny. I want to see him again in the comic book store. 18. All the nice funny girlfriend characters they guys have dated over the years from Abby, to Stephanie, to Martha, to Whore of Omaha, Elizabeth Plimpton, Mrs. LAtham etc.. they all brought something funny to show and I rewatch the episodes they were in a lot. 19. All the other nerd guy characters like Lonely Larry, Captain sweatpants, Todd Zarnecki etc... we don't see them much and they dont' say much, but they add their own charm to the show. 20. All the other even smaller supporting roles on one time guests that had funny lines and made me laugh at some point in their brief time on the show, but i can't remember their names. and finally my least favorite BBT character is still Priya, that very pretty, but totally unfunny ,cheating skank who used Leonard, almost ruined his friendship with Sheldon and treated Rajesh her very own brother like crap by having sex with his friend in his bed and stepping on his toes and just being an all round two-faced Bitch! And now only good thing her prescence did for the show which was to help Penny realize how much she wanted Leonard for herself has now been ruined because now that Priya's gone Penny is still on the fence about him. So really what little good Priya did for the show is now a Bust all over again. SHAMEFUL! I hope she stays in India and never returns unless its just so Penny, Amy and Bernadette can throw her down all four flights of stairs and kick the crap out of her.
