Hi guys, there seem to be no details about the thanksgiving taping, so I’ll fill you in a little. Sorry for not posting earlier. This was due to travelling and illness. To start with I was surprised that everything that had been taped, had already been broadcast. So we got to see 1209 which had already aired before the taping. 1210 is a direct continuation of 1209 “The Citation Negation”. I’ll give you the name of the episode when I am home and have dug out the little program of the show. There are lots of guest stars: Iain Armitage, Lance Barber, Montana Jordon and Christine Baranski. I almost screamed when I read this so my excitement was huge 😊. Sheldon is still upset about the Russian Paper so Amy goes over to Lenny to find out if there is anything she can do that she hasn’t tried yet to cheer him up. Leonard suggests tea but Amy tells him that Sheldon now questions everything and has renamed tea into “leaf soup” 😉 So Leonard gives Amy an old video cassette and VCR with a recording Sheldon had apparently made as a child for himself for an emergency like this. We get to see the first minutes of the tape (Iain speaks) but then the tape changes to a football match his father had taped so the original footage is gone. Sheldon is devastated. Leonard’s mother is video chatted for advice. While Sheldon is in the bedroom Amy continues to watch the video. After a while Sheldon comes out and asks “why are you watching this”? Amy explains that she hoped that there is something left of the recording. It is then when we get to see Lance Barber talking to his football team including Montana. The team had lost horribly so Lance explains that you actually learn more from mistakes than from success (this is actually very sweet). Both Amy and Sheldon are surprised to see his dad on tape. Then Amy begins thinking that they have made a mistake and that the Russian paper could be right but that there are more sides to super asymmetry (sorry, I can’t remember the exact wording). So in the end they are both back on track. There is a little side story where Howard plays “the great Howdini” which is quite funny. I liked this episode a lot because of its depth and the character development. It is also beautifully written and the video tape is an excellent means to bring in the Young Sheldon characters. If you have any questions please ask, I’ll try to answer them.

I've been rather rare around here for the last month or two (I usually helicopter in a few times a day to check on the place). We finally got all our damaged fixed (a year after the storm), and are doing some other upgrades to the house. I had the house re-stuccoed, and I'm in the middle of painting it, , replacing some carpeting with tile, and we have new doors. Also, some electrical work done, and I am adding ethernet throughout the house. The doors and the electrical work I had people come in to do it. The painting, tiling, and ethernet I'm doing myself. Along with this, we had to had to replace several large appliances. I love that my TV died on Friday, Black Friday. So I was able to get a pretty great Sony (65" XBR900F) for 900 less than the average price I found on the internet, prior to Black Friday. With all of that, I'm also working on some data analysis ( a part time job) and a fan fic, (It's a Lenny story) and I'm at chapter 42 so most of the time I'm on the computer, I'm either writing or tweaking some program parameters for the analysis. I bring all this up to give you the reason I have not been doing the schedule, or the ratings (although I've been doing Season 12 character times, just not putting it up yet). I'm hoping to have all the work on the house done in the next couple of weeks and the data analysis has to be done by the 9th. I will try to catch up on everything over the holidays, and early January. Although I'm looking at trying to get some tickets for a taping in January. So, please accept my apologies for not being able to keep up with those things so far this year.

For me, my view is that after breaking up with Leonard, Penny ran away from the world of relationships. The last thing she wanted was anything serious. She fell back into what she was familiar with. Also someone who was very unlike Leonard (the love of her life, even then. She was just unable to give voice to those feelings, to admit it to Leonard and to admit it to herself). Luckily, Zach was a kinder, gentler version of the "type" that she usually went for.

I’m sorry if Penny had dated anyone seriously. It would of undermined the whole purpose of Leonard and Penny. It’s fine seeing Leonard have a serious relationship with Priya. But I’m sorry it would not work the same with Penny. I beleive this was deliberate from the writers. Penny doesent do serious. She wasent ready for a long term commitment with Leonard. So their break up was purposely done to give the character space. And drag it out over more profitable seasons. I’m sorry I’m glad Penny was not like Jackie in That 70s show. It’s like if Amy had a serious boyfriend. Lenny and Shamy are special.

I think she already knew that (she actually says this in the video in "The Bitcoin Entanglement"), but this showed her how painful it would be for her to see Leonard moving on. She did not break up with him because she wanted to be broken up with him, she had her issues, that rised because she knew he was a great guy, and she thought she was doing what was good for him.

Thank you very much @Silver1984!!! I hope you're feeling better. Sounds like a good one for Sheldon and Amy. What Amy says IRL would be a reaction that would come much much earlier, but, as opposed to their other ridiculous inaccuracies re the academic world, this one, to me, is forgiveable. I still think the whole tape thing is completely unnecessary. #lettbbtbe Nice that Baranski got a little guest appearance in the last season. I suspect they did want Metcalf but she was unavailable, I hope they'll get her in later. Another Shamy centered episode with a dash of Howard/Howardette. Well, at least it doesn't seem to be bad for Lenny, so I guess that's something... Actually it could have made the point better if Penny had a relationship that had potential, and still wanted Leonard and was jealous of Priya. But again, I think Penny only on-and-off, sorta-kinda dating Zach could be seen as Penny not really moving on. To be fair, that joke does not fit the story as it is, but that doesn't bother the writers. I don't think Penny having dated a guy with "status" would have prevented them from making that joke.

Probably not sarcasm. I've seen parts of several different Friends episodes , but I haven't seen a full episode ever. I don't intentionally look for it now, and if I come across it while flipping through the channels, I keep flipping. From the parts I've seen, it doesn't do anything for me, but like Capt Hilts, I hear it's pretty good, from others.

Jmo but i think the writers are more interested in having more ys stories than they are concerned about how it affects tbbt Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

Thank you so much @Silver1984! It seems you liked the episode very much, happy you had such a good time! I'm very happy too that Shamy collaboration is not over, the episode sounds very good to me!

I think there was quite abit that Raj held back from Leonard He did not let Leonard know about her feelings. He did not tell Leonard that Priya was going back to India. He still got in bed with Penny knowing that she really loved Leonard. He did not want anyone to know of his premature embarrassment but yet bragged to all how he bedded Penny. These factors surely do not show him as a good friend

If Penny would have dated “quality guys” during the time she was broken up with Leonard they would have just been a copy of Ross and Rachel from Friends.

Really? This is what they want to hook viewers with into 2019? VCR Illumination sounds like a stale note to leave 2018 on, neither plot seems like it will progress anything Did they only get rid of Super Asymmetry so they could have some filler plots about Sheldon moping and then strengthening his resolve? Howardette magic is fine for a mid-season subplot....but as the only episode in a 7 week period uhhhh Happy Holidays?

We are definitely at an impasse. But, you're not the only one.
  20. 2 points
i see we are at an impasse i mean people take different things from the show in different ways i guess
  21. 2 points
Totally agree. The writers don't care about the impact that "ys" has on TBBT. as long as that other show looks good!
  22. 2 points
It took a drunk Penny to admit out loud. I don't remember Raj being a good friend and letting Leonard know Penny's feelings.
  23. 2 points
By Leonard moving on Penny realized what a great guy he was and that she might have made a mistake in breaking up with him. Eventually all worked out.
  24. 2 points
As usual I'm in complete agreement. You just stated better than I could! I guess we can thank our lucky stars that the writers spared Lenny from arguing and being snippy toward each other!
  25. 2 points
The reason they didn't give Penny a prestigous partner during their time apart as they did Leonard was it would of affected what they where trying to portray. They wanted to Show Penny upset and jealous whilst he dated Priya to show that Leonard meant alot more to her than she was willing to reveal. Had she been dating a professional athelete at the time she wouldn't have been concerned about who Leonard was dating, besides how on earth would Penny meet such a guy?. The whole point of the Priya relationship with Leonard was to show that Penny was not over Leonard culminating in the revelation to Raj that she had screwed up and never should of broken up with him. Had she had been dating a guy like you suggest that had little chance of that ever being revealed.

I get your point, and I'm not saying what they did was necessarily better. What I meant was maybe being with someone with more potential would be more serious in her eyes and that would bring up her fears or the feeling of replacing Leonard that maybe she didn't want to feel. Zach was more of an escape, like being with somebody without really being with somebody. I do think that it was nice to see that Leonard was the one who was able to move on faster than Penny (in fact she never really did), showing he's not so lame and desperate for Penny.
  27. 2 points
That's it, really. Raj needs someone to tell him what to do. He always has.

I like the actress, but I feel right now the chemistry between her and Kunal is not good enough. Maybe it will get better.

I'm not sure he cared more for Georgie, just that he knew better what to do with him. Sheldon was perhaps the bigger worry. George Snr at least superficially was able to respond more positively to Georgie when they were on the same wavelength but he still made efforts with Sheldon. In any family, different children make different demands. If parents get a child who's nothing like anybody they've encountered before,it might be harder to know what to do but it doesn't mean they care for that child less than for the others.

Yeah i agree i mean R and R is one of my all time fav sitcom couples, and Friends is my fav sitcom of all time (Although I appreciate the show is not to everyones taste). But if they had Penny like Rachel did with Tag, Joshua, Mark etc. Date "Quailty Guys". It woul imo diminish the uniqueness of Lenny. Leonard is the one guy, whos different to the rest for her. Its like in S2 The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis. When Penny fully embraced the guys. And truly started to love Leonard. David Underhill who was a quality guy. Ended up being a jerk. That is prob what made the Leonard Mandy angle so bad. As for the YS crossover. Yeah i feared this. A poorly thought out video tape plot. Which seems to tie in with the super asymetry plot. Hacked together and misjointed. Thats the best they can come up with? A VCR illiumnation Tape to encourage a mopy Sheldon. To strengthn his beleif in himself, how bold. Least Christine Baranski is returning.

I see it completely different. George Sr cared for George Jr more since he acted more like him.

Still his dad he says while he might not have been a great person i think he still cared for him and i think some of the lines throughout the years have hinted that sheldon did like the time they spent together even though it was a means to end to get to do his homework aka watching football those are still bonding moments in life like when his mother said his father always told her you have to be slow with sheldon that hints that maybe his father was more the sympathetic person to who sheldon was even if it was in his early years until his mom caught on

Again, not "serious," but a date with a guy having "status." Had she dumped a major league baseball player to be with Leonard, then the "she settled for him" jokes would not work. She would meet such a guy at the cheesecake factory, the gym, whatever. I see all sorts of celebrities [political, news] at a dodgy diner by my house. A sports/news broadcaster. She's always depicted as the sportsfan on the show. Penny is supposed to be the "hot" girl, but she was only shown dating brawny knuckle-draggers. She's cute and funny and would have been able to attract a better class of guy. The exception was seeing that physicist who was a complete cad. Leonard was supposed to be the one who had difficulty with women, yet women threw themselves at him. As depicted on the show, their experiences dating others was the opposite of the premise of the show.

Sheldon could have ignored Howard which would have driven Howard crazy. But no, the writers probably didn't find that funny enough!

maybe this is what is going on for me the chemistry between them, i don't know everyone is different i guess and they have different views of the world so some may like Anu and some may not like me i just think its an odd choice but happy to see where it goes if it means we get new episodes and as long as its funny i am in such a great show and we will all be poorer when its gone next year *edit* after some thinking i almost think the actress who plays Priya would have been perfect for Raj but she was cast so close to the start as his sister and had so many story lines it wouldnt happen and obviously they have chosen the actress now but at least you can kinda see where i was going with my OP

am i the only one who doesn't like the actress choice for anu when i think of Raj marrying a lady she is nothing like what i had pictured nor what Raj had described previously ( ok he described basically sandra bullock lol ) but still not what i had imagined i kinda liked his other " setup wife" his parents got him earlier on that pairing made more sense to me the one who was a lesbian i think she would have made a great choice for the role in season 12 had she not got the role earlier im not sure if its a new role effect where something disrupts the normal show and you instantly dislike it until you get used to it but iv tried over the last 9 episodes to adjust to her and i am finding it very hard, maybe as we get closer to the end i'll warm up to her but right now she rubs me the wrong way whenever she is on screen

The thing is, this explanation works for some of Sheldon's memories, but not for all of them. He recalled his father being too drunk to drive and having his brother (I think at 10?) drive instead of him. That doesn't fit YS George Sr. He recalled his father having a girlfriend who his mother met, that could still happen but it doesn't seem to fit George Sr. from YS. He remembers hhis father making him watch football since he was very young, yet this doesn't seem to happen, at least not as a regular thing, on YS. Mary herself, on TBBT, talked about George Sr. as a stupid drunk, in a way that seem to support Sheldon's ideas of him, yet YS's George Sr. does not fit that description.

...and on: This, I think, fits in well with this remarkable excerpt from an article on this website. The Big Bang Theory: 20 Weird Fan Theories (That Make Too Much Sense) screenrant.com "One of the series' biggest unsolved mysteries is undoubtedly Penny's last name, which has become a hot discussion topic for fans. While she is now sometimes called Penny Hofstadter, fans can only guess what her maiden name is. In a forum discussion on The Big Bang Theory Fan Site, multiple ideas, some more humorous than others, can be found on the subject, ranging from “Lane” to “Jones.”
