  1. Okay but who are these critics exactly? Because every single reviewer for the show I follow has their head so far up Shamy's ass they're almost bigger shippers than we are. (Almost only, because, come on :P) Like, I even have a whole tag on my blog dedicated to the A.V. Club reviewer's boner for Shamy, Amy, and Mayim. The only reviewer I can think of who doesn't like Shamy is the IGN guy. So, okay. You got one critic that likes the "early stuff" of the show better, whatever the hell that means (more on that later). And since you seem so keen on reminding us of Jim's Emmy wins, this is your friendly reminder that three out of his four Emmys were both from season 4 onwards and from Shamy heavy episodes (S4, S6 and S7 wins. Funny how he didn't win in S5, when the episode he submitted had very little Shamy LMAO.) For real, I ain't saying the Academy has a Shamy boner too, but, well, I kinda am saying the Academy has a Shamy boner. As for "the general public..." Don't kid yourself - the Internet hates The Big Bang Theory. The reason most often cited? Its sexism, most notably the fact that Penny was the only woman of the show, and she was a dumb one, at that. Things that DING DING DING were resolved when Amy and Bernadette came on the show. Also, as I said, I think I'd like to have an answer to what the actual hell you call "the early years" exactly because season 1 was a goddamn mess. It only had 17 episodes, characterization was all over the place, and number of the iconic lines of the show comes from season 2. Season 1 was hardly The Big Bang Theory. And Melissa Rauch came onto the show on like the fifth episode of the third season. Like y'all are literally clinging to ONE SEASON AND FIVE EPISODES. That's what you're talking about when you say "the early years." Thirteen goddamn months. That's honestly hilarious. Finally, the idea that Penny and Sheldon are best friends is misguided. They're reluctant friends. If you don't believe me, watch The Intimacy Acceleration, a whole episode based on the premise that Penny knows so little about who Sheldon really is, about his secrets and his intimate thoughts, that she literally JUMPS on the one chance she has to ask Sheldon questions he HAS to answer. Like, I'm not making this shit up. You can't make this shit up. Penny: What? You’re okay with an experiment where you have to answer awkward questions about your innermost feelings? Sheldon: Yes. Penny: Please, can I do it with him? Please? Leonard: I’ve been listening to Sheldon’s feelings on things for ten years. Tag, you’re it. My homegirl is literally like "Leonard pleaaase let me uncover some dirt on Sheldon, the asshole won't tell me shit," to which Leonard answers "Fucking finally, I honestly was getting tired of the goddamn crazy!" At this point, Sheldon cares for Penny the exact same way he cares about Howard - no respect for who she is as a person, and a begrudging friendship born from being in the same social circle for years. Not to say that he doesn't love them - he does, he even said so to Penny - but these feelings were born from being forced to spend all these years together, not from a genuine connection.
  2. Tell that to Mayim, Kaley and Simon's Critics Choice Awards. Shennyland, that place where reality keeps eluding you no matter the topic.
  3. Except that Meemaw was kinda of a b-word??? I mean I get that she looks out for Sheldon, and that's sweet of her, and I could have gotten her being a bit cold towards Amy, but going as far as insulting her was just over the line. Amy had her reasons for breaking up with Sheldon, and they were not all invalid. Meemaw doesn't know anything about their relationship other than what Sheldon wants to tell her, which, for all we know, might very well be biased. Saying "She broke up with me" is one thing Sheldon will definitely tell his grandmother — saying "She broke up with me because I was rude to her in front of our friends" is not something I'd see him readily admit. Amy had her own reasons to break up with Sheldon, and Meemaw had no right to be all up in her face about it. It was rude and inconsiderate, and even condescending towards her grandson (Sheldon wanted to be back together with her, and Meemaw's disapproval of Amy is also Meemaw's doubting her Moonpie's judgement). Amy had every right to defend herself, and I'm glad she did. Gone is the time when she let others' perception of her relationship cloud her own appreciation of it (e.g. in The Love Spell Potential). I'm glad that Amy knows what she and Sheldon have is real and concerns only the two of them. That's why I'm not happy about the ring thing. Not because it puts Amy in a situation of waiting - I think it was the next logical step anyway and she's always been kinda waiting for marriage - but because it put Sheldon in a situation where he no longer has control over it. It was his decision to choose how and when he would tell Amy he had a ring, and Meemaw robbed him off that.
  4. Thanks for sharing, Rachel! "showing affection" omg baby :(( I wasn't trying to say that I'm better because I've been watching the show longer, this is ridiculous. I was by no means amongst the first fans of the show, that would be truly rich for me to act like I was. I was just saying that most of the people who are fed up right now have been watching the show for a longer time, and people who are newer to the fandom and happy about the show should remember that this exhaustion isn't just us being upset over four episodes, which seems to be the thing that gets thrown in our faces every time we get upset. There are also newer fans that are upset, and older fans that aren't. Nowhere in my post was I implying that all the new fans are unicorns and all the old fans are gothic bats, and I certainly am not hipster enough to pull the "I was there first therefore I'm right" card. Loving the double standard tho - wanting to quit over The Intimacy Acceleration was perfectly reasonable, but being upset over years of mess isn't... okaaaaaaaaay. Whatever. Just going to log off for another couple of months until Shamy gets better (or not. Who knows.)
  5. I've been agreeing a lot with you lately, but this isn't one of those times. Saying Sheldon will never be able to show her he desires her is just wrong. I think, in his own way, he already has. I mean, we've all seen him leaning back in for more kissing. We know he's pestering her about children. He calls her a vixen, a hotsy totsy. He literally told her she was so hot he had a panic attack. I think Sheldon is trying to show her. The problem is that Amy isn't understanding the message. She focuses on Sheldon talking about the Flash rather than Sheldon wanting to kiss her. Amy wanting Sheldon to be more traditionally lovey dovey would be perhaps her asking him to be something he is not, but Amy wanting Sheldon to tell her he wants her wouldn't, imho. Now, as I was saying to the girls this morning, I'm very cautious about how that will happen. I hope Shamy won't have sex for at least six months after they get back together, because it would leave a weird taste in my mouth, kinda like Sheldon only makes love to her so she doesn't leave him again. We need to see them enjoy each other's company again before Sheldon (it has to come from Sheldon) tells her he's ready. Otherwise it'll just look like a desperate way to keep her forever, which is absolutely unhealthy.
  6. Well I don't think it comes from Amy not feeling too attractive. This is a fanfic trope I want to see die with fire because Amy thinks she's smoaking hot. But Amy is a virgin in her first romantic relationship, so of course, she's unsure what the protocol is in these kind of relationships. And, people tend to forget it because she's often written as the straight man in her relationship with Sheldon, but she is like him and she can't read a room or people. I mean, Amy is the person who tried to console Bernadette by asking her if she wanted to have sex with her cousin to get back at Howard. Amy can't read people, so chances are she doesn't understand that Sheldon leaning in for another kiss means he desires her. But I'm with you on Penny's involvement. My dream resolution for the 8x24 mess always involved Penny. I wanted her to sit Amy down and tell her that when a guy kisses you like Sheldon kisses her, with his hands on your thigh and/or hips, it means he wants you bad. I wanted her to sit Sheldon down and tell him that Amy needs to be reassured, because as things currently stand, she's not sure if Sheldon enjoys making out with her and she's worried he's only doing it to make her happy, which is just heartbreakingly sad. I wanted Penny to keep on being Shamy's #1 fangirl, I wanted her to lock them in a closet and force them to just TALK about sex, "because honestly you two will debate for hours about what kind of tea is better but you won't just flat out ask or tell the other where you're standing on regarding sex." But instead we got a Penny that made a mess by telling Sheldon Amy thinks he's a bad boyfriend (and I truly belive/hope this was Penny just rephrasing things), and a Penny that tries to convince Amy her life is ahead of her now. I just hate this.
  7. The only thing Shamy never communicate about is physical intimacy, I agree. Which is why when people say this break up isn't about sex, I just don't understand. Because Shamy talks about everything else. They even sat down and debated what kind of pet they should adopt. They agreed to try to move to Mars together. Their first ILYs came from a mature, adult conversation. But Amy won't flat out ask Sheldon if he desires her. She just implies things. And Sheldon won't tell her if he's not asked, that's just not how Sheldon works. Which brings us back to the fact that as long as we won't know what Amy is expecting out of this break up, it won't be resolved neatly. Amy needs to spell it out, and Sheldon needs to be here to hear it. Otherwise, we're back at square one of Amy implying things and things flying well over Sheldon's head. Poor guy doesn't understand sarcasm - do you really think he can understand thinly veiled come hither looks?
  8. Yeah... no. The writers have clearly laid out that these were the problems in the Lenny relationship, but they were never resolved properly. Ever. Having sex on a pile of money isn't resolving the issue. Their sex organs didn't magically make the money disappear. Leonard being manipulated into agreeing Penny should audition for a movie isn't healthy. Leonard's cheating came out of nowhere and the way it was resolved put half the blame on Penny which is just literally mind-numbingly dumb. The idea that Lenny are the kind of relationship Shamy should aspire to be is ridiculous. If you want to see couple problems that were resolved properly, I can direct you to the whole of Season 5 where Howardette tackled every single one of their problems one by one... or Season 8 where Shamy did the exact same thing.
  9. It can't be determined that she doesn't love him like he does her, but it also can't be determined that she does, because four episodes in, all we know on Amy's side of the story is that she doesn't want to tell people they broke up. Which, sure, could be interpreted as her being in her own brand of denial about it, but could also be her not wanting to go back to "Sad Amy who will die alone" in the eye of her facebook friends and family members. At this point, both these theories are valid because the writers won't tell us what the hell is going on in her mind. And sure, they could do that next week, but if history is any indication, they won't. Amy's there to prop Sheldon up. That's all she's worth in the writers' minds. Betting that when Sheldon and Amy get back together, we still won't know what the hell is going on in her mind.
  10. The more they show Sheldon broken-hearted, the hardest the make up will be. I feel like Sheldon is burnt so badly right now, he's going to take such a long time to trust her again. It's gonna be months of him saying yes to everything because he's scared that if he doesn't, she's going to leave him again. How this can be seen as "growth" is beyond me. It's the literal opposite of growth. Even what's happening now isn't growth: Sheldon wishing he was back to being a robot isn't growth, it's literal regression. Four episodes in, I still fail to understand what the hell is the point of that break up.
  11. Well "people who are going on and on" are clearly me, since I did, but to be fair, I DID read it. I wasn't sure how I can have misunderstood something like that, and turns out I didn't: someone who was being a spokesperson for you guys told us about the couch (confirmed here) Clarifying that just so I don't get accused of putting words in other people's mouths because I'm mean or something.
  12. I clearly remember people saying they were on the couch and Penny was straddling Sheldon... who the hell started that rumor??????? I've been worried about a nonsensical sexual assault dream for three weeks?? WHAT IN THE WORLD THIS IS TOO MUCH I'M LAUGHING SO HARD
  13. I'm honestly confused??? if this is the real footage they're gonna be using it makes even less sense than the couch scene because Penny clearly isn't enjoying it. Leonard is so guilty about kissing another woman he dreams about his best friend sexually assaulting his wife? What the hell kinda fucked up dream is this???
  14. There's a difference between telling people how to feel (which you and some others are the champions of, don't even try to deny it - and yes these "some others" also include Tensor, so honestly, seeing two people who do that on an almost daily basis arguing that they don't is hella rich), and telling people that maybe they need to realize no one cares about their ongoing feud and their pathological need to always have the last word. I'm not telling you to stop arguing about it - I'm telling you to stop being selfish and hijacking a post that is meant to be for everyone, not just three people with a compulsive need for pointless arguments. But hey, nice false equivalency. ;D
  15. And the discussion going on right now has literally nothing to do with Season 9. If you really can't shut up on the topic, take it to Private Messages. I can't believe this has to be spelt out, jeez.
  16. Whether taping is today or tomorrow, this is a goddamn SPOILER thread. I want to see set pictures and "omg what can Penny's hairclip mean!!!!" speculations, not two people going back and forth on whether or not their feelings are valid. (Here's a hint tho: feelings are personal and no one has to explain theirs to anyone. For example, if I feel like you're being a real pain the bottom right now, I don't have to explain it to you. Although, if you really want to know, it's because I really have a goddamn problem with people telling others how they should feel.)
  17. *opens thread* *reads* *facepalms* Maybe you should stop arguing over something as goddamn personal as feelings, and let this thread be about, oh, I don't know, actual spoilers? It's especially annoying on a taping day when all people want to see in here are spoilers.
  18. This is pretty much all we have on Amy's mother (missing a few lines of course, gifsets can only have ten gifs.) So like koops said, she sounds more like an overbearing, overprotective mom than a cruel harpy who thinks her daughter isn't good enough. She wants to see Amy happy (she paid her cousin so he could take her to Prom), and she's obviously proud of her daughter. She seems like a lovely lady.
  19. One mention of the ring and I swear to god tears came to my eyes. Might just be the onion I've been chopping, to be fair, but somehow I doubt it.
  20. "I haven't been reading the thread so I don't know that everyone right now is actually discussing nicely about Shamy's future and fangirling about how sweet the engagement is going to be, no matter how long this break up drags on, but let me be hella condescending because I saw the premiere and you didn't." Alright then.
  21. Agreed. This dream is in no way a ~deeper exploration~ of what a sexual Sheldon could be because it's not Sheldon's dream. It's Leonard's. It doesn't mean anything for Sheldon. And it's not even the real Sheldon, so you can't even pretend it's just the writers putting the idea that Sheldon is horny as hell into the general audience's mind. People are not gonna thing that. They're just not, just like no one has ever thought that Leonard's dream of Sheldon eating too much Thai food and splitting into two Sheldons was an indication that one day, there would be two Sheldons roaming the streets of Pasadena. (Well, one could argue that Amy is that second Sheldon, but you get what I'm saying.) This whole cold open mess is just that: a mess. A mess that has no other goal than to shock, and I'm not even sure why, because ratings for the show are still high. I'm guessing the lack of Emmy nomination for the show this year is driving the writers mad and they think they need to write CBS's version of Game of Thrones to be relevant again with the Academy. That's pretty much the only way this whole mess makes sense. Be prepared to see Emily finally sew some limbs next week...
  22. I take offense at the idea that this Shenny make out is the hottest kiss Sheldon has ever shared with anyone. It's not gonna be hot. It's gonna be cheesy, like coming straight from the cover of a romance novel. It's going to be so obviously fake, because it's so obviously not going to be Penny, who is way too boyish to ever be able to pull off the Romance Novel Heroine thing, and it's definitely not going to be Sheldon who is... well, too Sheldon to pull off the Romance Novel Hero thing. Just like the dream sequence from The Cooper Extraction looked like it was taken straight out of a porn movie and painted Penny as someone she isn't, this cold open is going to be so obviously NOT Sheldon and Penny. I don't care how much tongue there is or how hard Penny is setting on Sheldon's crotch, it's not going to be as hot as Amy twirling her hair around her finger, leaning in, and Sheldon closing his eyes to savour the moment, however brief. It's not going to be as hot as Sheldon grabbing Amy by the hips and molding his body into hers. It's not going to be as hot as Sheldon having to tell Amy something but not being able to stop kissing her, so he mumbles against her lips instead. No matter what, every kiss, every hug, ever handhold Shamy has shared will always be way hotter than whatever mess they filmed last night, because Sheldon was Sheldon during every single one of these, not some fantasy out of a romance novel.
  23. The problem isn't that you or others disagree, it is that you won't let people have their own fucking thoughts and feelings on an episode. No one is telling you you can't love this crapfest if that's what you want, but you keep telling us we have to love it and if we don't we're just a bunch of brain dead shippers who are only after rainbows and unicors. And you're like that literally every week during taping report season, to the point that the first thing that runs through my mind every time I read people are unhappy with an episode is "How long until Phanta's condescending post, now?" It's really starting to get on my goddamn nerves, at least as much as the crapfest the writers are serving us.
  24. To think that our make out session was cut short literally three episodes ago and now we're getting intense Shenny make out lmfao these writers are treating our fanbase like literal garbage rn I'm so mad. Shamy is their cashcow and they're shooting themselves in the foot because most of us won't stand to witness this crap.
