This made me realize that this may be a HUGE reason that the next two taped episodes were extremely light on Shamy plot; I think the writers want to see how viewers respond to this milestone episode before they decide how they want to move on with the portrayal of Shamy's new relationship.
Yeah, it was almost like they didn't want them to be physically together because it would force them to write how Shamy acts with each other before they were certain. Which is why they had Amy go away, and by association, the light Shamy plots.
But I'm okay with it. They need to put the focus on the rest of the cast/whole ensemble for right now. If they can do that and keep the quality of laughs that were tonight's episode, things will be golden.

It seems to me that Chuck is saying that for now, so soon after, he is able to still compartmentalize his relationship with Amy from work, playtime with the boys, etc. But it will be interesting to see if he can still be successful at doing so and not let wanting sex with Amy become more dominant. I could be misinterpreting this, but it sounds like they are still trying to figure out where the most comedy will come from. Seeing Sheldon remain stoic is not nearly as interesting as watching him struggle with urges and desires and try to stuff those into "compartments" based on "agreements", etc. and then "breaking" his rules because he can't keep up with them and so rationalizes ways to break the rules.
That is exactly how I interpreted that quote as well! It took me a few reads of this article to grasp how I felt about it. Some other quotes were very suspect to me, but just as many others gave me hope for the future. What I took away from the article, is the writers are being very careful and probably struggling a little bit in deciding how they want to write Shamy going forward. I have to imagine this is why they wrote the following 2 episodes with Amy being away. That along with the holidays coming up, it gives them a break and more time to think about it all. I'm not worried though because the writers have a track record of moving things forward in a good way.
I suppose we will have to see just how popular this episode was. My guess is that they will incorporate sex more because of how well this episode seems to have been received by the general public (100% my speculation of course).
I couldn't figure out how to quote her, but MJ had a great post about Sheldon's tone when he talked about doing it again with Amy. It came off like "Oh, we are definitely going to be doing THIS again, you can count on that!"
This whole episode was a masterpiece. Hilarious comedy and great sex! What more can you ask for?!

He has never done this before, didn't know what to expect but when Sheldon likes something... it is surely going to happen again and again and again... because he wants to do it...a lot.
It's just like kissing. He did it out of anger at first ( although when Amy kissed him in season 4, he liked it), he added it to the relationship agreement... then in 8.24 when Amy took it all away, it was him complaining about goodbye kissy face. Then in 9.10- it's like he super glued himself to her lips and body. That will happen with coitus too.

I think this article really backs up your point with the quotes from Molaro and Lorre. At the moment he may not put too much stock into more frequent coitus, but now that he has a taste of it and likes it and is good at it, how long will take before he gets the itch to do it again?
I for one, believe that they will be doing it again sooner rather than later.

What I love so much is the difference between these kisses. For starters, these 2 are the hottest kisses they've ever had! And yet when you compare them, the first kiss has Sheldon gently leaning into her at first and then pulling her in a little aggressively, expressing "I've missed you more than you know... I wish I'd kissed you like this a LONG time ago, and I hope it's okay that I'm surprising you with a kiss like this now..."
Lol in the gif Dave is totally like "its great you guys are kissing and all but THIS is what you should really be doing!" *thrusts in direction of Shamy*

It's been a hot minute since I've posted on here (I lurk all the time still though), but this promo!!! It's got me all like
I know all the focus of the promo was on the kiss/look from Sheldon etc. but my absolute favorite part was when Penny broke the wine glass. Like, I keep watching it and die laughing. Her reactions to Shamy are just perfect and Kaley plays it so well. Can't wait to see the full scene on Thursday!

Loved the whole episode! My favorite so far of the season

Wow I guess my prediction of 2 months before the fandom did a 180 should have been more like 2 days. Haha talk about bombshell though! I love when the forum is in this mood.

Thank you Michy for being a voice of clarity and reason. Brilliant explanation on both Shamy and Lenny. As a person who has gone to tapings before, I subscribe to the notion that people who go to the taping are the people whose opinions are most valid before the episode airs because they see the physical product before anyone else. This is why I hardly ever comment my opinion on an episode before I watch it. I do, however, like to speculate what may be coming next.
I feel like the writers were only half telling the truth when they said we would find out about the ring at Comicon (.....oh yeah that's right....SHELDON HAS A RING!!!). A ring that we heard absolutely nothing about from the taping last night (unless I missed that part). Assuming that this year there will be 2 episodes when it premiers, we could get more info on the ring in episode 2 and it still technically being on the "season premier". Because lets face, we need to know more about this ring! I haven't seen it brought up once by people since the report (I did skip a couple pages in this thread so forgive me if this statement is incorrect).
Let's not forget that Amy knows nothing about this ring Sheldon has. What sort of feelings will it cause her to have if she finds out about it? How much would its reveal change things? While it does seem rather cliche to have her be filled with joy when he presents her with something material, I think the writers have the potential to make it work in this instance.
It's hard to know how any of this all will turn out for both Lenny and Shamy, but I think it's fascinating none the less.

Anyone wonder if the info about learning about Amy's past/family could tie into Sheldon taking a more active interest in things related to Amy? I mean who wouldn't want to go show off to friends/family if your man just put a ring on it!
(side note: first time back on the forum since season finale. Nice to see all these new members. Only bad part is this new forum layout is so weird to me still).

He's such a potty mouth haha. I love it.
Glad you had fun!
Watching the Rockets/Warriors game. It's intense!
ETA: Houstons lost by one point! That puts them down two games. That's a hard mountain to climb, but I've seen it happen before. It's a best of 7 series.
Idk if anyone cares, haha. But I just thought I'd keep people updated on Jim's team. Basketball is my life during the summer.
My Warriors pulled it out! Rockets are a great team and the next couple games should be really interesting. Jim must have been pretty pissed that they let the opportunity to win slide right out from underneath them.

it was not a promise ring that a teenager would give his girlfriend. It was a full-on engagement ring with a ROW of white diamonds.
Thanks for the clarification
Just wanted to make sure I didn't get my hopes up and it just ended up being some ring as some trinket he gives her.
Had my wisdom teeth taken out today so I've had a lot of time to think about the Shamy while I recover.

I have a question for the people who went to the finale taping. Was the ring Sheldon pulled out 100% an engagement ring? Or is there a chance the ring is only a promise ring or will be used for non-engagement purposes?
Sorry to be a buzzkill with that, but I was just curious and y'all have seen it first hand.
-
We all know in the season opener they can't just gloss over the fact he pulled out a friggen RING! As long as the writers don't make Amy freak out more and do something drastic IF he shows her the ring, then I'm cool with whatever goes down. I have to believe they will end up talking it out like they usually do and everything will be even better than it was before.
I vote we all pool our money and buy a time machine so we can jump forward to the start of s9 tapings...

@BBTGUY Now I'm curious about whether the "dramatic changes" between him and Amy are caused by the Lenny wedding date or if it's the dramatic changes between Shamy are what cause him to push for the wedding date? What do you think?
My thought is that Sheldon will want to move in with Amy. It is a big step yes, but he will know in his heart that he is ready which is why he is pushing Lenny for a wedding date. So he can get the heck out that apartment so Shamy can fornicate on every piece of furniture....just thought I'd add that little bit at the end just for fun

My motto: never speculate. I've been burned. Badly. (*cough, cough* Intimacy Acceleration)
In all fairness, as far as I know we never had a basic plot synopsis for Intimacy Acceleration. We only had the title to go off of. In this case we have the title and a small plot overview.
Someone mentioned that if it's Sheldon doing the pushing then it could only be that he's doing it because it's gonna benefit him in some way. But how exactly could that be good news for Sheldon? Ugh! Lol Too many possibilities. As far as Sheldon trying to have his way with the wedding date, what do you think what his motivation is behind that?
I think you are talking about my post on the previous page of this thread. I made that assertion going off of the premise that Sheldon always seems to present an idea with his best interests in mind. I think it will be good for him because it will be something that he WANTS which takes off any pressures he might feel which we all know means good things for the status of Shamy. As for his motivation....who knows? I just can't think of a bad scenario as to why he would want Lenny to choose a date.
Really enjoying the possibility of this potential Lenny/Shamy dual finale.

“The Status Quo Combustion”: Sheldon is forced to confront an uncertain future and considers a major move.
Just gonna throw that up there from last season's finale. Compare to this season finale's description.
“The Commitment Determination” – Sheldon (Jim Parsons) pushes Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) to choose a date for their wedding and deals with dramatic changes in his own relationship with Amy (Mayim Bialik).
Look at the difference in the bolded parts. We know that when Sheldon feels forced, he gets stressed and reacts badly. But we also know when he is being pushy toward someone about an idea, its because he wants something. So the question is what does he want, and my guess is that it relates to Amy.
As for the use of the word dramatic, also gonna throw this up here:
dra·mat·icdrəˈmadik/adjectiveadjective: dramatic-
1.of or relating to drama or the performance or study of drama."the dramatic arts"
-
2.(of an event or circumstance) sudden and striking."a dramatic increase in recorded crime"synonyms: considerable, substantial, sizable, goodly, fair, marked, noticeable, measurable, perceptible, obvious, appreciable; Moreantonyms: insignificant
-
exciting or impressive."he recalled his dramatic escape from the building"antonyms: boring, unimpressive
-
(of a person or their behavior) intending or intended to create an effect; theatrical."with a dramatic gesture, she put a hand to her brow"antonyms: natural, unaffected
-
I choose to interpret the word with the 2nd definition of "exciting or impressive". I think dramatic just means big changes happening rather quickly. I doubt anything horrible will happen.

All I hope for is we get some sort of cliffhanger that leaves us all with our jaws-dropped. That's my one complaint I've had personally with the show's season finales. I don't feel like any have gone balls-to-the-wall as they could have. I want something crazy to happen. Super pumped to see what happens though however good or bad it might be.

I wonder if this is the blow up between Sheldon and Leonard. The mothers are there for advice and comfort, and Marry is on Leonard side, and Beverly is on Sheldon's side. That would set up the final episode where the fight continues with one of them says they are moving out at the end of 8.24.
I really like the premise of this idea!
But I also want interactions with the moms and Amy/Penny in some sort of fashion.
And I'd like to see Bev/Mary show the opposite of how they are portrayed on the show (i.e. Bev some real heartfelt emotion to Leonard and Penny, Mary encouraging un-Christian-like things for Shamy, etc.)
I just want it all gah!!! Who knows how it will all play out.....all I know is this will be LOL funny!
Damn this episode has so much potential and hopefully they don's squander it.

Maybe it'll be like season 4's finale and nobody is going to be sent away this time. The leak to tv line is interesting, however. I think that one possibility given this new information is that Lenny elope and Sheldon freaks out, (explaining the return of both moms.) My preferred plausible s/l is that the coitus finally happens, and both Beverly and Mary come to Pasadena to talk with Sheldon about what happened.
As an aside, if someone has to be sent away, can Emily get a one way ticket to Mars? Sorry, but I really don't like the character...
I like where your idea comes from. In my personal opinion, however, I'd rather them not just sort of glaze over the fact they just had coitus and make the big portion of the episode the moms coming in the aftermath of it. I think Shamy coitus should be front and center and the focus rather than the moms reactions.
Gosh the potential they have with this episode is unfathomable. I keep seeing comments from non forum people saying how this could be golden BBT material if the writers play their cards right. My fear is that Mary and Beverly won't share the screen together, but I'm so hoping I'm wrong and we get one of the best episodes of the season if not the series!

[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 9
in Season 9
Posted
And lets be real, when Shamy move in together I'm sure sex will happen. All I need is a scene where Sheldon and Amy are together intimately and Sheldon gets caught by the rest of the gang with his pants down. I would die of laughter lol
