  1. The boat kiss was a temporary invented insert to add a bit of drama to the start of their marriage and at least was resolved and put to bed in consecutive weeks and in hindsight was followed with 3 seasons to heal the wounds. This adds a sense of certainty to the no kid plot 9 episodes ago ( ridiculous amount of time to let it hang out to dry with no follow up) and then gets put on hold again like it didn’t happen in next week’s episode, other than a quick joke from Bernie at the end that she could get her pregnant. And we know we are approaching end game with no positive outcome in sight. This is moving dangerously into HIMYM territory.

I’ve been on and off this forum for nearly 6 years and always had the rep as the rational, calming influence in my heyday here. I’m surprised and embarrassed I’m reacting so emotionally to this. The Lenny story and itwasdestined story were almost mirror images. We even share a wedding anniversary. This no kids thing is really killing this old child lover.

  2. Nope, THAT just was not good

I don’t care if it’s solved in the end. It’s just not the story that needed to be told. And then we’re left hanging for a week while Nobel and Penny avoiding another crisis in confidence take centre stage.

It would have been easier to take just ignoring the whole topic and just ending the show with Lenny comfortably avoiding progress. I don’t want Penny changing her mind simply because it will justify the plot in the minds of the writers. I never expected this forever calm and rational itwasdestined forum character to react like this but here it is. THAT was bad. 66078a545c0777d739fd6c2d6e7f5216.jpg

  3. THAT was not good

I don’t care that Lenny were so sweet on the boat before the bombshell and kissed.....that was not good.

I don’t care Penny decided not to have kids without discussing it....... that was not good

I don’t care that both Penny and Leonard both have reason to be annoyed with the other ...... that was not good

I don’t care that Penny was the bigger person and thought it was Leonard’s decision since she made hers.....that was not good

I don’t care that Penny was so sweet to say they couldn’t have chosen a better person ..... that was not good

I don’t care that we haven’t seen the decision yet so he might say no still and I’ve uncharacteristically complained early.......that was not good

I don’t care that the story might still turn around and Lenny get the ending we’ve wanted for nearly 12 years.........that was not good

    That just was not good.

    FOR ME -

Worse than the BS Boat kiss

    Worse than the bowling alley

    Worse than Priya

    Worse than the Raj thing

Worse than Penny nearly ending it at the start of Season 6

Worse than years of being trapped behind a kitchen island with nothing to do

Worse than Penny having years of no success

Worse than Leonard being constantly devalued by every friend

That was not good. The show is poorer for the writers thinking this was a good idea

  4. And the Lenny/Zac story can’t even get 2 consecutive weeks to develop I know they’re coming back but why does every Lenny story get delayed - not a peep since the episode 3 no kids call until this out of nowhere sperm donor thing and then because of course Penny never tries to deal with anything, we move on to a work story with Bernie. Frustrating

  5. You got kids, chucky? ( genuine question, not saying you can’t have an opinion without them)

As someone who has had kids the “traditional, biological” way, and have friends who have done both IVF and adoption/fostering, and I suppose as a teacher of 31 years who has helped kids from far from ideal family environments pick themselves up, it would be my feeling from my experiences that the joy of adopting a child who has missed out on the love of parents and getting the opportunity to make their lives better while at the same time getting the opportunity to be a parent, something you thought you’d never be due to your own circumstances, would possibly even exceed the experience of your “normal” procreate/birth/parent experience.

I’m not sure I want this to be the case and I think it goes beyond the simplistic thinking of TPTB of TBBT, but IF Leonard is found to be infertile, IF we find out Penny is more worried about the pregnancy bit but not the parenting bit and IF she suggests adoption, I’d be OK with that IF Leonard sees it as a way to raise a kid to have a happier life than he did as a child

    EXCEPT

I want this to stay a comedy

    AND

We’ve seen it before in Friends with Monica and Chandler and Big Bang is not the same kind of comedy that would deal with it as sweetly as Friends did.

I just want a satisfying, happy finale for Lenny, both shopper and couple cos this thread would need more than group therapy intervention if it doesn’t happen

  6. I wonder if the writers know some fans see Lenny's lines, and the odd side comment from others, that way ? I bet they think they're only writing Leonard and Penny a running gag. They show us no actual evidence that the marriage is insecure nor that either of them thinks so.

They don’t. In reality, they see Lenny as a married couple who are generally comfortable in their marriage, too comfortable with nothing really going on and are just going through the motions of living life as it comes interacting and intervening in the lives of friends they care for, even though Leonard in particular gets nothing back in return from them other than snarky jibes when comedy “demands” Leonard be a target. Every now and then, they notice nothing much has happened on the Lenny front, remember the last thing they did about them, give them an episode of something to shake it up a bit, then put them back on the back burner before rushing something at the end of a season, when something often happens with them. There’s nearly always something Lenny in the last couple of episodes of a season
    1- first date
2- Penny reveals to audience depth of feeling for Leonard
    4 - the unspeakable Raj/Penny thing and Leonard/Priya doubt
5 - the post coitus proposal tension
6- the farewell party as Leonard goes on trip
    7- engagement
8- the ill fated Vegas elopement and kiss reveal
    9- the wedding redo idea
    10/11 all Shamy.
Always ( nearly) a bit of Lenny drama to stress out the Lenny crowd over a break.

Some got a good continuation but others got little follow up. And some came out of nowhere after not much was happening in Lenny land. The difference now is there is no “next season” to drag out the “just living the married Life comfortably” non story into a what might happen next arc. The show is ending and we don’t know if the writers know how to complete the Lenny story in a satisfying way. That’s what brings out the Dark Lenny in us who care for the characters.

  7. I don’t the writers can be bothered breaking them up. It would involve too much thought and creativity. The seasons 3-5 breakup too reunion arc was, while occasionally painful for Lennies, brilliantly executed by them. They don’t care enough about the story anymore to do anything than mix drama with homeostasis. They need them as a couple to feed lines to Shamy and observe life from the kitchen island while grabbing bottles of water to drink. The no kids thing will be briefly enticing and cause us to sweat blood but I just don’t think they have enough interest to attempt a breakup. Lenny love being together (off screen and in the kitchen ) too much to do that.

  8. I look at that smile and the whole scene overall in different ways. First, I just see it as the common Kaley the actor who throughout the series from day one reacts to lines by laughing or smiling and TPTB just leave it in.

Then it’s also that smug (not sure that’s the right word) sense of satisfaction Penny the character gets when she gets some acknowledgement that others worship ( again probably too strong a word) her, like during that Amy infatuation period, or when she dismissed that Leonard would cheat on her, the producer of Apeist made the too hot for you comment, the wear her down crap, the I’m getting free drinks looking like this stuff. It almost looked like “ha, I can get away with stuff cos he’s still worried about me dumping him”. That’s the dark thought that has me linking back to the no kids conversation earlier in season. Leonard briefly got mad but then Penny put on that whole “Oh Leonard, don’t be mad, you’re OK with me deciding aren’t you?” Vibe and he was “suddenly OK” with it. It was different to the Valentine’s Day episode when he was proactive in giving her control over the proposal. This time on the no kids thing was Leonard conceding reluctantly IMHO.

Which then leads into next week and hopefully beyond and the sperm donor decision. Does Leonard admit he’s not OK with having no kids and this his way of actually getting what he wants for a change, does he relent again to another Penny “Oh Leonard don’t be like that” and settle for homeostasis or do we get the often played out Story of Penny being insecure about big decisions and risks and changing her mind because Leonard will as always be there as her strength and help her be a mum? Stay tuned.

( man, when did I become a Dark Lenny? I’ve always been the positive one. I still believe the smile is just a Kaley reaction)

  9. I generally enjoyed this episode, although less than I thought I would, maybe because the Lenny and Lenny and Stuart scenes were so short and rushed. But I had chuckles and overall I consider this one of the better episodes of the season.
The Sheldon plot (it wasn't much about Amy) did make me laugh, and Sheldon distress-ticking was a highlight, IMO. I felt Jim's performance was better and more in the right energy this time. I think they could've cut some time out of it though, as ususal the Sheldon plot gets too much time while other scenes are rushed and cut short.
I liked Stuart and Denise a lot and I wish they've given a little more time to that, it felt rushed and more like a summary of a plot than an actual one. I think it was thanks to Kevin's acting that I was able to get some feelings out of these short glimpses of scenes.
Raj was being his usual jerky self that he is when something about a girlfriend is not the way he wants it to be. Classic Raj. It was bad of him to spy on Anu in the first place, but he could have at least talked to her like a normal person and ask about it. I'm glad they've realized rushing into marriage is not a good idea. They may still work (that is if Anu does not have unresolved feelings for her ex) but they need time to work on it.
Howard and Bernadette felt OOC to me in their scend together. I thought Bernadette was pretending to be hurt so Howard would get closer and she could revenge-shoot in from a step away. I was confused when she didn't, more so since Howard said she would want to shoot him. The quick "let's make out" felt more Lenny than Howardette to me. I feel like the writers have lost some of the distinctions between the characters, especially when it comes to couples' dynamics.
Bernadette just coming in and taking the flag and then just coming in and shooting the Shamy was great.
I really liked that Lenny organized an activity for the group together. I also think it shows that it's not that hard to find something they both enjoy! The writers can do it, they usually just don't want to. Here it served them so they did. Leonard was very cute in this one, IMO. Not wanting to hurt his wife and then talking about still having the fear of losing her. I wish those scens s weren't so short. Even a second more of Penny's smile after Leonard admits fearing losing her would have made the episode better for me.

Howardette seem to have become the Sex mad couple of the show now. Has become quite prevalent since Howie had the snip. Bernie seems to be constantly hot for Howie. Lenny are just comfortably happy.

I reckon the Lenny scene with Stuart was a subtle ( everything with Lenny is brief and subtle) reaction to the no kids dilemma. Penny thinks everything’s fine and Leonard’s insecurity explains the quick change of heart about Penny’s decision. I think the smile is just Kaley’s natural reaction to what she finds funny that gets left in by the producers - been happening since day 1.

I did love how Lenny were the glue of the group again, organising the event ( yes they have things they enjoy together, obvious since they have spent years coming back from things to enter Shamy scenes) then getting involved in the Stunise story. I love how Penny has shipped all of her friend’s relationships and she is always looking out for Stuart. Lenny are everyone’s best friends and looking out for everyone. Would be nice if their friends could reciprocate when they need it.

I liked the Rajanu story although yet again Raj oversteps the mark with his girl as he’s done with ALL of them. It needed the realisation that it was too fast. I hope it doesn’t end and he finally gets the chance to mend a relationship and get it right. Might be another job for Lenny.

I used to love Shamy and Sheldon and Amy as individuals but they were the miss of the episode. Since the engagement and marriage I find them......... I actually can’t think of the word to describe. I just don’t enjoy their interactions like I used to. There are individual moments I find hilarious but their overall vibe is off for me.

I also thought there was enough paintball. It was the vehicle to the couples interactions and most of them cane through the paintball. Not sure what was expected. I think we got as much paintball action as the early season episodes. ( and Howard does get a lot of sex as a result of the game!)

  10. I loved their interest in Stuart and Denise’s relationship. Penny is such a shipper of all her friends love interests and does have a soft spot for Stuart. And Leonard knows how Stuart feels and does a much better job at giving him advice than a certain time back in Season 2. Was your classic Lenny commenting on and observing their friends kind of episode. They’re everyone’s best friends. Pity they don’t get much in return when they need it.

And Penny still doesn’t get why Leonard is still insecure. FFS Leonard, she loves you!

  11. I think there was sufficient paintball action. Not sure what was expected. It was a vehicle for the couples interactions which linked to the paintball except for the Shamy whining. They didn’t even participate which considering “early seasons”(pre Amy) Sheldon’s dedication to the game was disappointing. Stunise were adorable, Rajanu needed that interaction, Bernie was predictably competitive and is it just me or is she constantly up for sex these days and Lenny were the bit players who let it all unfold around their observations and commentary on the group with just enough time to push Leonard’s insecurity and Penny’s “everything’s fine” attitude. Could be both a subtle lead in to what unfolds next week and a rationale for Leonard’s too quick backdown on the No Kids decision from Penny.

Having said all that, I found it one of the funnier episodes of the season

  12. Best single Leonard (not Lenny) scene ever IMHO was his graduation speech via Skype. Really struck a chord with me and was Leonard really opening up about his life. Brilliant writing and acting.

  13. Laughed quite a bit. Was a decent episode. I watch and enjoy YS so the crossover didn’t faze me but I get the confusion of non viewers with George Snr. He definitely is not the BBT version. As a bit of a softie I liked the connection he made with his dad. Too much whiny Sheldon spoilt it though.

Lenny are just Shamys helpful neighbours now who crack a few jokes or pull a few faces before being inserted into Sheldon’s problem of the week. Howardette are slowly replacing them as the secondary couple for stories at least.

Melissa and Mayim must wonder some weeks why Kunal ( and even Kaley and Johnny some weeks ) get paid so much more than them. Raj was about as useful to this episode as Georgie Jnr on the VCR.

Really telling that the writers find value in a puff piece plot on Howard’s magic act but can’t find a story for Lenny without Shamy.

  14. That's sad to hear. I guess that since it is the last season there are more VIPs coming.

I went in Season 10 and a lot of VIPs knocked out some guaranteeds. Luck I was 10th in line ( coming from Australia was taking no chances). Doesn’t have to be last season or even special episodes. Sometimes it just the cast bring a lot of guests in on a given week. Mayim and Raj took up the whole front row when I went.

  15. I started watching the show in my mid 40s and I’ll admit Kaley’s appearance appealed. ( but it was more the nerd comedy TBH) But I quickly focused more on the Lenny relationship and it’s similarities to my life while occasionally enjoying Penny’s more risqué outfits. She continues to be gorgeous.

  16. Well, we did get the scene with Penny and Bernadette. Penny was speaking about “decisive Leonard” and she made a request he didn’t deny. She was quite giddy and obviously remembering her high level of satisfaction. A most enjoyable episode for this Lenny shipper!!! #LennyRulesInTheBoudoir!!!

Was a great episode for Lenny but can take that moment both ways. Agree with SRAM that it would have been nice to see the long overdue physical interaction with Lenny since we have been hit with several Shamy and especially Howardette bed scenes while Lenny haven’t left the kitchen/couch for ages.

But then considering the amount of snarky, negative press Lenny get from their friends ( and themselves sometimes) around that couch area, particularly in earlier S12 episodes, it was good to hear a public positive announcement from Penny to one of their friends, following up from the previous episode’s positive nearly private (Stuart, Lenny’s best shipper, was a hidden witness) pronouncement of love. That is rare from the writers these days.

  17. Reminded me of Holographic this episode. Seeing Leonard in action does seem to turn Penny on. Last two weeks seem to have turned the relationship around back to positive Lenny. Does this coincide with post show ending announcement rewriting of Lenny dynamic to bring the fun back for one final hurrah? Seems that the Lenny are going to split up discussions are a distant memory after the recent return of Loving Lenny. Here’s hoping it continues, with the odd bump in the road as expected, for rest of the year. And 3 strong Lenny stories out of 7 shows is a decent ratio based on last few seasons. After a rather average start to S12, last two have been a big jump in laughs AND Lenny.

  18. Yeah, makes me wonder if the writers are mellowing out on Lenny!

Don’t do that yourself. They’ll just let you down in a couple of weeks and you’ll be upset again. Just live in the moment of Halloween and enjoy what you can.

  19. They don’t always get the dialogue right with Penny. I had no problem with her kiss as a feeling sorry for you reaction. Feeling sorry for someone is not a negative thing. She literally said “I’m so sorry you didn’t get your party” then kissed him to show she was “upset” about that and here’s my belated birthday present to you - a non drunk kiss to make you feel better. And it worked! Each to their own opinion but IMO sometimes we get “dark” for the sake of it here. It was a great Lenny episode that we were pre stressed about because of out of context preview clips and maybe we’re still clinging on to the anger we had . I’m happy with the whole Lenny story in this episode, except the tag could have been the follow on to their last scene.

  20. Are Bert and Denise on a rotation system? Bert not needed and neither was Stuart if Denise didn’t come. Stunise would have made more sense since Stuart held the last Halloween party and has shown an interest in cosplay and dress up parties and Denise is clearly cut from the same cloth. Weird character choices for extras.
