It is true Sheldon was the catalyst in many episodes but I also enjoyed the episodes where he was not the central figure. I also think as you mention Penny and Leonard were reduced to secondary characters in the last three seasons after being the core couple from the beginning. I often wondered how Johnny and Kaley felt about this even though the were being paid handsomely.
I often wondered about their feelings on the show starting to be more Shamy. Also wondered about what Simon, Melissa and Kunal thought as well. We'll probably never know.
1 minute ago, Mario D. said:As a Lenny fan it was disappointing to see how their story got to be so stagnant. TPTB could have written a few more episodes for them instead of concentrating on the Shamy wedding and Nobel quest. In the final season throwing that plotline of Zack & Marissa wanting a child to just come up with any storyline for Lenny was ridiculous. But I guess the episode where Penny tells Leonard she does not want kids sort of backed them into a corner. First of all to express that three years into the marriage was kind of selfish and then the writers failed to explore it further to reason why she did not want kids. Even though Penny gets pregnant in the end it felt forced upon the fans.
Totally agree. I believe Season 11 and 12 wasted too much time and energy on the Shamy engagement, wedding planning and Nobel nonsense.

Lmfao 😂😂 too funny
Well unlike you guys I don't think the show could have gone on without him. He was the major draw, people watched the show for him and in the later seasons, for the Shamy. It simply doesn't work without him
In my opinion it would work without him. The episodes could then be more ensemble episodes. Then the other characters could be more explored instead of an afterthought by the writers.

Hello Miramanee, welcome to the forum. For someone who does not know English that well you write exceptionally. As Chucky has replied Big Bang Theory had ended because Jim Parsons (Sheldon) thought it was time to leave as his character did not have any more story lines. He got married and won the Nobel Prize his two main goals. However, all the other characters were left without real closure. And you are right he is an obnoxious, insulting condescending jerk who never really grew up. It is not until the last episode does he realize, thanks to his wife, how selfish he was to his friends. If it were not for them he wouldn't have any friends at all.
Totally concur!😊

Hi guys!
I signed up here on the forum today because I want to find out why the series was discontinued. Somewhere I read that Jim Parsons didn't want to continue. Which irritates me, because he is not necessary for the series. In fact, since season 7 he only disturbs. Because his character doesn't really develop, he is always the same nerd, who believes to know a lot means you are intelligent. And of course his conviction that the earth would turn only because of him and the sun would shine only for him. Overconfidence squared.
First of all, it might be important to know that I bought the series online in German a few weeks ago. The English track is available for free, but I don't know English that well. Especially not when it comes to sarcasm and hidden insinuations. In other words, I only heard about this series not too long ago and decided to watch it. My family has never had television, we go to the movies or buy DVDs. Every now and then we book a movie or series online for entertainment. (Note: we don't have TV reception, but we do have TV devices that run mainly as monitors; so we redirect entertainment booked online with notebooks to them).
So far I have avoided watching the last season. It would have been nice if 'Sheldon' would have been slowly removed in the 12th season and Barry Kripke would have been built up instead - a really brilliant supporting role. Sheldon would not be missed, because contrary to what Sheldon believes about himself, he is as dumb as bread. A walking, pompous data storage device, nothing more. Kripke has such a cool way of unsettling everyone and also driving them a little crazy. A good man, in whom the role of Mayim Bialik could have fallen in love, after Shelden would have gone missing in the Arctic like Lex Luthor once did in Smallville. As a final scene, he could have been shown in Hawking's wheelchair on an iceberg. Frozen with icicles on his nose.
The series could have run for another 10 years without Jim Parson, with him there was probably no choice but to end it.
LG, Janisha.
Interesting point of view. I agree that the show could have continued without Jim/Sheldon. The show was discontinued due to Chuck Lorre decided if one of the big three (Jim, Johnny or Kaley) decided to quit, then he would end the show. At least that's my understanding. So, Jim wanted to quit, the show ended. 😊

Well, another great morning. Storms due later this week. Thank goodness it's not Hurricane Season yet!

I recall seeing a couple of photos on her IG of her sister holding Matilda and yes only one pic of her parents with the baby. Also, believe there were pics of Tom's family with the baby (parents and brother & sister-in-law) on his IG
You'd think that there would be more.

You know what I find odd? We haven't seen any pics of Kaley's parents with the baby. And I don't recall seeing much of them during the pregnancy
Yeah, that is odd. You'd think that there would be pictures of the happy grandparents. Maybe they will come out later.

Oh, what a beautiful morning. Sun shining and in the low 70's. Gonna be a great day indeed!

The article reports that, "Chuck Lorre is “developing a new comedy series derived from The Big Bang Theory."
I don't see any of the less than fully employed TBBT main cast as viable candidates to carry a show centered on their character. A possible scenario could be altogether new characters operating in the same Cal-Tech centered environment. That would allow for cameos from some of the original cast, (Stuart, Burt, Kripke, etc.) without requiring the presence of the 6 main cast. Several of which would have limited availability due to other projects while others have fairly strongly established that they have little interest in returning to their characters in performance mode. That pretty much eliminates Jim, Mayim, and Melissa. Johnny is less than enthusiastic about reprising Leonard, Howard is half of Howardette and Bernadette is out. Kunal may be willing to give it a go but Raj just isn't that compelling on his own.
Agreed. Although Raj and Stuart might work with cameos from the main cast. Kaley, Johnny and Simon may agree to cameos due to them not being time consuming. Who knows, we'll see.

I was thinking about this last night. The Friends spin-off was Joey because he was the only one single at the end.
What if it's Raj, back in India? Some sort of Bollywood thing???
Raj without Howard, Leonard or Sheldon is boring. As I have said, Stuart would work.

Strange how we don't see her in any pics though 🤷♀️
We don't see pictures of her other pets as well. The last 9 months she's been involved with her pregnancy and birth. We may see pictures later. 😊

Could it possibly about Raj (Kunal Nayyar) He seems to be the only one of the cast that isn't doing something long term.
Personally, I don't think he could sustain a series alone either. Raj really was boring without the other cast members. He needed another cast member to carry a scene. Johnny, Kaley, Jim, Melissa and Mayim are busy with family and other projects. I assume Simon is as well. So maybe a series with Kanal and Kevin with the other cast members making cameo appearances would work. 😊

She might be staying with Kaley's parents
Good possibility. But, if Kaley's in California, Shirley is probably with her. I believe she's the pet that's been with her the longest since Norman passed.

Please no to the comic book store.
Maybe it will be based round other geeks at the university. Geologists? Biologists? Engineers?
That wouldn't work as well as they won't have a connection to TBBT Show. I think it'll based on Padawans.

I believe she is ad there hasn't been a announcement about her dying. She is a very important part of her life.

I was just watching Live with Kelly and Ryan. They had as a guest Jennifer Nettles - country singer and actress. I thought to myself that she would have been perfect to play Penny's older sister in TBBT if they had a season 13 and they introduced her sister character. Jennifer is very similar in looks to Penny and also has that bubbly personality.
She would. But, alas Jim torpedoed Season 13.

You could be right. When I was writing that about Stuart I was thinking is Stuart/Kevin able to sustain a show as the lead character. Kevin has only played supporting characters in his career.
I don't think he can sustain a show either. I mean he owns a comic book store. There's not too many storylines there.

I am totally a Penny and Leonard fan and I was just trying to point out the times Penny hurt Leonard EMOTIONALLY. And I don't think Penny really did any of these things intentionally. Maybe it was the way the writers wrote these characters but anyone can see that Leonard was hurt from these situations. Also, Leonard probably could have handled these situations a little better instead of whining about them.
True, Leonard could have handled each situation better. But, the writers wouldn't allow it. The way they wrote Lenny the 3 years had me wondering why they got married.

Think the prevailing opinion is it will be about Stuart and the comic book store with possibly Denise also appearing. And like you suggest Johnny, Kaley, Jim and the rest of them could make cameo appearances.
I don't think it would be about Stuart. That would be boring as well. At best, he was a supporting cast member. I see maybe 3 or 4 episodes before they run out of stories. I still see it being a show about the children of the couples. According to the article I read, none of the cast wanted or had time for a new series right now. A reunion show would be doable, I believe. That's why I see main cast of TBBT making cameos. That would also be doable, in my humble opinion.

What do we think the new show will be?
- "Young Amy" would be amazing!
- How about a futuristic thing where we see the grandkids flying cars?
Sorry, but in my opinion "Young Amy" would be boring. I think it should be centered around the kids after they grow up. Then Johnny, Kaley, Jim and the rest could make cameo appearances.

1. She meets this hot confident guy who asks her out. Why was she supposed to refuse? Was she supposed to wait for Leonard to ask her out again? The same Leonard who had been with Leslie and Stephanie in the meantime . Clearly, in Penn's mind, he had moved on.
2. Leonard told her he was okay with it. If he had a problem with it he should have said so.
3. A drunk Penny wants to have sex with him while he's sober. He should have said no. Plus Penny never said anything to indicate she wanted to renew the relationship.
4. She didn't lead him on, she made it clear it was a one night thing
5. How's that Penny's fault?
6. Drunken mistake. It's not like slept with Raj with the purpose of hurting Leonard. Plus she felt bad about it the next morning.
7.he never mentioned her being ashamed of him??
9. She was selfish yes but it's not like she showed a Sheldon and the RA a lot of respect. She clearly knew how to manipulate him to get what she wanted from the RA. She was smarter than Leonard who just went with the RA and bitched and moaned about it and did nothing.
10. Well if he had shown a bit more interest in what Penny liked he wouldn't have felt left out.
11. She could and should have been more tactful when she told him about her decision
I find the list incredibly biased and unfair to Penny. Both have done shitty things to each other. Leonard hurt her just as much. I'd even go as far as saying he hurt her more.
Well, seems to me you're a Penny fan. What you said is accurate, but she did do those things. Intentional or not it did hurt Leonard. You can add all her snarky comments to the list. Especially after they were engaged and married. The New Year's kiss Zack gave her wasn't her fault but it did hurt Leonard. At their second wedding, she said "he was the love of her life ". Her actions didn't show that with her snarkiness. But, I blame the writers.

While re-watching some episodes the thought occurred to me how many times Penny hurt Leonard emotionally. So, I thought I would make a list and to my surprise it kept going. I am a Lenny fan but sometimes Penny, even though she loved him, was a little mean to him. As it seems the discussion in the forum is lacking I thought this might be interesting.
1, When Penny dated Dave Underhill
2. When Penny went on two dates with Stuart
3. When Penny was mad with Zack and went to Leonard for sex and then told him it was a mistake.
4. When they all were at the Big Sur conference and Penny told Leonard it was only a one night thing when he assumed they were getting back together.
5. The New Years Eve fiasco when Zack kissed Penny at midnight right in front of Leonard. Penny really wanted to be with Leonard that night.
6. When Penny and Raj emerged from Leonard's bedroom with Leonard thinking they had sex.
7. After they were engaged Penny started working as a pharmaceutical sales rep and would take her engagement ring off to get more sales. Leonard thought she was ashamed to be engaged to him.
8. After they were married Penny sides with Sheldon in the roommate agreement instead of her husband.
9. When Raj moved in with Penny and Leonard and she started doing things with him and Leonard felt like a third wheel in his own marriage.
10. When Penny confessed to Leonard she did not want children.
Those were completely accurate. She did technically took the ring off, but only to put it on her right hand. Although she also turned it around. You can also add the times when Sheldon talked of being bullied and she said "when he talks about being bullied, she wants to hug and make him feel better. Then says Leonard probably deserved it or had it coming when he was being bullied ".
Why is it over?

In my humble opinion, he was the major draw because the writers wrote it that way. They could have written about Lenny's pregnancy. Raj and Anu possibly getting back together. There are so many avenues the writers could have tried. Sheldon and Amy were not the show. But Chuck Lorre and the other powers that may be, took the easy way and ended the show.
