  1. Sorry, but the term 'Lifestyle Choice' makes me cringe.

Those who think you can choose your sexual orientation are usually stumped when I ask how they suppress their homosexual urges. It's a 'choice' after all, no, so you must 'choose' to ignore them then? Or perhaps you don't get to choose at all, and you are what you are:- Heterosexual, Homosexual, Bisexual or Asexual. I know I certainly didn't get to choose my own sexuality and I've yet to met anyone who did.

I do realise you want to be supportive, but the term 'lifestyle choice' fuels homophobia.

  2. The only real reference to Sheldon's mental condition is the running joke: "I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested".   If they intended for people to believe that Sheldon actually had a mental disorder they would have said so.

    Spot on!

The line is not: "My Mother had me tested, I'm on the Autistic Spectrum."

He WAS tested. His issues are typical of the arrested social development that often accompanies high intelligence; no interest in playing immature playground games with children his own age but unable to connect with those closer to his own IQ due to the age gap, no college kid hangs out with an 11 year old.

The (much hated in some circles) growth in his character reflects this.

The 'follow up with the specialist in Houston' would likely be in order to develop better social skills.

  3. I was just listening to "The Weight of the World" by Editors (from their album An End Has A Start aka the best album of the last decade basically) and I realised that those lines scream Shamy (minus the God part, seeing how Sheldon's an atheist):

    You touch my face

    God whispers in my ears

There are tears in my eyes

    Love replaces fear

    That is all. Carry on.

    Will go listen!

Was watching Shrek the other day and never realised just how fitting the song 'Beautiful Freak' by Eels is for Shamy.

    Get googling, seriously, it's uncanny!

  4. Loved S1-4, S5 was weak in parts IMO, but am loving S6 so far (in UK, so only up to Spoiler Alert here).

I do however disagree that the addition of Bernadette and Amy has weakened the show. Amy is now my second favourite character after Sheldon, and Mayim and the writers have done an amazing job with her character; the tiara scene was genius.

It's true that the characters need to grow for the show to continue, and it was after all the original premise that the socially inept nerds learn and develop from their friendship with the cool girl across the hall.

Was dreading S6 a bit after the hit and miss of S5, so relieved that it's back on track (The Bakersfield Expedition was one of the funniest episodes I've seen).

  5. A lot of actors lose/gain weight for roles. Jim gained weight for Harvey, maybe he's got something lined up for the Summer which would explain his loss this Season.

    When's 'The Normal Heart' filming?

  6. Daily Mail's reporting is famously sloppy! Also, Kaley was playing Magenta, not Janet as stated!

Did they actually dance the Time Wharp? Looks like they just sang it (is there a video of the whole number)?

After all; it's just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right, with your hands on your hips, you bring your knees in tight, but it's the pelvic thrusts that really drive you insane, let's do the Time Wharp again!!!!!!

If you haven't been to see Rocky Horror at a cinema with audience participation then you're missing a treat lovely people :)

  7. Pfff. Sheldon is logical on the surface, he is a mess of emotions underneath it all. You see it all the time with his temper tantrums, his jealousy, his possessiveness, his narcissism. And even his love for the things he's passionate about. He likes to think of himself as a robot, but he isn't at all. He's whining like a "girl has cooties" kind of thing. Of course he'll never be a Leonard or a Howard, but I also don't think he's as clinical as he thinks he is to just go straight to sex because that's "logical".

Don't get me wrong, I want the id to defeat the ego too. Perhaps Amy's neurological tinkering will turn up trumps after all.

Be a good twist if coitus preceded innocent physical affection!

  9. You can be a feminist and still enjoy romantic touch and love. Sure they may seem illogical if you are thinking with your head instead of heart. Bottom line, Sheldon needs to let go and let his heart drive him at times, especially when it comes to Amy. We see glimpses of that heart now and again. Just like the sweet way he pleaded with Penny to "not hurt his friend". I don't think we are asking for them to behave like normal couples that grope and paw at each other, but we are asking for sweet, tender moments. There is quite a difference between the two.

I mean't feminist in terms of true equality among the sexes BTW. Not the 'hands off' misconception that sadly sticks to the F word :(

Agree it'd be sweet to see Sheldon's emotional id defeat his ego, but kinda suspect this is not where tptb are heading. :(

Love to be proved wrong though! :)

  10. Sheldon is a logical being.

So maybe Shamy will NEVER make-out on the couch. Never kiss, cuddle or hold hands out of simple affection. This behaviour is illogical after all.

Doesn't mean they won't have sex though! There's a payoff to that (a huge rush of endorphins, 'very satisfying').

Holding hands IS sweaty, can be uncomfortable and give you a dead arm if it's for the whole duration of a movie.

Hugging, kissing, meh! What for? Where's it going? In the context of foreplay it's necessary, not necessary otherwise.

Taking the feminist angle, anyone unhappy with a woman being 'pawed' against her will needs to afford Sheldon the same rights.

He's said it himself, he's no-one's 'snuggle bunny'!

  11. Koops, I'm saying he IS physically attracted to Amy. There'd be no point working towards coitus if there's no attraction there; the fact he finds sex ridiculous and off-putting is what's causing the hold-up.

BTW, regarding Tenure, does that not normally allow more freedom to explore unpopular subjects without penalty?

  12. The more I think about it, the more I think he was just trying to cover something up and pretend he's above it all in front of Amy. Like "yeah, yeah, I do not think about those things really!". It's hard to tell without hearing it but it is the only explanation that doesn't make it sound totally random.[/

From a purely logical point of view, if Sheldon didn't find coitus 'ridiculous and off-putting' then there would be no need to 'work on it', it would be happening!

Logic would also dictate that there would be absolutely no point 'working on it' unless you're sexually attracted to the other person to begin with, particularly from the male perspective (fully functioning genitals are requisite)!

  13. Well "The Fan" may just be annoyed because he/she didn't get the autograph they wanted, but its the so called "Studio Insider" that annoys me.

Sounds like JP's a method actor by the article's description of his onset behaviour and also what's been said above. Seems like he doesn't stay in character throughout the whole shoot like some do though, as he does leave his character to interact with the other cast members.

I read an article about how Marilyn Monroe 'changed' after studying method acting with Lee Straasberg and went from being chatty and open with the support crew to seeming somewhat diva-ish and distant. My guess would be that she was simply more focussed and trying to remain in character as she'd been taught.

As regards the fan interaction, perhaps Jim has had bad experiences with stalkers in the past. Being told 'I love you' earnestly by a complete stranger must be pretty unsettling, not to mention being mobbed. Scary!

  14. Yeah I guess it could go either way. Since he didn't like the lip gloss, I guess there's a good chance he wouldn't like a makeover too.

After his conversation with Penny at the beginning of this Season about homeostasis and his request that she change her shampoo back "Green apple? What were you thinking?", I'm guessing no , he'd hate it.

Also, this goes back to the earlier asexual/America's Top Model row. He is not interested in what's conventional. He has never had a problem with Amy's looks. He fantasises about her dandruff :o

  15. no, I do not think so in first place. He was trying to push himself out of his comfortzone with this and see of what he is capeable regarding touching and contact. BUT I would not say that he might not have felt a certain tinglin in his tummy during or afterwards. And that probably caused confusion anyway. But it was maybe there, and this is needed for his development.

But and here is the question: Did he see any of that as sexual? The spanking? The locking her up? Any of it at all?

Who knows?! Just interesting that those two punishments were the first two things that popped into his (lil' roundy) head!!!!

Whatever direction tptb takes this, it's guaranteed to be bizarre. Can't wait!

  16. Does anyone doubt there will be an ugly-duckling-Amy-transforms-into-beautiful-swan-Amy episode coming up? How many previous shows have beaten that horse to death?  Bet the farm on it.

True, but if they take this path, the twist will be in how much Sheldon will hate it; thinking homeostasis and the conversation with Penny about changing her shampoo here. He has no problem with Amy's looks.

Also, his first punishment choice of "locking her in stocks" is pretty BDSM too IMO, so perhaps domination is his 'deal'!

    Loving Season 6 so far.
