Ever cool actor/writer/director Amanda Walsh, who played Katie in the 2006 pilot, hits the big four zero today, October 3rd.

Here's wishing Amanda a totally amazing birthday!

You know I have to feel a little bad for her, it has to be hard on someone to do a pilot that is not accepted, only to see the character they played being changed, them replaced, and then the show becoming one of the biggest hits in the history of TV.

I don't feel so bad for her. Sure we'd all like to have Kaley Cuoco's millions, but who has the better life - Cuoco or Walsh?  I'll bet that Amanda Walsh can go to a bar, go on holiday, or hold onto a relationship, all without paparazzi slithering about in the bushes or fanboys camping on her lawn.

 

Anyway, Amanda Walsh seems to be really philosophical these days about losing the role. She discusses it in a charming and informative interview with Erica Ehm from earlier this year. She now sees the 2006 pilot in terms of giving her a "good Hollywood story." Apparently the pilot's famous director James Burrows later consoled her with the story about how Lisa Kudrow was axed after making a pilot for Frasier. I'm told that Kudrow went on to become famous in some other show...

 

Weird trivia - I believe that Jodi Lyn O'Keefe also tried out for the Katie role. So she went from potential lead female to playing Mikayla the prostitute, a bit part in  'The Vegas Renormalization'. That's showbusiness for you!

Yeah, these aren’t going to happen.  Kaley’s house is somewhere in the community of Hidden Hills which, like her previous residence, is within a gated community.  Hidden Hills is well known for containing quite a few celebrities, and they take their security there seriously.  Kaley also posts quite a few images of her and her friends out enjoying themselves, without the paps nosing around.

I don't see why Amanda Walsh seem to be sad over something she had no control over. How many A listers have been rejected and lost to potential huge roles. 

Plus fame and money, success for the actress Kaley shouldn't have Amanda feel bad. Sucess is not guranteed to everyone in every chosen role

Success is not guaranteed, but it's still sad when you miss out. Hopefully she's not resentful as well.

I don't believe she would be resentful of Kaley. If I recall correctly  Kaley was rejected on the first audition as being too young for the role. One year later when they re-did the pilot she auditioned again at the request of Chuck Lorre and got the part. She was only 21 at the time and when the show was wrapped 12 years later she was 33. So Kaley and Penny's age coincided.

I was thinking more of her being resentful of Chuck Lorre and the production crew.

It wasn't Chuck Lorre, it was the network that axed her.  AAMOF, everyone except Johnny and Jim were axed the the show retooled (not to mention their apartment was axed as being too dark).   Amanda fit Katie better than Kaley did and Penny was awfully close to Kaley personality.

Well,  one thing for sure. When they retooled, they got it right.
