Sheldon gets stuck on a physics problem and ends up going a little crazy. Leonard has no choice but to commit him to a mental hospital for a couple weeks. At first Sheldon is angered by his friend's betrayal, and hates everything about his new surroundings. But after bonding with the other crazy patients, he decides he doesn't want to leave. Finally, it surprisingly ends up being Penny who is able to convince him to come back home.

This should have happened after 3x14 The Einstein Approximation

I am Vietnam veteran (USMC, 1967-69). I was in grad school (1973-76). During that time I experienced many of the angsts so well satirized in the show. I have a sincere empathy for the characters in the show.

I have a nephew serving in the army (going career), so far more than 10 deployments.

I would suggest the introduction of a Iraq of Afghan vet. This would introduce a character will real world, rather than "virtual world," experience.

Another option would be a cousin or nephew of Sheldon (lots of Texans in the service) or Penny. If the Penny option is used, the visiting nephew/cousin could crash at her apartment and force Leonard to decamp. He or she (!) is passing through and/or crashing at the apartment.

These characters would highlight the educational opportunities as well veteran leadership skills, i.e. the willingness to make a decision. I realize this sounds like a public service announcement, but trust me, veterans have a sense of humor.

Just a thought.

Semper Fi,

Robert Scott

While I respect your experiences and perspectives, I don't think the show exists in order to highlight the educational opportunities , etc., for veterans or any other groups.

I think the point is simply to put these characters in funny situations from whence comedy can occur.  They might touch on a deeper issue now and then (bullying, insecurity, loneliness), but the primary aim is comedy and comedy based on the experiences of these particular people.

In the new season, after the death of Howard's mom. Henry Winkler appears as howards father (arthur wolowitz), who has been away working out a theory that has been driving Sheldon crazy for years. After a breakthrough,  Henry Winkler comes back into howards life unaware that he was consumed for so many years. Working out his solution. He has alot of the same characteristics of sheldon such as OCD. When he tracks Howard down,  the gang is at the comic book store. Howard and his dad reunite in the corner of the store where Howard's mother's furniture is. Henry Winkler recognizes the furniture and Howard tells him to "sit on it." (Happy days reference) Sheldon idolizes him even though he has an engineering degree from a community college.

I have plenty more ideas to make this work hilariously with the series. Also, everything works out with the past seasons. Henry Winkler will be the perfect person to play the character of Mr. Wolowitz. And a great addition to the existing cast fitting right in perfectly.

The Mile High Club Simulation

Howard finds out that NASA has implemented a new pilot skill assessment program such that only scientists & engineers with the best pilot skill performed on a simulator will be accepted as astronauts. This sets in motion for all of them to learn pilot skills to compete for a spot as an astronaut. Sheldon converts their living room into a full scale 747 simulator to practice with Amy & Penny as stewardesses for realism. Leonard & Raj take private pilot lessons in a cessna while their instructor has a heart attack on their first lesson and they call Sheldon who has to hack into the cessna's flight system via satellite to land it remotely. The episode ends with the cessna being flown remotely and losing control on final approach To Be Continued .... Next episode Stuart walks in on Sheldon because he was late for his Co=Pilot role and it turns out Stuart has been a 25 year microsoft flight simulator PC hobbyist and he expertly recovers the stall/spinning aircraft and lands it perfectly as like a professional pilot. Then the airport air traffic controllers who witnessed the landing want Stuart hired as an emergency remote landing pilot ..... but really the government wants him for flying drones in Iraq.

New episode: The group as a whole decides to prank sheldon (maybe for april fools day) and make him think that in his sleep he slipped into an alternate dimension and woken up in a world where the relationships of everyone is all screwed up. For instance, maybe howard or stewart is now his roommate, raj is dating amy, and maybe penny is a stranger because Leonard was never there to ask her over to lunch, and Leonard is instead married to bernadette, or joyce kim, or leslie winkle?

Following their breakup,
Sheldon suggests to Amy that it be just friends.
Sheldon is conscious that he is not a good boyfriend. By suggesting to Amy being just his friend, Sheldon
believes that their relation will be the same that at the beginning.

This proposal will be an enormous hard blow for Amy. Indeed, the fact that Sheldon does not want of her as girlfriend will be a
failure for her. She will think that she will never have any future with Sheldon.
However, Amy will accept the proposal of Sheldon.(Amy will repel her sadness)

I do not imagine Amy to continue to have romantic dates. On the contrary, Amy will make the life
review and will draw the conclusion that her social interactions were inconclusive.
She will decide to cut herself off from the
outside world. She will concentrate on her work.

Raj and Emily introduce Sheldon to a friend of Emily's who shares Emily's special tastes. Sheldon gets the impression that it's something similar to his own nerd hobbies and agrees to go to her place to learn more. She imagines Sheldon's up for what she likes. Take it from there.

This is not actually an idea for an episode, but an idea for a skit inside and episode. July 4, 2016 will be the 240th anniversary of this country. It strikes me Sheldon will be pondering the 250th anniversary, in particular, what to call it. It seems that Latin, Greek and English are very non-specific about the name for a 250th anniversary and according to the Wiki post here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anniversary, a number of Ivy League schools are in disagreement about the term. This sounds like the hi-brow discussions that would enthrall our braniacs to take sides and discuss to endless humor for someone who knows how to write humor about such a thing. The options appear to be:

  1. Sestercentennial
  2. Semiquincentennial
  3. Bicenquinquagenary
  4. Quarter-millennial

and then there are citations from places like Brown, Princeton, etc. discussing different terms. I think it would be a hoot to throw in a sidebar about discussing this, perhaps even during a "Fun with flags" episode.

Sheldon and Amy have the relationship that Penny and Leonard have and vice versa.  After about 15 minutes or so, Amy wakes up, (Think it's her dream) Sheldon is laying beside her, she lays back down and snuggles up to him.  Sheldon smiles opens his eyes, sits up screaming...  It was only a dream!

Leonard begins to suspect Penny is cheating on him, because she disappears for an hour or so, at the same time and day, every week.

Eventually, he challenges her, and she reluctantly admits she's been taking cooking lessons.

Same as a Rumpole of the Bailey episode. He was taking dancing lessons.

There was also a The Good Life episode, where Tom and Barbara suspect Margo is cheating on Jerry.

Margo goes out, once a week, dressed for horse riding, but Tom and Barbara spot her going into a town center flat, above a shop.

Turns out Margo has been attending a keep fit/weight loss class, without telling Jerry.

the Footprints on the Moon duo is floundering until they discover that Sheldon is a piano virtuoso, but all he can play is classical until he gets a drink on then it is boogie-woogie and soul that he learned at Texas gospel church that his Me-ma took him to as a youth. - It would reason that Sheldon should be great at music but he would dismiss it as primeval and hedonistic, which is why he never told anyone and no telling who touched the piano keys before him. They beg Sheldon to join but  Amy becomes Yoko Ono. Of course he would want to be the leader of the Prints to the frustration of Raj and Howard and control the direction and venue. He would make T-shirts for the Band "Sheldon and the Footprints" with his face superimposed over Neil Armstrong and Raj and Howard's faces would be in the footprints. But when it is learned Bernadette can play as well and Penny can sing and draw an audience the band is dissolved, but Penny gets a recording agent. (Can you get Paul McCartney to do a cameo?)

it comes out that Stewart is suspected of being a serial killer by the police. and it dramatically changes his life for the better. People start going to the Comic Book store just to see him, and start paying attention to him. He even gets a girlfriend who's really into that sort of thing. It could even run as a background story over several episodes and so viewers are actually wondering is he or isn't he really a serial killer. Hint he may actually have killed Mrs. Wolowitz for example.

How could he have possibly killed Mrs. Wolowitz?  She died in her sleep while she was visiting her sister (?) in Florida.  And Stuart was opening up his comic book store in California.

Quite. Also Sheldon took part in the guys' playing at being a band, and we heard his ghastly duet with Beverly Hofstadter.

Considering musical performances, here's an episode I'd like to see, which falls in the general category of Leonard Making a Bit of a Damn Effort For Once:
(in summer) Leonard tells Penny he's taking her out to dinner, but when they leave the apartment leads her upstairs instead of down. On the roof he has set up a folding table and chairs with a cold dinner and a bottle of sparkling wine, and his cello. (Also perhaps an unobtrusive mattress). While Penny drinks wine, Leonard plays some romantic tunes he has learnt to play on the cello. I think The Tennessee Waltz would probably sound pretty good on the cello. To be a bit more ambitious, maybe the saxophone part of Body and Soul.

It wouldn't be particularly funny, but it would be kind of nice. And gives Leonard another side.

Of course, KC's facial acting would largely carry the scene.

I'm pretty sure I watched that scene on Frasier.
