I seriously hate Amy Farrah Fowler

Recommended Posts

He also didn't stop Amy from kissing him, basically conceding to his role as one half of a couple.

I'm not so sure. She is a girl, she's his friend, but she's not his 'girlfriend' (to quote Sheldon). Remember his reaction when Leonard said "You can't say that any longer"? Yes, he recognises the relationship, and I agree that relationships don't have to be sexual. I see them more as good friends with plenty in common. I definitely think Amy is warming more romantically to him, but I'm not convinced the feelings are reciprocal. He didn't freak out at the kiss, but he did want to 'reboot' their friendship afterwards.:icon_cheesygrin:

She is a girl' date=' she's his friend, but she's not his 'girlfriend'[/quote']

That was early on in the season, though. I think that the constant pressing has worn him down into thinking "Yeah, why not? Let it be what it is."

Female Sheldons simply don't exist. She's an awful character on so many levels - but the long and the short of it is she isn't even vaguely believable as a character - Sheldons are, by default, men! Add to that the fact her delivery is contrived and her mannerisms aren't in any way natural and you have a 'show ruiner' on your hands. Get rid, and get rid sharpish!!! She's not funny, she's annoying, she's spoiling the Sgheldon character and more importantly RUINING my favorite sit com :-(

Ok, 'Female Sheldons' do exist, but their Aspergers-esque peccadilloes are markedly different to 'Male Sheldons'. That is to say real life 'Female Sheldons' don't behave like 'Male Sheldons' ;-)

Sorry for going O/T.

To me you seem to have a poetic/artistic style and there is a degree of artistic license associated with this.

However, the term "peccadilloes " in this context is misleading when applying it to base characteristics related to autism.

I agree with you that male and female AS individual tend to have slightly different character traits, one being they tend to have a greater ability to socially blend in.

Cheers,

Peter...

It is true though, that if anyone can correct Sheldon it's Amy (with the exception of his mother)

"Correct Sheldon"?

There is nothing wrong with him...

He is simply an ultra-individual.

There is a general belief that Einstein and Newton were high functioning austistic. Was there a need to "correct" them? ;)

Amy doesn't bother me and adds to the series to a degree.

It was nice to see Sheldon and Amy study the odd neurologically typical humans (i.e. the rumour generation/dissemination experiment).

It was satisfying to see Sheldon not having to contend with a (to him) foreign, arbitrary and confusing social protocol when interacting with Amy.

Cheers,

Peter...

Quite right - the word I was looking for was "idiosyncrasies" - doh! I'm not trying to trivialize the base characteristics associated with autism or aspergers. Just saying that they manifest in idiosyncratic ways - and that the particular idiosyncratic manifestations differ between males and females.

As such, I don't think a "Female Sheldon" (very high functioning woman on the borderline of the Aspergers spectrum) would behave in a way that was superficially all that similar to a "Male Sheldon". Hence my assertion that "Female Sheldons don't naturally occur in nature" making the original character of Amy (before they made the mid-season effort to make her a bit more believable) pretty unrealistic, and to me, simply not believable in the slightest.

I probably used the word "correct" in the wrong context... I was referring to Amy being able to correct Sheldon's verbal comments (ie when he says something he probably shouldn't), not his physical makeup as such.

I don't think anyone could change Sheldon's physical makeup... he's one crazy whackadoodle :D

Yep, touche. But... female Sheldon(s)? There is but ONE Sheldon, and that's the Sheldon we know and love!

I'm still on the fence about Amy. But Season 4's back on in the UK... so I gotta catch up.

@Seph: can't remember which thread I said it on, but I'll repeat myself here quickly... I actually came to like Amy a lot more towards the end of season 4.

They kinda toned her down a little as the season progressed. See what you think.

She becomes one of the gang, without being quite as "full on" with her comments. I think the ep with her getting drunk was a turning point for me with regards to me liking her a little more.

I'm not a fan of Amy or Bernadette, I like the old school episodes where they either weren't in the series or had minor roles... Amy went from being Sheldon equal to a nagging average everyday G/F that brings the show down. Bernadette has no flaws, shes just a G/F with a high pitched voice. Seasons 1 thru 4 were great, its been downhill this season if you ask me and its cause of those two.

I don't understand why everyone hated Priya.. I loved when her and Sheldon got into arguments over the roommate agreement, plus shes a great rival for Penny. You people are telling me you'd prefer more Bernadette who offers nothing to the show besides being Howards annoying g/f???

I think a lot of people saw Priya as a threat to Penny. Also Priya's attempts to "change" Leonard didn't go down well with the fanbase.

I think Priya's narcissistic personality could help pave the way for Leonard to really stand up for himself down the road to shed his total nerd side. I'm telling you Priya added more to the show then we want to give credit. Plus we got more Raj's parents when she was around and they were also hilarious. The less Amy and Bernadette, the better.

Bernadette does have flaws -- for example, she hates children. She also has a dark side that we've only seen very brief glimpses of. She is pretty driven professionally, even at the expense of her personal relationship with Howard. But she's a cool addition, IMO, because she's both smart and beautiful and can hold her own with the guys. Unlike Priya, though, Bernie respects the others' nerdom and doesn't try to distance herself from it, and unlike Amy, she doesn't feel the need to prove that her field of study is somehow more important.

Guest I'm not dead Cheryl

no, it wouldn't have been cancelled but been a bit more stalled? definitely. There is just so many times that you can cycle Penny on all the girl storylines, and so many times that you can bring 1 episode female guest stars until the show starts to feel like TAAHM
