netmouse Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I love that TBBT doesn't do the traditional over the top Christmas episodes that some other sitcoms do. It's nice that they just slip xmas into the script without making the entire show revolve around it. Having said this, it can make a potential xmas episode feel a little "empty" In particular, when Leonard's mother visits and Penny takes her out and gets her drunk. They could have quite easily left the xmas theme out of this episode entirely and still made it work. The Leonard Nimoy napkin xmas episode, however, worked well without being too over the top on Kris Kringleness.
Alien94 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Yeah, almost every show has Xmas and Halloween special,it's getting a bit old!
BazingaGirl Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I love Christmas, but it is over commercialised and it doesn't help when every second show does the obligatory Christmas ep. The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis was great though, just enough of the Christmas spirit without being OTT. And they made a great point about not over-commercialising it. Penny gave Sheldon something that money can't buy. For that matter, Sheldon's hug was something money can't buy either.

netmouse Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 I think the series runs fine without regular holiday themed episodes. Hoping the writers don't go the way of The Simpsons or Roseanne where you end up with 27 Halloween episodes. Although, the Roseanne Halloween eps were always awesomely gruesome and hilarious. (thinks back to Darlene's 'The Birds' costume)
Cheekydevil Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 In regards to the hug Penny receives off Sheldon after giving him his xmas gift, when you watch the extras on the DVDs, Kaley says that when she heard about that story line she almost cried because its such a significant thing for Sheldon to do. netmouse Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Yeah, it's a really nice scene. Pomita and I have both commented on how lovely it was in the "Human side of Sheldon" thread. When you watch that scene you can clearly see that Kaley is so totally enjoying the moment. I'm sure there are a few female members here who would have happily traded places with her during that scene (/search BazingaGirl) :D
Master-Sephiroth Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I liked that ep.
JFCat Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 They have already set the percident that the boys are into cosplay as such holloween would be a very important holiday for them. X-mas not so much because; one is Jewish one is Hindu one had a socially vacant childhood and one doesn't understand the need for it. It was probably big is Penny's childhood though and her trying to teach it to the boys may be a story line.
