I think Penny is pretty but there is something about her that "isn't my type" I guess I like nerdy girls more like Amy and Bernadette.

I always liked Mayim Bialik and I was very happy to see her join the show.

But I do admit the show needs to stick close to its geeky roots!

There's something about Penny that wouldn't make The Big Bang Theory the The Big Bang Theory if she were gone though. I don't mind her, but I think it's because there hasn't been much change in her routine since Season 1 probably or since she dated Leonard and you expect she wouldn't do anything differently. I love how she does keep the girls together and it's hilarious how she can easily influence Amy and Bernadette. But I'd like see more of Penny grow as a person and not the usual routines.

And Mayim Bialik is perfect for the role and she's just lovely! :icon_cheesygrin:

I like Amy on the show, as long as she doesn't get a huge amount of time. I like her here and there and not always involved in main storylines. I agree that having the 4 guys and their geekiness front and center is best. I would even be OK with Penny taking more of a back-burner role from time to time. I think more antics with just the guys would be great.

Completely agree. But the fact is that their stories, as a group and as individuals, are dependant on these female characters. It always annoyed me, but its true that every synopsis or introduction of the show states that its about two geeks and their pretty neighbour across the hall... and the two other geeky friends, as opposed to this show is about four geeky friends.

I think Mayim Bialik is the ideal person to play the female half of The Shamy©, but they need to dial her down a notch or three. I'll give the dead horse a kick and say: enough with the awkward lesbian jokes.

I'll also agree with the idea that the show is about Sheldon, Leonard and Penny, but that train left the tracks by the end of season 3.

Hi, I love Amy and especially when she has had a few and tries to crack onto Sheldon, she is hilarious.

Amy is really creepy (she may be Sheldons female version but she just doesn't have the overall cuteness to pull it off and make her likable to me). Please don't make her a main character. The 2nd season was absolutely amazing :(. Amy is really taking the joy out of a lot of scenes in the 5th season.

Ok some people like amy this is adressed to you would you prefer a) thing stay the same as currently or B) they don't cut amy she just becomes the 7th character (leonard sheldon penny howard raj bernadette amy) in order of importance she's sometimes good "I have a tiara" but terrrible in high make her less important no sexual penny jokes, and perhaps break up with sheldon?

Much like Sheldon, if Mayim Bialik & thee writers can keep her character from becoming a clown, a charicature if you will, then keep Amy. Unfortunately, judging from the state of Sheldon this season, that is the very road Amy is on. I point you to the bird episode of earlier this season. An entire episode of Sheldon shoo-ing away a bird. Really?

Amy is certainly not destroying the show. I don't want to see any Amy centered episodes and prefer her as a supporting character, but she doesn't take anything away from the show. Amy serves as a method for the writers to develop Sheldon's character in ways that are not possible without a female counterpart. I don't think she really adds anything to the girl part of the show, and it is usually those scenes that become tedious. But, I also don't particularly enjoy the Penny - Bernadette scenes either if they don't have include any of the guys. Amy's all right. In the right scenes and in managed doses.

Did you guys know that they mentioned Mayim from Blossom in an episode during season 1? I'm sure this has probably already been discussed somewhere, but I saw it the other night and thought it was funny that they mentioned her.

It is ironic that Raj mentioned her being on the Physics Bowl team and she later shows up on the show. :icon_biggrin:

That was obvisouly a confidence that she came on.

Well she's taking away at times from the main cast and with numerous Amy episodes she's pushing them to the side, I just don't like when she's the focus and it should be the whole cast.

Perfect for Sheldon? How he won't even touch her or let her touch him, they're boyfriend/girlfriend on paper only.

I would be little concerned if they got rid of Amy. Alarm bells would certainly sound because you can bet your bottom dollar they would give him another girlfriend. A 'normal' girl would ruin the character. He'd have to learn to be a 'proper' boyfriend. Week after week of compromise and growing. It makes me shudder at the thought. Amy preserves Sheldon and change is painstaking slow. I'd just prefer that.

He does let her touch him. And she understands his reasons for not wanting to do more. It may frustrate her, but she understands.

A 'normal' girl would not understand or accept Sheldon's behaviors or attitudes. She would try to change him the same way Priya tried to change Leonard.

If a normal gf would ruin Sheldon then what is happening to him now.

The grad students sure had no problem wanting him and if he let someone like penny in then why wouldn't he let someone else as well.

Cbolt, with full respect, but for someone who is all the time bashing Leonard because "all he wants is sex", you surely give too much relevance to the physical aspect of the Sheldon/Amy relationship :icon_wink:

From your comments I understand there are some things you simply don't want to see/accept, and It's okay, your choice. But there are other people out there (like me) that can see the hints of genuine affection/love they are developing. They have good communication, share interests and care for each other, he doesn't want other men around Amy, feels the obligation to take care of her, asks for her opinion and is even willing to apologize because he wants to continue being her boyfriend. They are as good as any other couple (in fact, they are the most balanced couple of the series, IMHO), practically their only lack is the physical aspect. Once I read a quote (not sure if from Lorre or Steve Molaro) that said something like: "They have a real relationship, just not a sexual one"

As HeWolf said, he has no problem with Amy's touch, except when it comes to sex (he let her hold her hand, doesn't freak out at her kisses, danced with her). It's nothewhorty that the only one that ever attempted to get close to him this way is Amy, so, it's not fair to say that it's something he has against her, or that he doesn't really love her, because there's no point of comparison. I'll bet that, if any other woman/person tried to make sexual advances on him, his reactions would be the same or much worse.

I think the writers are slowly leading to some more physical affection between them, I'm not saying right into sex (it would be too shocking). They are taking their time with them. Sheldon has been rejecting touching and emotional attatchment for 30 years, he's not gonna turn into a sex-machine overnight, it wouldn't be believable and would go directly against the character.

And you said he had let other women enter his life, for one reason or another, that's true, but the only one he has cared enough to want to make her his girlfriend is Amy. That's telling, don't you think?

As I said, you are in your full right to dislike Amy and to think she is ruining Sheldon, I completely disagree. I really like her, by herself, and I think her relationship with Sheldon makes things more interesting and fun.

For one I speak the truth and Leonard admitted that, Amy is ruining sheldn the bird episode is an example who he really be doing something as ridiculous as that season 1-3, as for the girlfriend question is because penny pushed him in that direction and he probably he would also lose her as a friend, and yeah the reason they get along is because they are so alike, and it would not be believeable he told her I love you now they might as well have sex right after that, I think he doesn't look at her like that and if she's not being crude to penny she's being crude to someone else, and when they break up if they hinting is any clue I'll be the first one on here saying I told you so.

As for ruining the Sheldon character all I have to say is - "Fun with Flags". The defense rests.
