Funnier than > insert character is actually a matter of opinion and subjective perception not a fact.

For me, even though I love Penny with all my heart, she is certainly the least funny of all the characters on the show. That doesn't make her a worst character or means that I hate her or anything like that.

Amy is to me the funniest character on the show, even funnier than Sheldon maybe because she has that absolute awkwardness and social unawareness that Sheldon has coupled with the fact that she is a girl and tries to act girly and cool but failing miserably. That is very funny and endearing to me. But then again, it is MY OPINION. And Mayim's performance on this role made me love this character as I do.

I couldn't possible love Amy as much as I do if she was played by another actress (the same way I feel about Jim/Sheldon). Mayim has been acting since she was a little kid and has filmed next to people like Woody Allen, Michael J Fox, Bette Middler, Jennifer Aniston, and so on. I don't think anyone can say she is a bad actress (not objectively at least), and I do see as plausible for her to get an Emmy nomination, specially after reading SO many critics acclaiming her performance. She was even Variety's ONLY female actress on their Emmy hopeful's list this year.

I just don't understand why saying this causes the rant over Penny/Kaley. No one is attacking her or hating her or anything. I would be thrilled if Kaley was nominated for a major award. BUT I still think Mayim's work is excellent and honestly, deserving of at least an Emmy nomination. SPECIALLY since she is a supporting character. And yes, she only had TWO storylines this year that focused on her. The rest were Sheldon storylines where she was only there as his foil. She missed some episodes and in some of them, she barely had a line or two. And yet still, she totally owned the episodes where she was featured, and stole the show too (specially Shiny Trinket.. she only had two scenes and yet one of them is the one EVERYBODY remembers of that episode).

And again, it is MY opinion. And some people might think differently but it's OK, because it is an OPINION

I love Amy. She is my favorite character on the show. Although she can be very peculiar at times, the show is better with her. I especially love the relationship between Sheldon and Amy. I don't understand how some of you think she's "ruining the show" but I guess some of you have different opinions of different people. I just think that the addition of Amy and Bernadette balances the characters. (just one more lady for Raj!).http://forum.the-big-bang-theory.com/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

I do not care for the Amy character all that much especially when she keeps hitting on Penny. I am not saying that the actress is bad, she plays the character as she is directed to. She is a good foil for Sheldon, but frankly I don't think that the show would miss her very much if she was written out of it and not replaced. She is a minor character IMO, much like the owner of the comic book store.

I barely noticed her presence was gone the last two episodes(Spock and hawkings).

You're not going to make yourself popular by saying Amy is your favorite. The reason people don't like her as much for one she is over used, she is a minor character(or supposed to be) yet they try to make her into a major, she needs to be used or treated like Bernadette, and another thing is her behavior directed at Penny turns alot of people off.

Hey! It is just my my simple opinion. I'm just saying what I think. I understand why people dislike her as a character and maybe sometimes their point is right, but I'm pretty sure a lot of The Big Bang Theory fans love her, as do I. And speaking for all Amy- fanatics out there, I believe she's a great addition to the show!

Nope. The 'yoko factor' is used to describe when a newbie causes arguments within a group leading to the original group to fight and split up. Amy is simply a new character you do not like or deem necessary.

I agree with yummynummy, obviously. And even if I didn't, I have to say that no-one is entitled to make a blanket statement like 'you're not going to make yourself popular by' (liking/disliking a character). There's a full spectrum of opinions out here, and there are no rules. Everyone has company in what they feel. Please avoid trying to speak for the rest of us.

I definatly don't want to see amy cut a a character!!!She is really funny and I also love shamy.Although her comments towards penny are sometimes quite desturbing but I think it has become less frequent so she has evolved in a very funny character.

Some of the best episodes,in my opinion, are shamy based so to get rid of amy would really spoil the show for me.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes! Also, If Amy left the show, then there won't be much options of women characters for female TBBT fans to relate to :D

(Bernadette and Penny are sorta alike [not socially awkward like Amy]) :p

I stand by my comment just by the comments I read.

Well I doubt too many of the female viewers can relate to Amy or watch because of Amy.

And being the Yoko Ono is also a negative reaction from fans.

Nope. The 'yoko factor' is used to describe when a newbie causes arguments within a group leading to the original group to fight and split up. Amy is simply a new character you do not like or deem necessary.

Yoko's influence on John Lennon changed the internal chemistry and interactions of the main characters and led to the breakup. Amy's influence on Sheldon and her creepy obsession with Penny is changing the internal interactions of the core characters. Obsessive, arrogant, quirky, condescending, jousting-with-Penny Sheldon is funny. Tiara-buying, puppy-love, goofy, Fun-with-Flags Sheldon is not funny.

I can totally understand why the writers are going that direction. They're bored with writing for the same characters, they love Mayim Bialak and they want to try something different. And I'm sure the actors want to stretch their acting talents also. My point is that the changes are just not as funny as the original concept of the show - four geeks interacting with a beautiful dunce.

It's just my honest opinion, there's no right or wrong answer.

Well the yoko would be aimed more at Amy than Mayim

Yes, that's why I said "Amy is the Yoko Ono of TBBT". I have nothing against the actress. I just don't like the influence her character is having on the show.

Again, you're making assumptions. No-one did a statistical survey of how many people relate to Amy or not. And the present TV ratings scream of public acceptance of the show in its present form - which includes a pretty heavy dose of Amy.

Now that's a valid opinion, even if I don't agree with it.

By the way, I don't see Amy's influence on Sheldon changing his interactions with the other core characters to the slightest degree. He's just as condescending/quirky/arrogant with Leonard, Penny, Howard and Raj now as he always was. The only thing that has changed is his relationship with Amy herself.

Guest I'm not dead Cheryl

well, I love Amy, I do think she adds another dimension to the show. She is funny and endearing. Amy is the character that turned me from a fan to a total fan, and the episodes that had a big dose of Amy both Season 4 and 5 have been my favorites. To me, she is a breath of fresh air to the show.

So whateaver, I do know there is people who do not like her and they have their resons, some I find valid, some of them I don't but it's ok, because we are all different here.

And as for Amy "ruining" the show, of course I do not agree at all, if only she is making it better for me...

@hot dense - what makes that response even better is that it happened in the coffee shop scene of their first meeting. :)

Well about the ratings is more about the show as a whole not because Amy.

My point is that Amy is a major part of the show now (more so in season 5 than in season 4). And while some people don't like that, her presence is clearly affecting the ratings in a positive rather than negative way. It may be because of her or in spite of her, we don't know. I suspect the former.

I don't have any regrets that Amy is a part of the show. I believes she has worked her way in quite well with the other characters. I think it is quite amusing how she has been incorporating her new found social interactions with Penny and Bernie. It it something that has been bottled up within her for years. It's funny to see her let loose once in a while, as long as she doesn't completely change her character. It is also amusing to see Sheldon's reactions to her changes. Lets remember, she has a degree in neurology in real life. That makes it all the more better. The only girls that I believe would have been the real Yoko Onos (No disrespect to John Lennon there, as I am also a big Beatles fan) to the show would have been Alicia and Pria.

Amy does bring something different to the show but the writers need to remember she is a minor character. To grasshopper Alicia could not been yoko when she was only on one episode.

@grasshopper -- that is a good point that they don't need to completely change amy's character. there's nothing wrong with her loosening up some from having friends and changing some from being exposed to new things, but she doesn't need to lose who she is. that would bother me, because that seems to what happens sometimes when girls get in a group of friends. there is pressure to conform and be like everyone else (like the cliques in high school).
