Why didn't the writers have Amy and Sheldon go as Batman and Robin, Princess Leia and Han Solo or Spock and T'Pring/Uhura - Amy trying to initiate Pon Farr in the Tardis could have been a hoot, instead we have C3PO with a red wig; pathetic. Penny & Sheldon would definitely argue & fight and then have gone as a couple out of Firefly or Dr. Who, or most probably Catwoman and Batman easy peasy, she likes to dress up & play: she's an actress. They had him go as Raggedy C3PO because it was funnier and more obviously ridiculous--and this is a comedy. Penny ans Sheldon wouldn't have gone as a couple from anything because they aren't a couple and wouldn't want to go as a couple. Penny and Sheldon aren't going to be written as a couple and they certainly don't have any feelings outside what the writers intend them to have--that is, Penny and Leonard love each other and Sheldon and Amy love each other. Penny is the only one who didn't wanna go to the costume party in the first place. They didn't go as any of those because the whole point of Raggedy Ann and Raggedy C3PO was that it was a compromise between the two of them. None of what would be considered the normal "couples" were anything they could both agree on. In the end they both got at least partially what they wanted from the couple costumes. Amy got to be a character that she favored and Sheldon got to be a character he favored. Penny and Sheldon would have fought and then not gone, or at least Penny(she didn't even really want to go in the first place anyway)wouldn't have gone and Sheldon would probably have just went stag. The difference being again that Amy is the only character Sheldon willingly makes concessions to when it comes issues like this. He still fights her over it but eventually he'll compromise because at the end of the day(deep down)he doesn't want to potentially do anything that will keep Amy mad at him and potentially out of his life. Unlike his other relatioships with the other characters, he has the deepest emotional investment in his relationship with Amy. A large part of the comedy of Sheldon's character these days is watching him try to come to grips with this, the very nature of his feelings for Amy largely goes against who Sheldon has always seen and believed himself to be. But Amy has stired a core fundemental change in Sheldon. Before Sheldon would never have needed validation from a peer of his, he never would have cared someone he knew approved of him or not. Now he not only needs Amy's approval he'll compromise and make concessions to get it he doesn't think he'll be able to keep it otherwise. That's how important Amy has become to him in the two years he's known her. When it comes to Penny. He's never given her that level of consideration. She's never meant that much to him and the one time he did apologize to her was only because he got a verbal spanking from his mom over the phone. Had Leonard not given Penny the secret weapon(Mary Cooper's phone number)their little war would have only escalated. Other than that he's never been concerned over whether or not Penny likes him or is mad at him. It's a complete non issue for him. I'll whole-heartedly agree what watching Sheldon and Penny fight is entertaining and is ripe for great comedy. But it's just that...comedy. It's not meant to be taken as some secret attraction, it's not meant to be taken as these two harbor some deep emotional connection and last but certainly not least, it has not been written that way on the show. It was Leonard who insisted they go together and Amy who wanted the couples costume. If they had an argument it would have been where they were going. Penny would not have wanted to hang out with her ex-boyfriend Leonard or run into her ex-friend Amy. She might have forced him go out with her friends instead, which would have been a lot worse for Sheldon than forcing him to wear the raggedy wig. I get that some fans are fixated with shenny but trying to envision the storys with the couples swapped out is pointless because it was written for the couples as they are. Theres no way Sheldon and Penny would have gone in a 'better' couples costume. If they even went at all, it would be sexy cop and C3PO. And there would be no making out in the Tardis either. It makes as much sense as saying that in the commercial that she did, they had the character played by Penny riding a horse, they had "tremendous chemistry" between them, and that Penny would be moving the horse up to her apartment in the near future. Sexy cop is pretty good on her and in character IMO. @ Pomita and bigbangsheldon Hmmm, just as long as it's not another drag costume again. I prefer his stetson and spurs myself. DPK Posted October 28, 2012 Share Posted October 28, 2012 The Wall-E and Eve theme doesn't work for Sheldon and Penny. Despite Wall-E's awkwardness and unfamiliarity with social conventions of his world, he was very emotional and become unapologetically attached to Eve right away. Eve found him charming because despite his awkwardness at his core he was always very kind and gental towards her. So Eve eventually becoming just as attached to him was not only credible but worked within the context of the story as it was told. That doesn't even come close to matching how Sheldon and Penny have been established on the show. Sheldon may be awkward and inept socially like Wall-E but he also lacks the warmth and charm that Wall-E had. He certainly isn't kind and gental towards Penny most of the time the way Wall-E was toward Eve. He constantly mocks her intellect, her backround, and her dispostion to physical affection. He has rare moments of kindness and civility toward Penny but the only thing that is ever going to lead them to at best is being friends. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Superlovelexi Posted October 29, 2012 Share Posted October 29, 2012 I love WALLE, but I think Leonard is more like WALLE than Sheldon, WALLE was lonely on a planet full of garbage (Something on principle would scare the crap out Sheldon because of his hatred of germs he'd never want to be on earth alone with nothing but trash) But WALLE was alone until he found his one true love then pursues relentlessly until she realizes he's the one. That is more like Leonard. I don't think Penny is much like Eve. Eve was a very driven robot on a mission to follow her directive no matter what until she finally fell in love. Penny never really tries very hard to follow her goal of becoming an actress. I love the costumes they choose Rageddy Ann and Rageddy C3P0 but i also think it would be cute if Sheldon came as C3P0 and Amy as Princess Leia. I mean she loves the idea of being a princess and I bet she look super cute with her hair up in those big side buns even though she doesn't like Star Wars I think a Princess Leia costume would look good on Amy. Or They could have come as Madam Curie and her husband who died of radiation poisioning, for some reason I think Amy would still find that romantic and Sheldon seems to like Madam Curie cause he talks about her quite a bit. Penny looked Hot as a Sexy Cop, and I think Slutty Cop would have been too porn star looking. I'd like to see Leonard wear something sexy as costume for a change instead of Albert Einstien he could be a greek philosopher and wear only a toga.
