- Episodes 1&2; Penny gets pressure from Leonard to address her feeling for him. She almost opts for another breakup but decides to stay with him.

- Episode 3; Penny is faced with a possible rival and decides she wants to play keep away with him.

- Episode 4; Penny is completely integrated into the game night game culture with her boyfriend. His world is now hers.

- Episode 5; Penny's silly "Leonard is there to make me happy" philosophy is challenged and she discovers much to her delight, why she wants Leonard in her life.

- Episode 6; Penny faces her biggest obstacle, her feeling of inferiority to Leonard because of their education levels. Her handling is a work in progress but unlike season two, she gets mad but does not even consider a breakup.

Sorry for triple-posting btw.

What do you mean with this (the bolded)? His world is now hers? Please tell me what you meant with it, cause i'm really curious =)

Dont know how that bold type happened. It was not in my original text. None of these events is more emphasized then the others.

Nono, I bolded it. I'm just curious as to what you meant with it. I haven't managed to interpret anything from the L/P relationship in that episode.

Would you mind telling me what you figured out? In what way is "his world now hers", and how did you see it?

Leonard and Penny breaking up is "probably for sure"? I don't think that it is probable and certainly not for sure. It seems to me that this season they started with Penny being bored with Leoarnd and taking him for granted to her working her way to to appreciating and respecting him. I thnk that it is fairly obvious that the writers are not working towards another break up between Penny and Leonard, but towards Penny telling Leonard that she loves him too. I know that this ruins all of the fantasies that the Shenny shippers have, but that is something that was never going to happen.

When the show started, Penny was an outside observer of the two nerds across the hall and their two friends, She was both mystified and amused about their strange world, she had her own friends and activities that were so different from this nerd life.

On the very first show, she captivated one of the nerds, Leonard, who fell hopeless in love with her. She needed help and asked Leonard to first allow her to use his shower and to get her TV from her brutish boyfriend. Over the objections of Sheldon, Leonard agreed to both request. From that day on we saw Leonard start building "Pennyworld".

Pennyworld started out as a bridge between Penny's life and the nerds the purpose being to make her want to stay around Leonard. The incentive for Penny was first free stuff, Food, WiFi, tech help, etc. There was also added emotional support and constant ego stroking. In the real world, Penny is a loser who has succeeded at nothing and treated as a disposable bimbo by any man of means. In Pennyworld, she is Queen as she has been called several times over the years, including in the last episode. She has a loving consort and ladies of her court. The only person not treating her as the Queen is Sheldon, who constantly reminds her of her actual status in life.

Penny has become so spoiled by Pennyworld she makes these odd statements, like Leonard's job is to make her happy and her job is to let him do so. Or becomes exasperated that she knows that Leonard will be supportive, happy and proud that she took a college class. Even Amy found that weird.

Penny seems to be only semi aware of her life in this bubble but she knows she likes it. When she broke up with Leonard at the end of season three she realized that life without being completely in Pennyworld (oddly, she never was all the way out) was painful. She could not stand to see Leonard treat Priya with such respect especially since Priya seemed more deserving.

The biggest reason Penny will not break up with Leonard again is that her ladies of her court are pointing out this season how amazingly fortunate her circumstance is. She has earned none of these privileges on her own and she rewards the builder of her happiness with sex when she is especially pleased. No way Penny is leaving her little Queendom because she is not going to get this from anyone else but Leonard.

Brilliant answer, mate. Appreciated! I haven't thought of it this way, but you sure as hell have a point here!

This is a very interesting post and I agree.

But I also think that this season is building toward a shift in this current paradigm. I think a large part of Penny's insecurities and this most recent episode really highlighted it, is that Penny is aware or becoming aware that outside of the bedroom she's brings little to the relationship. When you actually look at it Leonard has more power economically, professionally, and ironically....socially. Leonard has more money, actually has a solid career that he enjoys and going by what the show shows us that Penny's social circle almost now consists soley of "his kind". These are all things that Leonard has brought into her life. The only place that Penny has any real power in the relationship is the sexual portion of it which goes a long why to explaining why she utilizes sex so much when it comes to Leonard. She uses it to placate him, she uses it when she thinks she's going to lose his affections toward another women, she also uses it as a distraction from commiting to anything deeper emotionally.

All the barriers are slowing coming down for her. She obviously loves him and cares enough about him and the relationship that she wants to bring more to it than simply sex which is a large part of why she's so hesitant to say "ILY" to him. She really wants to be equal partners with him in all aspects but she's painfully aware that she's not. Which is why she hesitates and gets defensive when the issues of deeper commitment pop up between them. She's taking steps to remedy it, she's going back to school, she made an effort to understand who he is and what he does bettter than she had ever done so in the past. I expect the writers to continue to build on this as the season progresses.

As it pertains to Shenny, she would never question nor go through the agony and efforts that she is for Leonard for Sheldon. When Sheldon insults her intellect and career and just about anything else about her, she usually has a snappy comeback and really doesn't get overly rattled about it. When Leonard says something that might be construed in the same mannor she flips out and gets very emotional about it, the most recent episode highlighted this very thing. Why because unlike Sheldon she truely cares about how Leonard sees her. As much as people seem to get on Leonard's case for being needy/clingy, when it comes to Leonard, Penny is just as bad in this regard.

Which only furthor provides evidence that the writers aren't going the route of Shenny, not now and not down the road either.

BangerMain - very interesting analysis of 'Pennyworld'. But I also agree with DPK that this season is showing signs of their relationship moving into a more real phase, out of the idyllic dream world that Penny might have liked it to be in her mind. One by one, step by step, all of Penny's issues and the obstacles to real closeness between them are being exposed and talked about and (in some cases) dealt with.

I think that Penny does bring something to her relationship whith Leonard. Threre are many social situations where her knowledge helps Leonard, but more importantly I think that she makes Leonard move out of his comfort zone and experience new things. One fo the more important thngs, If you compare that Leonard of the first season with the present Leonard IMO there has been a tremendous growth in Leonard's self confidence.

As always, DPK, beautifully stated. And when we get an "ILY" from Penny, that would be the official stake in the heart for Shenny.

I little bit yeah. But Penny has become much more absorbed into his world than he has in hers. I would argue that Leonard's increased confidence falls primarily in the area of his interaction with women and that is more due to the physical affection he's received by her than anything she's taught him about interacting in "normal world". In fact when it comes to general day to day interactions Leonard's never really had much problems. Sheldon is the one who's the "special ed project" and the one who needs the most help in this area. The main area he's benefitted the most from Penny is when it comes to his interaction with women.

So true. They can't keep Penny in this dream world forever. She must have growth to be a complete partner for Leonard in the real world. As you said, they are slowly having her taking steps to address that time when she has to earn all this adoration and support because of her accomplishments and not because she gives the man in her life sex. But I think more of Leonard than that. His mother may think Leonard is using her as a sex toy but he has been concerned for her happiness even when he wasn't having sex with her. For all his faults, Leonard really does love Penny.

For all those who say that Leonard should have dumped Penny for some successful professional woman, he may get the last laugh for his dogged fidelity.

Indeed. The tables have definitely turned since season 3 when Leonard always looked the most likely to be "ditched", hence the american football-"party" at Penny's house, when Leonard embarrassed himself in front of both Penny and her friends.

Now Penny is the one who needs to address her problems more than Leonard, which is quite interesting. "Pennyworld" is falling apart, because she is beginning to realize that a realize demands more than just the sexual goods. While Leonard is (as stated before) more successful than her in almost all aspects of life, Penny is beginning to grow and understand that a relationship requires a certain give and take.

I really like how the writers are doing it. Season 6 FTW!

What I don't like though, is the lying Penny has introduced to the relationship. She is lying straight to his face, when she tells him that it was her paper, even though Bernadette and Amy helped her. A relationship with lies is the root to all evil.

I'm of two minds on this. While I'm not a fan of the lying, it does address a problem of Leonard's. For all the writers have done 'fixing' Penny this season, Leonard needs a few tweaks as well. Both Prady and Molaro have stated BOTH Penny and Leonard have some growing up to do. This last episode (The Extract Obliteration) covered an issue of both Penny and Leonard. As long as the lying doesn't become an all the time(or even a quarter of the time) thing for Penny, I can overlook it once like this as a plot device to help correct a problem of Leonard's.

Which doesn't seem very likely at all... the Sheldon trying to take Penny from Leonard part.

Your avatar's awesome tho.

I'm not sure what is making me smile harder - Vasu's avatar or Jean's signature. Oh, and MJ's perennial favorite sig is already there. This is getting unbearable. I'll have to give up reading and just stick to looking. :icon_redface:
