When Shamy finallly start doind 'it', they will be at 'it' all the time, and all over the place:

- The will be doing 'it' in the kitchen, on the spot, in the Cheesecake factory, and even on the streets!

And with 'it' I of course mean holding hands, the way lovers do.

Do you remember when Penny dislocate her arm in the tub? and when Sheldon helped her to dress up then he held by mistake her hmm, "front part" ... and she asked him: this look like my arm?? And he replied: no, I don“t think so. Then she told him: then you should take your hand off!!! (not exactly words) Here we can see he is not so "insensitive" ;)

I think it would be funny if he was updating the relationship agreement all along but not telling her about it. :p

I mean, why would Amy need to ever read it? After a year you'd definitely think she would know it.

Unless he updates it regularly, because that would be consistent with his character.

Yes, this should happen but not until the series finale and only if Sheldon is forced into it by circumstances or is accidentally drunk and has no recollection. This could be combined by having Amy threaten to leave several times over several episodes, she says she can't live the rest of her life without ever experiencing the touch of a man and then when the whole gang goes to Las Vegas for some reason, Amy gets Sheldon drunk along with getting herself drink and her plans to get Sheldon to be physically affectionate somehow accidentally lead to a legally binding drive through wedding. Just today i tread about how this actually happened to Jeanie Garafalo 20 years ago and she didn't realize her joke wedding was actually legal and she had to get a divorce so the guy could get married. Then maybe after Sheldon realized the wedding was legal he would feel out of a Texas style obligation that he must consummate the marriage. Another scenario would be Amy demanding a divorce if Sheldon refused to consummate the wedding. Perhaps Penny would provide the coaching to help them overcome their mutual sexual ignorance.

Well, now that I'm finally registered I can give my 2 cents.

Imo, I'd rather they did NOT do it than having them have sex drunk/intoxicated/with memory impairment. I do not think that's what Amy is meant to represent. She's not just a plot device to get him to finally succumb to lust just for laughs, I actually think there's a much deeper meaning in their relationship, with her being that one-of-a-kind woman who's of his own species. The exception to the rule, if you will. So if they do decide to do it, and I think it is very likely, it will be too monumental in terms of character growth to be cheapened for laughs. Even though it is a sitcom, they can still recognize when they need to be serious about stuff (think of Howard's apology to Bernadette last season). I do think however that it won't happen for a long time, although I do not necessarily think they need to wait until the very last episode: there's SO much comedy potential when these two finally do it that it would be a waste to leave it to the very end. I can only imagine how you could play it out with them, especially Sheldon, hiding it from the group, being teased by their friends, being caught red-handed etc. So much comedy gold right there. So I'm calling it some time between end of the penultimate and mid-way through the final season.

I also disagree with those who say that Sheldon having sex wouldn't be Sheldon anymore. First of all, I think there's more to what makes Sheldon Sheldon than his virginity. And secondly, I think it depends. Sheldon suddenly turning full-on heterosexual man and having sex with anyone would be out of character. But, again, this is Amy we're talking about. I really agree with Bill Prady (I think it was) when he said that this character is capable of things we haven't seen yet. We haven't seen them because he's never been put in the right situation: he has never met someone who he considers to be his intellectual equal, who he is not uncomfortable with and who he has an emotional attachment for. He isn't "changing" with everyone else, because everyone else isn't Amy. So it doesn't make sense to say "Sheldon would never do that", because this situation is one of a kind, so how Sheldon would function in the world outside this situation has only some relevance to how he functions with her. So going back to sex, I do think they could play the card of "He is just asexual, end of the story" and never have them have sex, and that would be reasonable and in-character. But I think there's a second interpretation for his lack of interest in the opposite (or same for that matter) sex: a ) he jumped straight from childhood to adulthood, so he never experienced a normal adolescence and b ) he never met anyone who he considers to be of his same "species". In this framework, it could very well lead to him sleeping with Amy eventually and at the same time be in character. All these jokes about him hitting puberty, Penny asking him about fuzz in weird places, him getting a testosterone level etc... I think they are actually a very accurate representation for what's going on.

In any case, whether they do do it or not, I think it's a sad state of affair when I hear people put their relationship in inverted commas just because they aren't physical. As if what makes a relationship "real" is whether sex is involved. I think their relationship is much more real than many others, fictional and non-fictional, and tip my hat to that. I really hope the writers keep up the good work with them, they have done an excellent job so far.

Of course there is more to Sheldon than his virginity. A lot more! I think the fact Jim is so gorgeous is making the audience want Sheldon to have sex and not anything to do with the actual character.Ā But the fact remains that whenever sex is mentioned, Sheldon doesn't have a clue what's going on! Amy has not pushed this but until the writers can convince me he has sexual desires he wishes to fulfil, sex with anyone will come across as distasteful.Ā I used to think, when both characters were more robotic in season 4, that they might get away with it in a 'matter of fact' kind of way but they changed Amy's character and that won't work now. Sheldon can not continue to be so painfully innocent if they want him to have sex and I'm not seeing any change in this. They want to milk this until the end I think, dragging out the longevity of the show.

Oh of course, that's a given that they need to start showing him having sexual desires, I'm in no way advocating they have sex with him still being aloof and innocent!** But considering the ratings this show is going to go on for 3 more years AT LEAST. Having Sheldon develop sexual desires already in S6 would be premature. If they had him develop sexual desires now they couldn't milk it for another 3+ years, or it would become ridiculous, they would need to have them have sex this season and then what? They turn into any other couple? So I'm not taking the fact that he is not yet showing any signs of sexual desires, in S6, as an indication that that will never happen. I do think they'll go down the "hit puberty" route later on, maybe next year, maybe the year after that. Jim did say he thinks it will eventually happen, "just not this year". And he's been very good at foreshadowing things so far.

This season seems to be very much about him discovering his feelings for her and his fears about her leaving him, that's enough to throw at him without adding sexual needs to the equation. And Amy is patient, she knows what she's in for, I don't think she will push it. In a sense, they're a gender-flipped adolescent couple: she's ready and he's not. But she loves him enough to wait, I think, because theirs is a relationship of the mind first and foremost.

**Although I do wonder how aloof and innocent he really is, he did say he has genitals that are "functional", I mean... How would he know that if he had no sex drive whatsoever? I like phantagrae's take on him being more like a monk than asexual. He has other things that are more important/appealing to him than sex so he just doesn't care about acting upon it.

Spook - I cannot tell you how much I agree with every point you have made. Especially this.

WHat I love about Sheldon and Amy is that their relationship has grown in a very healthy way. Amy may be chafing (ahem) with the desire to jump his bones, but the two of them have built a very strong bond based on friendship first. It's only now that they're just beginning to navigate the romantic aspects of their relationship and I love that they're not just hopping in the sack.

I've said before that they remind me of two junior-high kids, just beginning to experiment with the boyfriend/girlfriend dynamic. They're practicing with holding hands and date nights, but haven't yet gone down the more adult paths (heavy petting, etc.), mostly because of Sheldon's approach.

But I think that sooner or later he'll get there. I imagine that from the show's point of view they're going to want to take their time taking him in down that path because it would be such a game changer for the couple. However, I don't think that it will be the series finale, either. I think they just need to get the timing and the approach and the resolution just right because of the specialness of the characters and their relationship.

Not necessarily true....

I agree with phantagrae 100%. The fact that Sheldon & Amy are something so new a different than anything I've ever seen on TV before makes me love and appreciate them all the more. Their unique personalities and relationship is what makes me very curious about if, how and when they will do it. LOL...has nothing to do with looks for me at all (although, there's no denying Jim's a cutie). It's their oddness that draws me in 100%....because I'm odd myself. LOL.

Yeah but if Shelley didn't look how he does would half the people on here care a hoot if he never had sex with Amy? I doubt it. It's not so much about the character as his cute ass.

I've been thinking about all of this a lot in light of some of the spoiler discussion that's been going on. I don't want to mention anything spoilery, but the "chicken-pecking" moment from last night is enough to launch from. What does Sheldon know and when did he know it? If you will.

I think that we've seen a certain degree of progress for Sheldon and I think that his progress will continue on something of a long arc, rather than a sudden spike.

What we've seen is him initially being drawn to and fascinated by a person who is similar to him in terms of intellectual focus and pursuit of science/knowledge. Amy was detached and clinical, like him, seemed to eschew romance and sex, like him, and was willing to indulge in the same kind of thinking of trivia, playing intellectual games and basically intellectualizing of things, like him.

However, their initial attraction to each other began to work on both of them quickly enough. I think that their emotional bonds are strengthening and that's more crucial for Sheldon, perhaps, than for Amy because he seems to have a longer row to hoe to finally get to the point of sexualized thinking or behavior.

I think that for him the emotional bond must get stronger or deeper in order for him to wish to express it physically. I don't see him developing lustful thoughts or desires simply because he's male and she's female. WIth his ability to intellectualize and see both the male and female bodies from a clinical perspective, I don't think that simply seeing Amy naked is enough to change his perspective.

I think that at some point he will have to understand romantic love a little more and then understand that that's what he feels for Amy. Once he can properly assimilate that into his thinking and acknowledge those feelings, then at some point he might desire to initiate physical touch as an expression of romantic intimacy--holding hands for affection and connection, then kissing for affection and connection.

I think that by going down that path he would eventually find himself being aroused into deeper physical desire.

I don't see Sheldon somehow just becoming physically aroused out of the blue, and I don't think it would be right for Amy to do something like start touching him or fondling him in an effort to try to arouse him. In my mind I see that almost like date rape or something--forcing him onto a different level before he's ready.

I think that if and when he does feel ready to sleep with Amy (and I think he would still have qualms about having sex with her outside of marriage because of his upbringing and out of respect to his mother), he would probably need quidance. I don't know about Amy's level of experience. I think it's somewhat clinical as well (volunteering for orgasm studies?!), but I can't remember if she ever implied that she'd ever slept with anyone.

But I can see Sheldon preparing for it the same way he learned how to swim and how to do rock-climbing...

I still feel that that clumination (ahem) is still somewhere further down the path, but I have no idea what kind of timeframe TPTB are thinking of, or if they'd want to have them sleep together and then deal with the aftermath..

just because sheldon and amy are "different" does not mean they can't have sex, bye x

But I think it would be a very big deal for Sheldon--all kinds of walls would have to come tumbling down in order for him to go through with that and I don't see it happening on a whim.

ETA: Although I do have an image in my head--probably more JP than Sheldon...

Jim has done this thing several times in sort of casual interviews where he'll raise his arms up in a little victory salute--like this \o/

He kind of did it when Penny helped the guys get Sheldon's things back from Zarnecki.

So now, every time I think of Sheldon having finally gone through with sleeping with Amy, I imagine him emerging from the bedroom doing that and saying, "We did it!" :D :D :D
