Well sure but they are not conventionally romantic, but they are not a conventional relationship so its not really relevant when it comes to Shamy haha. I think my point is Amy is tje only female I can see Sheldon working with in a relationship, and they are pretty much compatible in every other aspect, apart from like you said the romantic aspect. But seeing neither has had any experience in any romantic pardaim in relationships it's different, I think tho Sheldon has more in common with Amy then anyone on the show, and they had to bring in an outside character, and Amy in a way is his equal so I dont think she is worse in anyway. Amy in a way gets Sheldon more then any of the characters on the show, due to everything they have in common JMO. Amy looks like she isin't going anywhere anyway.

They are a couple. They fact that they are not the kind of couple you prefer doesn't mean they are a fail as you call it. No couple is like another. What doesn't work FOR YOU will work for someone els

Shall we start a thread entitled YES MORE AMY ?

In your opinion--why do you think their relationship is a "big FAIL"?   What about it is a failure?  They are intellectually compatible, they enjoy each other's company, they appreciate each other's

I am a hopeless romantic.  I think there is someone for everyone out there.  I think there is someone that makes the other want to be a better person, to grow, to change, to achieve.  I feel that Amy is that person for Sheldon.  I don't think he will ever achieve the greatest he could be without someone in his life to inspire and stand by him.

I think Amy is that person because she does accept him with all his quirks.  And while he tries to fight it, he knows that she is good for him..

I started watching big Bang this year and started from the middle - so I watched one of the Season 6 episodes and decided to give it a try.. and I have to say that Amy and Bernadette are a great add on. I enjoyed the first 3 seasons a lot but I do feel that after another season it would have become too much of the geeky guys and Penny. Amy and Bernadette are perfect, because they bring in that female intellect to the show that was needed!!! draws in more crowd..

And she also challenges Sheldon, not only intellectually but also emotionally... It may not be obvious..but he does go to her for advise most of the time and also ends up taking her advise.

So yeah AMY SHOULD STAY

They aren't romantic at all. They picked the worse girlfriend they could think of and I just can't ship that. I don't see anything between them and that's not because I'm a shenny, it's because there's nothing there.

Who else is perfect for Sheldon. And accept who he is. What other woman would wait this long for a kiss? Only Amy.

The chemistry is their intellect, their upbringing, and their social awkwardness.

Who would make Sheldon think about being "intimate" with? Only Amy

Well, apparently Jim and Mayim think differently...

Well said.

I'm prompted to reply too because I find assertions like this one totally over the top.

If you say you don't "see anything", well, it's fine, it's you opinion and your own biases which affects it, but if you add the categorical "because there's nothing there", well, you are entering a totally different territory.

First of all, how can you pretend the fact you have a totally different shipping wish doesn't affect at all your opinion? please!

Second, there IS something there, the relationship portrayed in Shamy is a very valid one, it's exaggerated for comical purposes, of course, but the intellectual and personality affinity that is the essential basis of their relationship is true and many people (as myself) feel identified and validated by such kind of relationship portrayed in TV.

Third, you fanon shippers keep saying you have a chance because "so many people" like or had favored your ship since the show started, so, it must be because "there's something there" (suppa-duppa chemistry, so luvly interaction, fire-happening between them, etc), well, that works both ways, have you checked the amount of Shamy fans as lately?, how can you say "there's nothing there" when so many people feel so strongly for the couple and supports them? if it's that horrible and unromantic, how can you explain the great Shamy fanlove then?, why only your ship can get validated by numbers and ours not?

So, this ship is totally valid, not just because it's canon, not just because that's the writers intention and because the actors totally and vocally support it, but because there are a lot of people out there who can feel it and had made them their couple of choice.

not this thread being resurrected

what did we do to deserve this

We are too fabulous

eta: The things I find hilarious when this topic comes up are 2.

1) That they "picked" the wrong girlfriend. As if Amy were a real person, not a character that was specifically designed to BE Sheldon's girlfriend. She was not created to be her own character, she just became her own later on (and I do agree that the writers, occasionally, need to remember why she was created in the first place if they want this relationship to work out and be believable, when they decide to develop her as her own character... but that's a discussion for another thread).

2) That the people who like Amy/Shamy are somehow biased as if we were being paid to like her. LOL. I mean, this is maybe not pertinent to this specific round of resurrection of this thread, but I've seen this attitude more than once. I wonder if people realize that all of us were people that went along our lives and our business before she came along and we just *happened* to like her and become fans because we genuinely like her, not because we are being brainwashed by the creators.

I also don't understand the whole "There should be less of her because I don't like her". I personally could not care less about Raj. But I'd never dream of saying there should be less of him, he's a part of the show like everyone else. I guess maybe the difference is that I don't dislike Raj, I don't know. But I think the show has to cater to a lot of different palates and obviously not everyone will love everything with the same enthusiasm. But that doesn't mean it should be reduced or cut out of the show.

And, in any case, it's done. She's not going anywhere. They just last week renewed Mayim's contract for another 2-3 years or whatever.

I agree it is a dead issue. Look at the pole result.

The writers are having a lot of fun with Amy.

The character enriches the show.

Perhaps there could be some refinement of the character and I'm guessing there will be.

Amy is here to stay.

Sorry but I have to put my two cents in.

Sheldon and Penny aren't romantic at all and there is nothing there with S/P either but somehow you want the show to go in that direction.

I'm no Shamy Shipper but Amy is not the worst girlfriend choice for Sheldon. Besides there is no other choice except maybe Leonard. HA HA HA

Exactly people who ship Sheldon and Penny for what ever reason lol don't realize it would destroy the show, besides they are just too different it's funny because people say Leonard and Penny have nothing in common and you think Sheldon and Penny do! lol. Their relationship is not like that, Kaley and Jim even said it is a sibling relationship, remember Kaley said in an interview it would be gross haha. It's funny because their is nothing in the actual show to suggest any moment Penny has ever seen Sheldon in a romantic light, I think Howard said it best or the writers ;) "It's like a weird comic book cross over" lol.  I mean it's Sheldon! Okay I am not getting into that discussion again. I ship Plashenny :) TBH I agree I cannot see Sheldon dating any other women then Amy, she is his romantic equal.

Neither are Leonard and Amy or Sheldon and Bernadette but it doesent change how the characters are written and the dynamic's and chemustry regardless of the relationships thy are in. The writers have never written Sheldon and Penny romantically, because 1. the way the characters are written they are not compatible and woul hav nothing in common. And 2. They want the money keep rolling in after the show ends they know fans dont expect Shenny to ever happen, most fans know its an harmless cute AU idea, I mean if the writers thought it was the shows advantage to have Shenny as a couple they would of by now, they have had every oppurtunity to do so. But they have always been written as a sibling maternal relationship, Kaley and Jim hava similar relationship, Lenny has always been the writers baby go back to the pilot the show is based on Leonard and Penny meeting, and Sheldon and Penny became friends because of Leonard, theirs the premise right thier so all the writing in the show is based on the pilot. So I dont think Shamy is fail by any stretch they are not conventionally romantic, but that's what makes them so unique were talking about Sheldon here he never planned on having a relationship ever, Amy is the only women he has ever compromised on this. So while they are not behaving like a conventional relationship, like Sheldon said what they have to them is very intimate.

Sheldon and Penny have never been written romantically but Sheldon and Amy are supposed to be a couple! but they are just a big FAIL.

In your opinion--why do you think their relationship is a "big FAIL"?

What about it is a failure?  They are intellectually compatible, they enjoy each other's company, they appreciate each other's quirks and idiosyncrasies.  And Sheldon is working his way toward physical intimacy with Amy, even so far as to suggest and follow through with their D&D fantasy sex.

And yes, it's true that Sheldon and Penny have never been written romantically, and they never will be.  So there's no point in Sheldon not being with Amy.  The characters don't have any preferences outside of what is written for them, so Sheldon is in love with Amy and she with him (even if they haven't quite gotten to the point of a mutual "I love you".  Sheldon wouldn't have asked Amy to be his girlfriend if he didn't want the relationship.

And on top of that, Jim and Mayim love the Shamy relationship and play the subtext really well, and acknowledge that Sheldon and Amy understand each other and that their reltionship works in its unique way.

What more would one want?

LOL, "a big FAIL"  :sarcastic:

See, as Sursonica, I was about to point out again that you're merely stating a personal preference and such, and as Phanta I was about to ask you to elaborate about it and yadda, yadda, but then I realized there's no use, you are just venting out frustration.

So, go on, keep on hating if that makes you feel better.

No more Amy?? :fie:  And in capital letters??

As far as the character concerns I think Amy is one of the best things that happened to the show. Amy is my favorite character and this is because she is smart, she is funny and a really nice person! She missed everything a teenager would have lived but she wants it all so desperately that one can never predict what comes next from her! I like the way the character has evolved and we can expect so much more! Next to Sheldon she is clearly somewhat socialized and capable of change. Next to everybody else she is well...a little better than Sheldon (I mean as a social human being not as a character).

Now considering Amy as part of a relationship with Sheldon...Well, of course I love it!!!To begin with they are absolutely funny which is the main purpose.Besides that what they have is extremely sweet and the fact that they are not intimate yet is a big asset for the show.I have been reading things about the shamy and I realized that most people (including me!!) are waiting for anything initiated by Sheldon (maybe a little more than hand-holding though :dancer: ).And this is because it would represent how much Sheldon has grown with her and maybe for her.But all that in their own slow-paced and weird way. That is the beauty of it. They make progress but they still remain themselves.

I am so glad that Amy stayed!!I loved her in every single season and have great expectations from her in the future!!

@sarah7 I love your profile image!!I just love those moments when they look at each other and it becomes so obvious that something huge is there!!!!!!

At first I thought adding extra characters (i.e. Amy and Bernadette ) would ruin the show.

However, I have been pleased to be completely wrong. Both actresses are superb, and their characters are

  well written.

The best thing about them both, is that they have been part of the evolution of the characters.  That's what makes

TBBT a far superior product to Two and a half men - the characters don't always stay the same, they evolve with time.

The fact that the characters have grown as people over the years, but the show continues to be so funny, is a testament

to how well it's written.   In fact, those relationships have proven to be the source of many more laughs, because just

like in real life, they have their smooth, and crunchy moments.

I'm a huge fan of Bernadette, and the Howard -Bernadette dynamic is a terrific one that can carry an entire episode, they just

about need their own show. But, this is about Amy, so I'll stick with her.

Amy's character has changed significantly from her first appearance, but it's been fun to watch her develop as a person.

And Mayim Bialik's comic timing is superb, and she does that crazy Amy-face so well.

The Sheldon -Amy dynamic was at its absolute zenith in season 6, during the "closure" experiment. It was hilarious, and great to

see Amy put the acid on Sheldon for a change.

...also, the Cooper-Kripke inversion, where Amy hugs Sheldon as he's crying about producing inferior work to Kripke's ,

that was great.

So IMO, Amy needs to stay !   In fact, I think a great ending to the show would be Amy and Sheldon's wedding.

I can understand why people don't like the character, and why they feel that the boys' relationships have diverted

focus from what the show was originally about  - science-fiction, social-awkwardness, and physics.

But I think the real charm of the show, has been that its really about friendship, and friendships evolve over time,

as such, so must the show.

I don't agree with this growth thing. Look at Friends, ten seasons and at the end the characters were very recognisable as themselves. They went through many different experiences but were basically the same characters. No one was added to the cast and even major extra characters like Ross's second wife and Pheobes husband were kept to a bare minimum. They kept the basic premise and dynamic throughout the entire ten seasons. It's a sitcom not a soap or drama there isn't a massive need for character growth.

Amy is the reason I haven't watched the last episode or two, it just got too much and had become the Amy show rather than The Big Bang Theory.

By the last season of Friends, the cast had become caricatures of themselves, Joey went from dumb but handsome to mentally challenged, Monica went from having a thing about cleaning to diagnosably OCD and so on. Because there was no growth, all there was to work with was the various personality tics, which got blown WAY up into over the top personality disorders. The same thing would happen here if there wasn't the growth that we've seen so far. Can you imagine just the 5 of them now in season 7? These people have some seriously unique personalities which without change and without growth would be so over the top and so overdone and so overused that if they'd made it to season 7, there wouldnt be a season 8, they'd have no more audience to watch them.
