The only thing that makes them "standard couples" in your mind is that the pairings are not to your liking.  The only reason you keep harping on this "curve ball" or "twist" or what you think is "thin

OK, I normally sit out arguments like this one. But this one sailed way over the pale.   Please explain how Sheldon and Penny would bring out the best in each other? The characters of Penny and Shel

I loved the British Comedy "Are You Being Served" . Ran from 1972-1983 I believe. Penny in no way should go out with Sheldon. They have no interest nor any desire to be in a romantic relationship.

color=#000080]Penny should go out with Sheldon in next season the cast should do thid they would be awsome couple include dancing drinking daiting and other stuff sheldon and penny are awsome together so that would be good for next season[/c:icon_cool:olor]

The whole thing about these shows is to see how the characters grow until the eventual end where they show them all going off to their new lives for the better. we have seen that Howard has found somone. Leonard has changed from an awkward social misfit to a more confident albeit cocky nerd. Penny has also grown a bit too as a character from her first appearance and her relationship with Sheldon has helped her grow and has also made Sheldon more human. I do not know if the show should explore the relationship on screen but I would like to see the end of the show with just the two of them sitting on their spots 'reading like an old married couple' leaving the future to the fantastical imagination of the fans, because to do anything else would cheapen the very special relatioship the two of them have developed.

for those fans that hate to see this happen, well get over it, if the fans want it enough, the writers will cave to make them happy, they gave us Leonard and Penny again and look how obviously ridiculous it is to have these two ppl together again, it seems just forced. Thats just my opinion.

My biggest reservation about this pairing is changing Sheldon beyond what is believable.

If Jim Parsons had never been cast in this role, most of us wouldn't even be watching the show. Sheldon is the best new comedy character we have seen on our screens, in absolute donkeys years! If the writers want to mess with this, more fool them!

Besides, the majority of fans don't agree, so we don't need to 'get over' anything. There's even a poll on this site. 'Who does penny belong with?' It's up to 39,700 Leonard vs 11,600 Sheldon. Shenny Shippers are in the minority. Although I do appreciate their enthusiasm for the idea! And we'll just have to wait and see what the writers decide to do.

Ahhh, Sheldon and Penny sitting in "their" spots on the couch like an old married couple - that would be a fantastic end to the show! :icon_cheesygrin:

I love their interaction but I don't see them as a couple.

Me too, I love how he insults her. :icon_lol:

I love how they insult each other... :icon_cheesygrin:

I do see them as a possible couple. It's a very tantalizing prospect.

Sheldon has made it clear that he thinks Penny is stupid and uneducated. He believes she is an inferior intellect that needs 'training' to learn acceptable behaviors. He feels she is ruled by her carnal urges. He has done everything but call her a tramp to her face. Dispute his math if you like, but he believes she has had at least 31 lovers. He thinks she uses her body to gain material benefits. She steals his and Leonard's wi-fi and mooches food from them. Sheldon has mocked her interests and called her belief in astrology delusional. He considers her to be no more than a friend, and someone that brings some diversity to his social group. And, he has shown that even 'friend' status is something he will throw over in favor of someone else if it benefits him. Amy, at least appeals to his intellectual nature and understands the way he thinks. And, unlike Leonard, he is not influenced or affected by Penny's pretty face or nice figure.

Penny thinks Sheldon is crazy. Dr. Wackadoodle. She calls his rambling dissertations 'jibber jabber'. She has made it clear that she thinks Leonard is nuts to live with him. She also questioned Amy directly on why she wanted him for a boyfriend. She is amused or annoyed by his personal quirks. She is offended by his arrogant condescension.

The interaction between these two characters is entertaining and frequently hilarious. The characters as established are completely incompatible as a romantic pairing. Huge changes would have to take place in both of them, resulting in a Sheldon and Penny so fundamentally different as to be unrecognizable. And, I believe, these changes would ruin Sheldon altogether. Jim Parsons has brought this character to life as a totally unique persona. That is what makes him so captivating. A Sheldon that could date Penny would not be Sheldon at all. Just a watered down personality that's a little quirky.

And, just as an aside. How many women would really want to go out with a man that has clearly shown that he thinks there would be nothing out of character for her to star in a porn movie? Sheldon said just that to Penny.

haha, I watch them too fast. I can't stop. When I have enough time, I watch like 10 episodes, it's like a drug. :icon_redface:

Still better than me. When I downloaded them all, I watched all four seasons in four days. I wish I had paced myself but I just couldn't. LOL.

This. Though I have to say you beat me, I did the first three seasons in a week! But yes, it's totally addictive.

I'm not commenting on the topic because I really have nothing to add besides 'no, just no'. :)

Penny cares for Sheldon as a person. It's just that she doesn't and hasn't shown any desire to be with him. Sheldon still belittles her and thinks of her as sub human to him and continues to verbally express this opinion of Penny to her.

Let's be honest, Leonard has treated Penny in a much friendlier manner than Sheldon has. If Leonard talked and said to Penny the statements and comments Sheldon typically does to her do you think Penny would go out with Leonard. The answer would be no. She would tell Leonard to go take a hike.

Except you can't compare Sheldon and Leonard together

They've just been friends too long. At least with Leonard and Penny, there has been some tension, the topic is out in the open. If Sheldon and Penny started dating, it'd be too much like Kramer and Elaine dating, or Elliot and Turk, or Deborah and Batista, or Rachel and Chandler. It just wouldn't feel right.

You must have missed the episode where Chandler explained to Ross how he hooked up with Rachel at a college party.

I completely agree with this.

Plus: Penny has her needs. Can you guys imagine Sheldon having sex all the time? Well I can't.

They have a beautiful friendship and I hope they keep it that way.

I see Sheldon with not having sex this long having an uncontrable libido for a while

I do agree they seem forced Leonard was the obivious nerd to have a chance with the beautiful blonde by default and it mad it forced, penny seems the only one that hasn't really changed or grown that much or the least of them.

For one I've never heard of Jim until the show so you can't be sure if that as for the poll 39,000 and something versus 11,000 and something and how many viewers due it average a week not very scientific huh?

is there a way to block a thread from showing up? because I'd really like to block this one.

You don't comment that's how

Everything you said about Sheldon - what he thinks about Penny - can also be said about Leonard. The difference is Leonard is not saying it to Penny's face, because he's much more socially adept than Sheldon. :icon_cheesygrin:

Cbolt I don't understand what Leonard has to do with this particular argument. Leonard is not the one who insults Penny's intelligence to her face Sheldon does. Leonard has stopped Sheldon from doing this kind of references to Penny.

I took the porno comment from Sheldon to Penny as an insult and so did she.

Except Sheldon doesn't realize if he did or said anything wrong, if you don't know something you did or said is wrong how can you learn.

Leonard knows what he says or does is wrong.

Leonard does so, for the most part, mistakenly, then experiences regret, and attempts to mend the relationship.

Sheldon does so with the subtly of a lumberjack coupled with the regret of a rock.

The true difference between them is that Leonard is a hypocrite and will lie and conceal his thoughts in order to get into the pants of a hot girl.

It's not that Leonard doesn't believe Penny is stupid, he's just much more socially evolved than Sheldon and knows better than to point it out. :icon_cheesygrin:

Actually a point that I have seen raised on Tumblr I think, and quite a valid one too, is why if Penny and Leonard (Kaley and Johnny)are meant for each other do a lot of the photos have Kaley and Jim interacting, the one that comes quickly to mind is the spaghetti one and there are plenty of other pictures where they have placed them together like that. If Sheldon is married to science why did they set up the photos like that? Or perhaps it's just the photographer? But I would have thought that they would have a production company representative with them on these shoots to ensure that everything is done correctly and how CBS wants to portray the series and it's characters. Any thoughts?

well, I don't think it means anything really as the creatives and photographers of the magazines/publications are the ones who choose the themes... and let's face it, most of them think Jim is more attractive than Johnny and will put him with the pretty girl... like they always do on magazies... the one with the Spaguetti that is around Tumblr is edited (as many are) Johnny was on the picture but Shenny fans erased him (like a lot of the times he is). Kaley/Jim have never made a photoshoot without Johnny, it is always the 3 of them or just Kaley/Johnny ... but poor Johnny always gets erased/cut by Shenny fans :(

tumblr_lxmzxij2YY1r90im2

it IS a valid point though when thinking about the Season 1 DVD cover (where she is leaning on Sheldon while looking at Leonard)

but since on the show itself they haven't hinted or setup any bases on them being together... well.. I think that is what it counts, not magazines photoshoots.

(also, there are plenty of photoshoots where Kaley & Johnny ARE paired)

BUT it it were like that then these two pics CONFIRM what I always say: that Howard is THE GUY (think about it, she never told him she liked him, and then he started seeing someone else a.k.a. Bernadette and now Penny always regretted it .. Bazinga!) but if the photos theory is true, then I'm right!!! YAY!
