I will have to take your lead on the Christmas truce. ;)

^ I actually think TBBT since S4 has been at its strongest. Besides ive never seen anyone say the shows been terrible, it is currently the most watched comedy on the planet, so its obviously doing something right. Its funny ppl say 1-3 were the shows best years, compared to 4, 5 & 6 considerably less ratings compared to 4, 5 & 6. The last three seasons have been nominated for Emmy's, Jims Emmy and GG win's were all Post S3. Yeah I know theirs no subsitute for quality, and ratings dont automatically = Quality just think its ironical. Its all fun to imagine an alternate reality where Sheldon and Penny are completly different pp and may in some way work as a couple, but its just not realistic JMO.

There is an easy answer, DON'T COME TO THIS THREAD.   I feel the same way about people who constantly complain that TBBT has been terrible since season 4.   If you feel that way, STOP WATCHING IT.

I always find it amusing when people say this. It's just a restatement of the schoolyard paradigm of, "Taking your ball and going home"

Fortunately, those people don't own the ball.

Jims first Emmy and Golden Globe were for season 3. The second Emmy for 4. He's been nominated since but hasn't won, yet. I'm one of those who think the early seasons were better. The ideas were overall better and more unique IMO. But it doesn't mean I don't like any of the newer stuff.

Yeah that is what I meant by post Season 3, I meant Season 3 and onwards. Yeah I agree the early seasons are probably the strongest in terms of it's original premise with the nerdy science matarial was probably more prominent, but TBBT is a situational comedy and like all sitcoms that hit a certain point, their needs to be changes to keep the show fresh and prevent stagnitism. Besides I think S6 had found a balance, and I think their was alot of focus on the relationships, especially Lenny and alot of a focus on Penny and how she is maturing in her relationship with Leonard, although some people may see her as lazy and unfocused in S6 which I agree to a certain degree, I like how almost domesticated she has become, because lets be honest its S7 now not S1 she is fully integrated in the group. You cannot expect her to walk in the guys apartment and be shocked or anti-geek like she was, remember Sheldon saying in S2 I think it was "Penny in this case you would be the peculiar one in the room", that has changed some what now the show has progressed. Their was a lot of great eps in S6 though that involved sciency nerdy stuff, the lab scene between Leonard and Penny was a highlight, I really loved the halloween ep when Leonard and Penny started to find a new spark, and I thought IMO the best scene of the season was when Penny finnally told Leonard she loves him, this highlighted the growth in Penny. Overall I think the writers have done a great job at evolving the characters, not too much but just enough to keep it fresh.

I kind of wonder if Penny's cleaned her apartment because Amy told her she had spread her scent "all over your apartment" in ep 3. LOL!

As one poster said a few months ago "Penny and Sheldon have amazing chemistry".  I totally agree and it would be ruined if they started dating.  What would make a better story is, if they find out they are related to each other.  Perhaps Penny could be Sheldon's half sister, sharing the same father.  How would this fly?  Any comments as to whether this would be a feasible storyline?

So how does Jim's Emmy win for S6 factor into your theory?

Thee are all kinds of reasons for ups and downs at th award shows--most often it's the competition. New shows that make a splash, etc. I mean, Jon Cryer? That was some kind of aberration, maybe caused by other votes canceling each other out. I mean, really, did Cryer suddenly become a better actor than Jim and whoever else was nominated?

The ratings for the show have done nothing but climb, but I guess all those 20 million people must be stupid, since the show's so much worse now than it was back in the good old days.

MacShenny always has it coming. ;)

Of that I have no doubt. They’re a cantankerous bunch, and their opinions of the show are not particularly roseate hued. They’re also vying for something that necessarily strikes at the heart of the two main camps. That makes their opinions hated, but not invalid, I might add. However, I don’t see a vast horde of them war-mongering about this forum. There is in fact about three of us (may as well include me as a “Shenny” as nobody else can be arsed to make the distinction). And one of us IS VERY NICE INDEED (cough Wally cough) and yet cops all the flak.

Ranting at large now, Lionne my good friend, put on your noise-cancelling headphones.

Regarding that UTTER nonsense on the 7.3 thread;

One new member (who, I think it is extremely important to point out, had no idea what a “Shenny” was, and therefore was presumably...er, NOT one, but rather a human being who happened to like some relationship concepts over others) stated their (no doubt contentious on this forum, could-be-less-arsy) opinions and was promptly leapt on by a large number of understandably emotionally-driven people. Grand. That’s what happens on forums. The OP was not responsible, however, for the derailment and subsequent rampant pillaging of the thread. The one and a half “Shennies” (jesus) who were involved did not cause most of the damage, in terms of pure mighty walls of text (like this one), it was the more experienced, clever posters, who should know better than to get into these topics.

I might also say, that phrases like “I smell a Shenny”, “your Shenny is showing” and in fact anything which reduces a person to such a hated category, are incredibly, unbelievably disturbing and mildly sickening. As for, “please return to your P and S shippers thread” yes we have our ghetto, thank you very much. Thank you so much.

You can attack a ship all you want (if you MUST be aggressive), but the fans on board are off-limits. This goes for those “all Shamys are hysterical women” comments as well. Because, no they’re bloody not.

Let’s use a militaristic analogy again, seeing as these wars are apparently unending.

People fight for their country because they are born into allegiance to it. Their friends, their family are there. People are likewise born into their heart’s allegiance (or, if you want to get into the whole tabula rasa thing, because they DEVELOP an allegiance to it)

To fight for one’s country, on an open ground, where one knows the enemy is fighting for the same things you are, presumably freedom and safety for one’s loved ones, is what might be termed an inevitable evil. To set ablaze the house of a mild German family that happens to live in an English village during wartime, is an example of an active evil.

Fight for one’s beliefs, surely, if a fictional preference can be called a belief, but do not damn and blast those who differ, if their difference means no harm to you. And absolutely do not attack those who are your enemies by NAME alone. Utter horror and idiocy lies down that path.

People have the right to say whatever the hell they want about the canon ships, whether they ship AU or not. It’s a TV show, not a genuine war for fucksake, and we all watch it for our own, equally valid purposes. There’s a flawed reasoning which repeatedly surfaces;

“You don’t like Lenny/Shamy BECAUSE you’re in favour of Shenny” when in fact the two things happen simultaneously and yet are independent of each other. It’s insulting to suggest an agenda, when it’s actually just a preference.

The sort of mind which favours a sparring, polar opposite type of relationship might be naturally adverse to a “pursuit of a holy grail” or “unrequited passion” type, which are frequent interpretations I see around of the main canon relationships. (Some fans will disagree, certainly, but nonetheless there’s no escaping that that’s how some other people see it, and it is an equally valid interpretation) Some minds might be bizarrely in favour of all three, depending on who the characters are. The point is, you can’t assume an agenda by placing a person into a box you’ve assigned them, simply because they don’t like what you like. It’s bigoted, narrow-minded, cliquish behaviour.

I’m well aware that spoiling people’s fun (my friends included) by asking them to stop tying tin-cans to the tail of the scapegoat “Shenny” because it upsets me, is a pointless endeavour. No-one should have to pussy-foot around their friends’ feelings. Unless they want to, I don’t know, be friendly. I understand this is “war” though. Apparently.  One should maybe endeavour to be pleasant on a neutral forum, and say what the hell you wish in private message.

On this forum, I estimate I spend about 40% of my energy restraining my opinions. About Lenny, about Shamy, about Leonard himself, about the direction of the show (I used to talk about this a lot, now I’m learning to shut up). I spend about 40% of my energy defending what I shouldn’t need to defend, ie, a private FF preference, and something which takes place in a different universe to the current show. That leaves me 20% to actually talk to you good chaps about things of similar interest, or the show at large. Provided I don’t talk about the two main couples on the show, or bring up the old days, or mention anything to do with Sheldon and Penny, or….

I can talk about Howard (as long as I’m HAPPY with the new Howard. For the record, I am) or Bernadette. Or Raj. I can talk about Raj till the cows come back from Comicon.

Point is, this particular forum, as brilliantly designed as it is, and as neutral as Tripper intended it to be, is nonetheless NOT a true demographic slice of the TBBT fanbase, because those that dislike the current pairings either flee, or repress their opinions.

Which brings me to the polls that Lionne mentioned on the other thread. I might say that Lionne is one of my favourite people, and a brilliant writer (you should read her surrealist AFF based story), but apparently the forum members are doing the whole “shot mine arrow o'er the house and hurt my brother” sort of schtick today, and not giving two bob for each other’s feelings.  Although nobody sent me that bloody memo…

Polls can say anything at all, depending on where you take them from, and what you combine them with. “Yes Minister” taught us that. (if you haven’t seen it, watch it damn you!)

This is a canon-commandeered forum, so polls taken from WITHIN it are obviously going to be biased towards the canon ships. One wouldn’t take a poll from a Shenny website either. Polls taken on the Main Site are fine, as they’re filled in by the un-obsessed flibbertigibbet fans who cruise the net. Polls taken on other television sites are also grand.

Spoiler TV ran a poll on the favourite female/male relationship (platonic or otherwise) on TBBT and it came out; S/P 43%, S/A 22%, L/P 18%, H/B 9%

THIS site’s polls;

Favourite character; Sheldon 50%, Leonard 15%, Penny 19%, Amy 4%, Raj 5%, Howard 4%

Should Sheldon get a girlfriend; Yes (non-specific) 49.8%, No or Yes, Penny 50.2%

If you go by this, 50% of fans are unhappy with Amy being Sheldon’s girlfriend. And judging by what I’ve encountered on other parts of the net and that weird external world with sunshine and so forth, that seems about right. TPTB are currently pleasing about half of the fans (the others will still watch, mind!). If they changed their tune, they’d be pleasing the other half. They will lose NOTHING by changing the current paradigm. I’d like to think Shamy fans would still watch if they kept Amy but split up Shamy. You chaps like Sheldon and Amy individually as well, surely.

I like Amy when she’s being macabre, personally, or “on the make”, a grand old concept! I also thought the business back in the 4th about her being the fiance of the camel-race-fancying sheik utterly brilliant. It is not necessary for her to be Sheldon's "girlfriend" when she could simply, and quite honestly, MARVELOUSLY be his friend. Why the HELL can't he have a friend that understands him , without bowing to gurning Hollywood nonsense?

Point is, Polls mean either diddley-squat or everything.

Taking the membership of Paradox, ALL of which are Shennys (bloody hate that name) at 3,040, with a further 2,503 watching, versus the membership of this forum, approximately 4000, split between Shamys, Lennys, and “Don’t-Give-a-Damns”, most of whom have no avatar and just turn up once in a while to say “bum” and then disappear, and the regular posters numbering about the same as the regular Paradox posters, I’d say the Shennys have a fairly equal slice of the fandom pie. In fact, going by this, there seems to be far MORE of the bastards.

The Pink forum is mostly this forum duplicated, so I’m discounting it.

As for thread derailment in general, where somebody asks a question, and another responds, and then the first person replies, or someone else joins in, ALMOST LIKE A REAL HUMAN CONVERSATION, it may be irritating for those who aren’t interested in that particular topic, or who have personally covered that topic a billion times before, but for new members it’s a fresh field.

For myself, plowing through some of these threads is like plowing though a sticky, hormonal swamp of orgasm gifs, pre-pubescent lingo and “squeeing”, endless talk on Penny’s promiscuity, protestations about Penny’s virtue, fantasy fiction about the actors being in love, animated gifs of Jim’s arse (not complaining, just pointing out), and any number of, to me, utterly pointless and irritating things (save for the last, provided the animated arse stays in its own thread).

I think that a discussion about the relationship between two of the three core characters is somewhat more relevant than people using the Spoiler Thread as a chat room, to the point of saying goodnight to each other. And they bloody well do.

If people here are determined to shoot down any experimental idea with the idiotic phrase “It’s not just a ship, it’s canon!” as though that actually means anything, other than “I’m backing the favourite at 2:1 rather than the outside horse at 10:1” or, “this building that already exists is better than the building in your mind” which is utter presumption, then I really don’t see the point of having a forum at all. Why not just look in a mirror and tell yourself you’re right?

I’m sorry for being uppity, but I think this is the tipping point of my tolerance.

Essentially, this massive rant is brought to you by Count Fed-Up-To-The-Back-Teeth Wally.

Incidentally, my horse won at this year’s Melbourne Cup. Its odds were 18:1. And it was a hell of a lot more interesting than backing the favourite.

Gravedigger.

BTT: I don't know which series you are watching, but in my opinion, the idea with "Penny should go out with Sheldon" is ridiculous. Penny and Leonard are in love, just like Amy and Sheldon. There is and was NO reasonable way for a romantic "Shenny". Yes, they "love" each other, but only on siblings-basis. Also Penny would like to kill Sheldon most of the time for his intolerability.

I don't say it's a bad thing. Episode 7.01 shows so much cuteness between them. That's the way it's meant to be, NOTHING more. How can you "Shenny-shippers" not see that?!

IF they do it that way, it would definetly ruin the show.

Point is fans are just fans, a poll from a site could say 90 % in favor of Penny and Raj as a couple, its just a conjecture. For record I dont remember seeing those poll results, so I can only speak for myself. All I think is go back to the pilot when Leonard first met Penny, the whole central premise of the show is based on "our babies well be smart and beatiful". Any other relationship constructed or deconstructed from the show, is purley subsequential to the core premise. Shenny is an idea heck if the writers went with them as a couple im not complaining its their show lol, Penny would prob end up killing him in a week lol but you never kno, its just they have had every oppurtunity to do so, but since S3 the show has hit status quo.

The writers are telling a story, the writing of those stories is based on the direction they talk in the pilot, thats the point. Ive and most ppl have always seen Shenny as a nice platonic sibling love/hate relationship, Penny is almost a motherly figure for Sheldon guiding him through all life's problems. Bit OT or maybe not but I remember in 5x01 Leonard told Howard that Sheldon has a better shot with Penny, and he prob doesent even kno how to use his gentials lol. That was their relationship, the chances of them having a sexual relationship seeing Penny is a very sexual person, and the fact Sheldon told Amy up to her I never considered being intimate with another female ever, just doesent fit with the way the writers have wrote their characters. I guess the writers want the money rolling in well after the show ends, and while Sheldon and Penny have great chemistry, it has never been romantic its just not what the characters bring to theie relationship. 7.01 really emphazised to me their great friendship, they just have enough in common to sustain a conversation, but the biggest thing they have in common is Leonard, and I thought it waa nice they were bonding ivee missing him. So while Leonard and Penny may not be as enderaing at times as Shenny, or as peculuar or unique, the writers just couldent really sell after seven seasons of dating Leonard and dumb gym guy's suddenl out of the blue Sheldon, it would be jumping the shark tbh, only way I could see the writers going down that direction, is if the ratings went down. Like I said it just woulden't suit thevway the writers write the characters. I feel at times tho especially early on Leonard and Penny were the heart of the show, their are just some nice touching and romantic moments that are just so endering to me, but depending on ur personal prefernce in watching the show it could vary from character to character.

The writers have put faith in Lenny as the heart of the show, but at the same time also maintained the very popular arch of Shenny, so I think they have done a good job, as most of the comedic moments of the show have come from Shenny, and the big moments like the Bath Item hug in S2. So I understand based on ur own personal preferance you may like the idea of Shenny romantic, because of x & y, having the two leads especially the two characters who are from complete ends of the social spectrum, but in a way Penny is the only one who really understands Sheldon, but that doesent neccesarily guarentee they are compatible as a couple. And your right some of these threads to turn into more Facebook Messenger and gifs e.t.c Then actual discussion about the story archs. But then again this is a fan site and has members from all demographics, audiences, and all walks of life.

If your main preferance is the Science and Quality of the show, your prob going to avoid S6 threads like the plague, even story arcs that have developed into look at my new gif! On the other hand if you prefer the relationships on the show, your prob love to socialize and talk about Oenny's virtues, past promiscurity e.t.c. Because ppl are interested and the threads are all about discussing character development. But then again if your new and enter a thread post a comment that is obviousley in the minority, to a very calm and settled boat, and you haven't visited the same thread several times its going to be fresh to you, and you may end up stiring the pot, as that poster did the other night. Ive only been here two months, but I find ppl generally have a pre-disposition and personal preferance to the relationships on the show and theirs views and opinions too, as while most ppl would agree the chances of Sheldon and Penny having a physical relationship, is as remote as someone with a small torch light trying to find his or her's way out of a massive canvus, some ppl choose to beleive and take the smallest margin in the show and deconstruct that to suit their own personal ship or preferance, although theirs no evidence their at all.

And it gets to the point either A: They are not watching the show because their fav ship is not featured prominently and B: It derails the entire episode arch thread and turns into this ship war. And because of this anyone who brings an experimental idea albeit with the best intentions, may of only seen 7.03 and that was their first ep evee, gets shot down. Hey im guilty of it I get defensive lol, but its usually when the idea is misinformed and unconstructive, and hasen't considered all the varables of the couples on the show. Your right too about "it's not just a ship it's cannon!" Oh this chicks hotter then her, and it doesent matter if you think differently because she's hotter. But I think when ppl use that phrase they are speaking exponentially. Leonard and Penny have been in a real relationship, which has consisted of the tradational dating pardaigm over the course of the series, they've held hands, they have slept together e.t.c Theirs actually evidence to support the ship, where AU ships are parallel to the current reality and are hypothetical.

Your right though if everyone shares the same views it would get boring really fast, but you would just like to think after seven seasons and with the longest running relationship on the show being lenny, their would be some give and take or compromise from ppl who don't neccessarily prefer Lenny. At the end of the day were all fans of the show, I love all the characters and the relationships romantic, platonic, and AU. But I also know the cannon relationships in the show exist through the story arcs of the writers, because after all its not The Lenny Show, or The Shenny Show, or even The Shamy Show its The Big Bang Theory :).

all right everyone, cool down. People can post what they please, about what they please, and in answer to what they please, as long as it isn't against the rules. I've also hidden several posts, some because they no longer make any sense
