Lucky13 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I went to the taping of this episode last night (4/15). Leonard bids on ebay for a miniature Time Machine prop from the movie. His bid of $800 was just for fun, since he thinks that he would definitely be outbid...but of course he ends up winning. The gang is all there and decide to put in $200 each and share the prop. Turns out, the prop is a full size time machine from the movie. They are all very surprised at its size and have difficulty getting it up the stairs. As an aside, Sheldon and Leonard have an exchange regarding the elevator being broken for 2 years. While bringing it up the stairs, Penny comes out late for work and can't get past them. Sheldon suggests she go to the roof of the building and jump over to the other building and go down in that building, which she actually ends up doing. The gang gets the time machine in the living room and lay down a rotation of who gets it and rules when using it. Penny bursts in, very upset saying that she never made it to work because of their idea. She yells at them for being childish and immature with all their comics and props and stuff. Leonard takes this to heart. He is up in the middle of the night thinking about what she said, then decides to sell his entire comic, action figure, costume, prop, etc collection to the comic book store, since he feels he needs to grow up. While in the hall outside the door, the three others are trying to stop Leonard from doing this and Penny comes out wondering what's going on. After hearing what Leonard's doing, she is proud of him and in a daring move, he starts to ask her on a date. Right then, her boyfriend comes running up the stairs and he and Penny go in her apartment. Seeing this, the group all freeze, waiting for Leonard's reaction, dramatic pause....then he yells it's his turn on the time machine and they all go sprinting back in their apartment, with good old Leonard back. Whew, that's a lot of writing. It was a fun time, and took about 3 1/2 hours to tape. They had a couple segments already taped that we just watched on the monitors and they recorded our laughing. Lucky13 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Since the time machine is so big, Howard suggests taking off a part of it and then it might fit in the elevator. Leonard replies something to the effect of remember that the elevator has been broken for tow years. Then Sheldon looks at Leonard and says something like, you know, I've been meaning to ask you, should we call someone about that? Then they both stood there staring at each other, while the audience was laughing loudly. Sorry that I don't remember the exact dialogue. Also, there's a dream squence where Leonard and Sheldon are trying to pull the time machine up the stairs and Penny walks out late for work. Leonard says no problem and pulls open the elevator door, grabs the cable and tells her to hold on and trust him. I think it was a line from Superman 1 (when he caught Lois Lane) or Star Wars (when Luke swung across from ledge to ledge with Leia). She grabs onto him and they slowly lower down the elevator shaft while Penny's planting a kiss on Leonard. Then he wakes up sitting in the time machine. Awww. In this episode, Leonard wins something on ebay that the whole gang obsesses over. However, Penny feels that they are all being childish, and Leonard starts to believe her and considers changing his "geek" ways to impress her. Hilarity ensues. The end. I gotta say it was allot funnier then the last few episodes, but same time depressing (I have way to much in common with Lenard) that penny picks up another guy. Sherminator Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 To me this is the very best episode I've seen. I've watched it ten times, and still love it. there are no slow bits here. Getting the time machine was fun, trying it the first time was HILARIOUS. and the nerdvana colectibles, just great. and the end was very well done and must have cost a pretty penny in special effects. Classic. 'Oh, no! Morlocks!!!' Interesting trivia about the time machine: -the Actual time machine that was used in the original time machine movie, does not exist any more. some fanatics have been succesfull at tracking down some parts and the frame of the origina time machine, but it was in pieces and required a lot of new work and newly crafted parts to be put together again. But since half the parts are now newly made, the original machine can be said to be nonexistent. so, the time machine on this episode is just a copy. And no, not the abovementioned copy that was made using the original parts. also, to me it looks a bit better than the original one ever did... This was one of my favorite episodes on the show, mainly because of my interest of the classic 1960 movie The Time Machine. What is Ironic is that in the previous weeks before I ever saw this episode I was searching all over online to find a miniature replica of the Time Machine for sale. The miniatures I did find were being sold between $850. -$1000. Way too unaffordable for me! I don't recall what it would cost for a large model. I think there was one going for about $4000, quite a bit more than the $800 one that Leonard found on eBay. Heck! For that price I would be glad to have bought the full size model. One can clearly notice a change in the show from S 3 onward...sigh Yes I do miss the understated nerdiness as well... I know, Sheldon was so much more emotionless. He was perfect! A lot of people blame the changes on the introduction of the Amy character but I'm convinced this is not the case. I think it's because there were too many comparisons to aspergers. The writers would never confirm he was autistic even though it was dead obvious. And JP has squirmed over questions about this. I think they saw it a potential problem for the show, with him being ridiculed for comedy and having a 'condition' so to speak. I may be wrong but it's just a feeling I have. JP is playing him with emotional content now and he's such a professional he wouldn't be doing this without direction. They may have brought Amy in to add more credibility to the change (a love thing) but I don't think it's the reason. Still... I'm pleased to have him on our screens regardless. Maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorist at heart Plus they still want to appeal to the non uber nerds who watch the show. Too much nerdiness could chase people away. If it weren't for the original people that liked the show, it wouldn't have gone past S1 imo. I don't get all the jokes the guys make all of the time, but I have a hard time believing "too much nerdiness" would scare off audiences..it would only mean it is a 1 of a kind sitcom out there... Not like sadly Netmouse stated above it's becoming mainstream tv....I rather have it would go back to how it was in the first 2 seasons.
