Is Jim Parsons gay?

Since this is National Coming Out Month I'll explain;

It matters when celebrities come out and when people talk about it as;

1. it makes it easier for me to tell my mom & dad I'm a lesbian when they see Ellen & Portia di Rossi and Rachel Maddow and Jane Lynch being normal successful and happy with families. They won't think being gay means I'm doomed to an unhappy unsuccessful life because I'm not part of the majority. Or that I have to look and act a certain way. Lesbians are diverse.

2. My straight female friends won't develop gay panic & drop me if they understand Amy isn't a lesbian & that lesbians have no interest in straight women (I've been dropped & yes it hurts.)

3. It helps because if I'd known all of this years ago I wouldn't have wasted years of my life in the closet as I thought if I came out I'd be isolated and have to go to gay bars, have a 'lifestyle' where in actuality when I came out I had a big supportive community, giving me good advice and tons of new friends. Before I was isolated. Now I'm going to a housewarming potluck tonight, next week I could play WOW with friends, go to a movie and dinner, meet at a coffeehouse, go camping.

Jacks: People don't talk about being straight as it's the social norm & popular culture reinforces it everywhere; you're just not conscious of it.

ps. feel free to ask me questions or PM me privately.

Yes, I'm aware Johnny is straight. Although I'll admit I've had times where I wonder if he's bisexual.

This is what bothers me about these threads. People coming in saying we SHOULDN'T speculate. As if wondering whether someone is straight or gay or whatever automatically makes you a bad person. I'm not going online or on Twitter or trying to pry into Jims or anybody's life attemtping to figure out their sexual orientation. But I don't think it's wrong to wonder about someone's sexual orientation or talk about it. Jim and Johnny OBVIOUSLY know, and don't even care, that people speculate about their sexuality all the time.

I've never seen anyone get offended by someone asking them if they are gay or straight.

"Hey was just wondering are you gay?"

"WHY I NEVER! MY GOODNESS, THE AUDACITY- YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO ASK ME?!"

Is it important? No. So what. Lot's of things discussed on this board are pointless.

Before Shamy, Sheldon could have been gay, straight or an alien robot...and it wouldn't change the fact that I like him.  I never suspected Jim was gay and when I found out he was, it didn't make any difference whatsoever.  As far as i'm concerned he's a great actor, and i enjoy watching him perform.  His sexual orientation and personal life is none of my business.

I do get why it's an important thing when celebrities come out...My point is, it's a sad thing when in this day & age it's still such a big deal, when it really shouldn't matter imo.

I'm happy it makes it easier for people out there, to come out to friends & family if someone that people look up to, come out & it paves the way for others. Maybe I have a different look on these things as in my country everything about being gay is very open & part of daily life most of the time ( Netherlands )

In some countries people still have to fight to get laws passed to be treated & seen as equals in a partnership/ marriages or adoption issues...I don't get why people feel so threatened by it...maybe I never will. In my eyes every person is as valuable & worthy of the rules that apply as the next person.

I love the fact that, when I asked my Mum once, if any of her 4 kids was gay/ lesbian, would she mind...She answered in all honesty "She would be ok, if that meant the person was really happy in their life" Now, that is all one could ask for! And frankly all that matters....

So I hope you are happy :icon_wink:

Wow Jacks; I wish we were like the Netherlands & your Mum is great :icon_wink: It's still hard in the U.S. Not long ago L word actress Leisha Hailey got thrown off an airplane for kissing her girlfriend. and I don't even want to get into Asia; which is so traditional though there is a burgeoning gay rights movement there. Russia is terrible now.

So I'm with earthcake and saying it's fine & speculate all you like about people's sexuality, being where we are. It's worse not to talk about it; like you shouldn't. And gays & lesbians do it all the time: we wonder about Queen Latifah, Condoleeza Rice (former Secy of State) Elena Kagan (US supreme court)....& btw Johnny pings my gaydar I think he's bi too.

I am very much in favor of people being open about their sexuality, especially celebrities, since, as you say, this puts forward positive role models and makes it easier for others to be open. That being said, I like it more when it's done in the way Jim did it, as a matter-of-fact mention in some specific context in an interview and not as a tabloid cover story. Making a big deal of it seems to me, somehow, to defeat the very purpose of stating it to create an acceptance of it as a normal and personal thing. It's for this same reason that a thread titled 'is he gay' doesn't feel agreeable to me, because it seems to highlight the issue as something major and 'different', if you will. IMO, ideally there should be nothing more sensational about a celebrity being gay than about a celebrity being straight.

Of course, my own country is still miles behind in these matters; so I speak from a general sense of how I feel the situation should be.

Yes, in the name of Celestia, thank you.

I'll say it again, I've wondered about Johnny being bi. He does strike me as the kind of guy that would not care to reveal if he was gay. However, I know that many people have a harder time coming out as bisexual. It's seems as if bisexuality is kind of sneered on more than being gay or lesbian. You're labeled as "unsure".

Also if sometimes I wondered about it. Maybe we should see some Johnny tracks that make people think he's gay or bi, besides he does with his hands? lol

I mean, I wouldn't care if he was hetero, gay or bi, I don't sleep with him. LOL but it would be interesting to try to get a real answer.

earthcake it's true; bisexual people do have a harder time; but it's not 'undecided' it's the idea that they're 'greedy!' On top of that bi men are viewed as basically gay by gay men, bi women as primarily straight by lesbians. Furthermore many gay people see bisexuals as always having the 'easy' way out by joining the straight community. Not fair. I tend to agree with Freud who saw human sexuality as primarily bi. So straight-bi would be the majority norm, which makes sense to me.

if Johnny has a boyfriend then we'll know :icon_wink:

+1 Jacks. In this day and age, a persons' sexual orientation should be socially irrelevant and a personal matter. I've never understood why people with strong views for or against issues like sexual orientation, religion, abortion, etc. need to impose their beliefs on others.  I mean no one is forcing or stopping them from acting upon their beliefs, yet they feel entitled to condemn and impose on others who don't share their ideals. It really creams my corn.

Me either. Few know this, but Hitler was gay. He wasn't out out but he was gay. I don't care two cents. I think some people are just curious.

Hitler gay?

weird, considering his regime was decidedly anti gay.

I mean at the turn of 19th century, berlin was the place for gay people. It had the nightclubs and cabarees and so on, and it was pretty much the only place in europe where gay people could come out the closet and let your hair down.

But Hitlers regime changed all that. Which is weird if the old bean really was gay...

/FACEPALM/

They also say Hitler was a vegetarian. Apparently that's a good reason not to be a vegetarian.

Both of these things are still debated. Which is stupid. Hitler and his ideas about society were gross, and he's long gone now.

long gone? are you sure? some say he is still alive, and that his double died at the bunker!

Still, I feel sorry for Hitler. He was a promising youn painter (google his paintings if you do not believe!) but got cold shoulder from society because he had no connections or money. And that's what drove him bitter.

Yup Jim is gay & he's such a sweet guy; makes it even better :icon_biggrin: I hope this thread helps someone out there who needs a successful gay out hero to emulate. That's why it's good to see it in big letters, because right now in a lot of societies people don't want to talk about it; It makes them uncomfortable; but you know what - people can deal and they get over it.

He was also thought people should be blonde hair and blue eyed, he was neither.

Sure, he's still alive. A spry 123 years old and the secret power behind Al-Queda. The Islamists are just a facade. Hitler is running the show...

I don't think he's 'out' and proud. He was never 'in'. He's just Jim Parsons and he's a great example for celebrities, gay or straight, on how to live a relatively normal, functional existence. He is who he is and to the extent that he can he keeps his personal and private life just that. Personal and private. I think he's a phenomonal talent and he seems to be a genuinely good person. I'm very happy for him and hope he continues to enjoy success and happiness in both aspects of life, public and private. Edited by HeWolf
