bigbangsheldon Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 what i like about jim is that his sexuality was never a big deal and never will be unlike other celebs
Pomita Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 I don't think he's 'out' and proud. He was never 'in'. He's just Jim Parsons and he's a great example for celebrities, gay or straight, on how to live a relatively normal, functional existence. He is who he is and to the extent that he can he keeps his personal and private life just that. Personal and private. I think he's a phenomonal talent and he seems to be a genuinely good person. I'm very happy for him and hope he continues to enjoy success and happiness in both aspects of life, public and private. Truest words about Jim. TommyBoy Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Regardless of Jim's sexual orientation, He is an amazing actor and if we all got to know him as a person I am sure he would be just as amazing as the character he plays, if not more so It's really irrelevant wether he is gay or not. MaryPea Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Actually, from what I know, earlier this year he gave an interview to The New York Times saying that yes, he was gay and was in a relationship for 10 years.Actually, from what I know, earlier this year he gave an interview to The New York Times saying that yes, he was gay and was in a relationship for 10 years. annieogly Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Jim is gay, full stop. He's a great actor and actually it is important that he's out as all over the world gay people still have issues (just ask my Saudi and Chinese lesbian friends) so to be in a giant hit, universally liked, even loved is important and he's a super ambassador. Moonbase Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Indeed! Jim is wonderful, talented and gay! It matters that it's known and that he doesn't make a big thing of it. It's not all he is. Love him! Love that he's out.
nerdywordy Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) Indeed! Jim is wonderful, talented and gay! It matters that it's known and that he doesn't make a big thing of it. It's not all he is. Love him! Love that he's out. While I'm glad for his own sake that he hasn't made his personal life quite as public as many famous people do, I see it as a negative sign for society that like the majority of gay American actors, he feels the need to ensure that he never gets asked any relationship-related question on TV whatsoever. You're right that the danger is it will be seen as "all he is", limiting the range of roles offered, but the problem is how incredibly easy it is for that to happen if your sexuality is gay, and how incredibly hard you have to work at getting a sexuality-based identity if you're straight. Even Russell Brand is not reduced to being nothing more than his sexual desires, despite what appear to be his best efforts to make that happen. Straight actors, over the course of many interviews, will reference their partners now and then, talk about past relationships or dates, state preferences for a partner, behave flirtatiously, mention being attracted to others etc., without being typecast or turning some of their fans against them. I feel bad for Jim that throughout the hundreds of interviews he's given by now, he's never done any of those things. It can't be a coincidence, and I don't think it's prudishness either. Neil Patrick Harris seems happy to take the risk because he was already well-established for playing a believable promiscuous straight character when he was outed. He and his partner are like the gay Brad and Angelina, VERY accommodating to the media, but that's a special case, very much an exception and not the rule. MJistheBOMB Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 You know why he keeps that on the down low? Because he's SMART. It's no one's business. Sure, we are nosy and want to know but again, none of our business what goes on between he and Todd. The most successful celebrity relationships I have ever seen are those who keep their damn mouths shut. THOSE are the kind of relationships that last a long time. We never hear any personal business about Jay-Z and Beyonce either and look how long they've lasted. They're smart people. We can probably list a lot of people who don't put their entire relationships on blast to the world who have lasted a long time. If everyone knows everything...it's never a good thing. Way to go Jim. Monique I agree with you. I don't think it's wise to share intimate details, do photo-shoots, or for the person who's not in the industry to give interviews, like Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen Degeneres (and a far greater proportion of famous hetero-sex couples) do. That would seem to add complications and strain to a relationship to me. I just mean that there's private, and then there's... a monk-like persona. No indication of being a sexual or romantic being whatsoever, over the course of hundreds of interviews. I mean yes there has been the occasional sly verbal hint just that he's not straight, but they only seem to be meant for those already predisposed to pick up on them due to having half-decent gaydar or having seen the photos or footage of him with Todd. Simon and Kunal are private and strike a balance that doesn't seem so forced. If you compare their interviews and Jim's with respect to casual references to marital status, dating experiences, attraction etc. - nothing very revealing or personal at all - there's just nothing whatsoever of that from Jim. I'm not criticising him for that, I just think it's sad, because I can imagine that the reason is that "casual" references to those same things would be MADE into a big deal or trigger some kind of political commentary by the interviewer, and given far more significance by the media and even Hollywood casting directors, if he made them. Even the intensely private Johnny has mentioned or answered pre-arranged questions about his private life on rare occasions. He even allowed himself to be photographed kissing his girlfriend, not so long ago. Edited December 11, 2012 by nerdywordy
Shel_Ra_Ho_Le Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 (edited) Gay? Not gay? Who cares? Those that make this thread keep going are making a bigger deal out of it than anyone. I say no one on this earth other than Jim and God know FOR SURE so stop acting as its a FACT! That shit pisses me off most. Until he literally says the words 'I'm gay.' its NOT a fact. As much as its none of our business, its also none of your business to post so called 'facts' til it becomes a fact. There I am done on the matter. I see him more than most ppl who post here and I dont even know for sure! Dont get me wrong, I think he is and I'm perfectly fine with it since he's a nice guy but its not like Clay Aiken where we know for sure because he fully came out. Guest I'm not dead Cheryl Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 (edited) Regading Jim's sex life... Is time I come forward with this....., the truth is, we've been having a secret love affair for the last 6 years. It is so secret he doesn't even know it yet. I'm a gay man trapped in a woman's body. p.d.: Who cares what his sexual orientation is? it is his business, not ours. Honestly, I don't care if he is into guys, girls or sock puppers LOL. I'm taken anyway!!! :´P Edited December 12, 2012 by Sursonica
Sherminator Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 One thing people should know about gayness, is that it's something you are born with. So, it is not a disease, or a lifestyle choise. I mean sexuality is like a skin colour. What you are born with, you are stuck with. (unless you are Michael Jackson, the whitest darn black that ever lived!) Just wanted to point that out. He doesn't talk about it, but he's seen in public with Todd and mentions him in his acceptance speeches, etc., so I don't think it's really a question of rumor or "guessing". I just think that he chooses not to talk about it--and I imagine it's an off-the-table topic for talk shows and interviews, because I think that otherwise someone would have asked him about his lovelife before, with all the interviews that he has done. I just love him for his acting and because he's so dang cute and charming.

You think he is but you're not sure? Is that what you're saying? How is you "thinking he is" any different from other opinions here? Please don't be hypocritical and call out others for doing what YOU just did. By that I mean, I think a LOT of us think he is...doesn't mean we're saying it's a true "fact"...it's just an opinion which we are free to express. MJistheBOMB Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Anyway, I think we're ALL in agreement that it doesn't freakin' matter. Also, I think it's okay to have discussions. What's NOT okay is homophobia (not that I'm accusing anyone....just saying). Monique

Shamyfan Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) As long as he's happy with who ever he's with I'm happy. He doesn't have to say straight out that hes gay. It is known and by pictures and body language. Todd isn't his best friend, a agent of his, a family member. That is his partner. Which is awesome. I'm so happy that Jim found a love and has been with him for a long time. In the NY post, he told the reporter that he was in a commited relationship for 10 yrs. They would not have known if Jim didn't tell him. I am proud tht Jim came out in a nonchalant way and made no big announcement. Straight ppl don't come out straight. I'm proud of Jim My brother is gay. And I'm so proud and love him to death. As long as he's happy Im happy. It's not a choice to be gay.
