stupid lollypop (what else, I forgot? :icon_lol:) demographic

Lollypop Guild

:icon_cheesygrin:

I coined the term to describe the posters on the "Fan Forum" Because:

Raj used it in an episode

They all write in an annoying "cutesy" icon filled way

They tend to sing the same song in unison

They are living in a fantasy land

I like "fantasy land" is much happier than bitter land for sure.. we have unicorns, and rainbows and candy.

Also, even if the show has been 'dumbed down' to it's present state as some of you claim, it's technically incorrect to say it's the Lollypop Guild who are living in a fantasy land. That would be you, living on in dreams of Season 1/2 and the sad vicious bitterness of frustration.. we prefer to live in the reality of today. :)

I guess the next "Question" should be which one are "YOU"......Found it to be as 4ofN put it "Spot On" with the characteristics shown in these forums.I have a definite better understanding of the responses given in these types of threads.Just a honest observation from a informative read.

This article is quite a brilliant listing.

Going through it all, hmm, I seem to see a few Purists and Elitists around here.. and perhaps a reflection of myself in Misplaced Champion? Well, at least I'm self-aware. :)

...Is disgusted one of those trolls I hear about ... I'll ignore any posts disgusted might make in response to this .....

The workings of the open mind are a beautiful thing.

Quote some actual facts from a reputable source and you might make some headway with the rest of us

Please cite a study that states sitcom viewers are smarter than average.:icon_cheesygrin:

I would view a study from the entertainment industry about how they target their viewers with the same suspicion with which I would view a study about the health risks of cigarette smoking paid for by the smoking industry.

Facts have been stated. Sources given. They have been ignored.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ViewersAreMorons

As far as the Onion article, I will use a Sheldon quote " It's funny... because it's true."

And finally, one more:

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FanDumb

The thing that perplexes me is that how an opinion that the show is not as smart and funny as it once was can somehow be twisted into "You are calling me stupid!" That's not true. There's every chance y'all won't fall into the general demographic. I'm pulling for y'all.

Th eline from Mr. jensen

"it's a superficial take on a very deep culture"

is spot on and you.I and 4ofN have stated how Lorre has treated women as objects and nothing more and his comparison to BBT and family guy...wow. I didn't connect it since I watched 3 episodes of family guy and had to wash my brain, but I concur, endless references to nostaglia isn;t comedy, it's lazy

And bringing up IT Crowd and Community as true geek shows...the man is inside my head but has superior writing skills than me.

Anyway, I have no problem with the "Toxic genius with a mix of misguided champions" that now rule these boards.

I say my piece, backed by facts and get swarmed by the SS of Lorreizm. That is fine, I have stated that the show has passed upon it's 1st 3 seasons of excellence and become something 'different'

I mean, even if one doesn;t accept all my statements on how it has sent a precendent on how a show went from brillant to crap in one season, can they look at posts last year and now and see...99% of the posters HAVE CHANGED? That says more than I could

I am glad people like it, I hope they get whatever it is they want out of it...but it had the promise to be something important and a cult classic like Mystery Science Theater 3000 and it went commercial and horrible...and did so w/o most of the writers or a star leaving (which is how most shows start a decline and flame out)

That is disappointing but not the end of the world. Lorre and Prady like money and sold a product to get the most $$$ they could...90% of the world does that...no harm, no foul

And Raj and Penny never slept together.

This is true, but only Raj and Penny know that. Raj would rather everyone thinks he slept with her, and made her promise to not tell anyone what really happened. And, they would have slept together if Raj wasn't so quick on the draw. =) But in the end, no, they didn't do it. At best he can say he got a hj from her.

the answer to why the show has changed is simple:

because it got popular... and because it's 5 years later.

the writers cannot write episodes as if we're still in Season 1.

the characters have developed, the story lines have developed, and you gotta go with the changes.

in Season 1, Penny was more ditzy/innocent towards the guys.

but clearly they can't keep her character exactly the same way for all these years, especially now that she's friends with the guys.

people grow, people change, ratings go up, writers write...

Absolutely true! I totally agree with you! Penny got the hang of talking to Sheldon and the other guys that´s right I mean she knows them for five years now so thats normal when you live next to someone for so long.

And also Howards has changed but in a good way. Love him now. He has Bernadette and she´s a lovely and funny girl.

And Sheldon has Amy thanks to Howard and Raj. Why didn`t Sheldon said thank you to them? Because its not like him.

Newsflash. Sheldon and Penny will never get together. And Raj and Penny never slept together. Get it straight.

Heh, heh, heh.

You're always good for a joke Slicknickshady. "Raj and Penny never slept together". Hilarious.

(P.S. Lets do this. A few days ago Kelkie, a new member, said she didn't know what a flame war was. Do you want to get into it just like the good old days for her?)

4ofN: Now, just to get it straight: Raj and Penny never had penetrative intercourse.

Your turn...

Newsflash. Sheldon and Penny will never get together.

Newsflash. Nothing is written in stone, if the show continues, there's no telling who will get together with whom. :icon_cheesygrin:

As for Penny and Raj not sleeping together, they got naked together, but didn't achieve penetration due to Raj's subpar performance. That's very different from "not sleeping together". :icon_wink:

A flame war is silly, destructive and sometimes outright psychotic. :icon_lol:

I guess a fandom wouldn't be a proper fandom without rabid fans and flame wars, but that's why normal people outside of fandoms usually look at "fans" with mild alarm and gentle concern. :icon_cheesygrin:

Amy is not a dull character.she is funny and some of the most funny episodes are centered around shamy.penny and sheldon just wont go together, they work better as friends and him being condescending towards her.

I agree. The Sheldon/Penny chemistry is scintillating as friends and antagonists, but IMO not romantic at all.

@disgusted - The reason for this comment: "I'll ignore any posts disgusted might make in response to this..." was an attempt to avoid a flame war.

Yes, and when I didn't respond at first you felt the need to post again. I was just quoting you for context.

The posts you made prior to this, such as this one: "The show turning to crap is one thing, but the utter vapidity/vacuousness of some of the posts on this forum is mind-boggling." seemed to indicate a troll looking to start trouble.

You might want to look up hyperbole in the dictionary.

I am willing to discuss anything with anyone but comments like that last one really do not indicate a willingness to have a discussion.

Ah, the y'all. I was going to use "you" in the second person, to refer to those who in general don't see my point, but I thought it might be misconstrued. I certainly don't want to be accused of attacking someone personally, I'm already on the "watch list". :icon_cheesygrin: Y'all is second person plural, according to my dictionary. That's why I used it. The fact that it references a stereotype is just, as Amy would say, "A happy accident"

I never indicated that sitcom viewers are smarter than average, I have no idea where that came from.

Logically, because my contention is that TV in general wants "dumb" viewers, your contention must be that TV viewers are average or above. If you want to demand "facts" from me, I should be able to ask them of you. How convienient for you that you don't provide any "facts" to buttress your position.

Let's see, ugo.com and tvtropes doesn't seem to be any higher on the scale towards facts than the onion. Those particular articles looked like opinions to me.

Here is a fact. NPR is slanted to the so-called intelligent viewer, yet they beg for money every chance they get. Sitcoms make millions for the network, the actors, and producers, and no-one would call them "highbrow" programming. My take: "dumb=popular" YMMV

Tell me how your comment that I quoted above was misinterpreted from a comment that "the show is not as smart and funny as it once was" to "you are calling me stupid". Is it possible my English is so bad that I misread "utter vapidity/vacuousness"?

Well.....

i saw that tweet also, sound

what is the f me refering to?
I was talking about Alicia the one that moved a floor above the guys and penny got jealous of and got into a fight with someone like that if penny left, but I don't know if she's upset, wouldn't we hear something or even a rumor and I don't think the writers are writing penny like this on purpose in case Kaley ever did leave, why wouldn't they just have her get her big break in like a movie where she'd have to leave for a few months and never come back but have the guys mention her from time to time and have one of them say that her from her to let's us know that she hasn't forgot about them and have like a movie poster of a made up movie that she's in at some point to let everyone know she made it big and isn't coming back and they get a new female neighbor, but I just can't see her leaving though
I like the first twenty seconds of it after that it's just MEH!
