I'm sure the show will continue to get great ratings but it's no longer unique. They've sold out. And before the estrogen crowd starts throwing their purses at me, the second the show ended my wife turned to me and said - "They've ruined it." I find this attitude very interesting. You are sitting there with your wife, in the comfort of your home and a committed loving relationship, and jointly wishing on these characters a lifetime of singlehood, frustration and loneliness. I mean, how dare they get married? The horror! People watch shows to escape their RL. If you were just going to watch a show that was your RL, you already do that 24/7. CBS has the two broke girls and how I met your mother as a hour finale, Also there was two new episodes back to back to start the season off. I'm not complaining about Howard getting married. I like the show because its about smart people and I like it because its really funny.But if they didn't change through. The course of the seasons then it would be just unrealistic!!! Leonard + Penny Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Loved this episode -Sheldon was more of himself, I couldn't stop laughing when he started talking in Klingon during the wedding. -Howard's gift + speech in wedding was beautifully done. -Hand holding was so touching, it shows how much everyone really cares about Howard. I was surprised to see Sheldon hold Amy's hand, I think that's the biggest human side of him we've ever seen on the show. - Amy was getting carried away with the whole maid of honor thing yet again, she was obnoxious as usual. - Penny looked pale and bored pretty much 75% of the episode - Raj was drunk in every scene with the girls for as long as I can remember, looks like we won't be seeing the mute side of him again. I hope Raj gets a girlfriend in season 6. Shocked me, because for the most part from what I gather penny can't stand Howard and even called him out once that got him all depressed. "The Countdown Reflection" was watched by 13.30 million people, down by around 610,000 people from the previous episode. The Big Bang Theory scored a 4.2/15 rating in the 18-49 demo, down from 4.7/16 last week. The show scored a 5.5/17 rating among adults 25-54 and a 2.8/11 rating among adults 18-34. The Big Bang Theory finished first in total viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49. Compared to last year's season closer, the fifth season finale was up by 20% in adults 25-54, up 17% in adults 18-49 and added 2 million viewers. Leonard + Penny Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Looking forward to watching it again today. No one has mentioned this yet, but the scene where they showed them in the justice of peace office and amy was wearing that bridemaid dress with her tiara on, I just LOL like crazy. Poor Amy, she really needs to be the belle of the ball at least once. Always a "bridesmaide" and never a "bride".....But yes Bazingafan there is a "Santa Clause" and I am brushing up on my klingon for that "wedding" Hint..Hint..Hint..... Except Amy's probably never been a bridesmaid before, which is why she acted like she did. Sheldon was his typical self in that he took a situation that was about his friends and made it about himself. Amy has some good stuff as well, like Sheldon she spends a good chunk of the time making this event about her as well. Leonard made it about himself as well, which seems to be the case nearly any time he seems to make a speech nowadays. Aside from that, I did enjoy the episode, although I liked last week's episode more. I liked the reference to Sheldon's dilemmas with gift-giving, and his holding Amy's hand at the end. I was really surprised they decided to show that, but it made me feel warm inside haha. I am however disappointed we didn't get to see Bernadette's mom... or Howard's mom. This isn't a new development with Leonard he's done that throughout the series. true, he did the same in The Pants Alternative when he started rambling about his mother before introducing Sheldon It's due to Leonard's need of approval steaming from his childhood. I disagree with you 100%, how is ruined? How have the sold out? Is it because they have relationships, if that's the case the show has been about that throughout the series with a slice of nerd and science sprinkled in, not like the past season but for the most part it has. Agreed. Hasnt leonard for example been in love with Penny basically since the first episode? I don't see the difference other then there are ACTUAL GIRLS. I do think they have ruined Howard though. Au contraire. In my experience, the people most passionately invested in fictional relationships are typically single, or their relationships are lacking. That's why they're living vicariously through their favorite characters. Those of us in meaningful relationships or happy being single don't need sitcoms to fill the gaps in our lives. I thought it was a fun episode at times & at times a bit too much bickering among friends during a wedding..but that's my opinion Last week I thought was one of the best this season. It was nice to have a ending that was not a cliffhanger like last time. Thought the flashbacks & space moments were done well. Howard really was good & I liked Mike Massimino a lot in this. He does have good comedy timing. Loved Howard's remark to his Mom about Bernadette being the only woman that could yell at him after the wedding! We're still not doing that, no matter how relationship-y this gets - none of us got married a day before blasting into space, and had people reeling off Klingon during the ceremony. It's about feeling some degree of empathy with the characters, and wishing them well. I wouldn't want to see any of them in a really bad relationship, no matter how funny they try to make it, because it wouldn't be funny to me - I would just be feeling sorry for them. Similarly, I wouldn't like to see them lonely and frustrated all their lives, even if that's supposed to be more enjoyable. (This is the reason I feel sorry for Raj at this point). After seeing and loving a show for years, I think it's natural to start feeling a human connection with the characters. For TBBT, it's very much so, because these guys are so relatable and vulnerable in different ways. It's hard for me now to just think in terms of making fun of them and laughing at their expense. That aspect will always be there, but I do want to see their moments of personal growth and fulfillment too. Even if it's 'just a sitcom'. It's not about ratings. I'm sure the show will stay popular for years by appealing to those who want to get teary-eyed and absorbed in the romantic relationships. I'm sure you'll all be absolutely giddy and the ratings will soar when Sheldon and Amy finally realize their true love for each other and hop into bed. But that's not what the show was about for the first 4 seasons. Sheldon was a totally unique character and in the quest to milk the ratings they've put him on the path of being just another goofy, lovesick guy who already existed on countless sitcoms in the past. TBBT was a rare intelligent sitcom that has decided to sell out it's premise for ratings. It could have been a contender for best sitcom ever, not it's just a rehash of "Friends" with Leonard/Penny and Sheldon/Amy in the Ross/Rachel roles. The shark has officially jumped. Is it true that just anyone can go on the Internet can be ordained to perform a wedding?? Why did the gang think it was a cool idea to have the wedding so that it would be photographed by Google Earth? they did it in Friends, when Chandler & Monica got married, Joey got ordained on the internet to marry them.
