I know there are at least two different ones, because Penny's hair was different in season one. Plus Raj was wearing the baseball hat, which he only did in the aired pilot. They might think of adding Amy and Bernadette, since they're regulars now. I'm kind of neutral on this - I like having only the core 5 in the opening shot, but I also wouldn't mind if the other two are fitted in somehow. (Though not sure how they'd do it -at the two ends? BUT, Mayim & Melissa are not in every episode. It could probably be argued that there was enough of Leonard on-screen with her at any given time, in TPGE. But I do think that this one as well as Isolation Permutation both focused on her as a character. TPGE brought out her fun-loving and awkwardly sociable side, and TIP showed her vulnerable side. As you said, Penny never really had an episode focusing on her, apart from Barbarian Sublimation which was about her descent into gaming addiction as a result of personal frustrations (but even this had more screen time with Sheldon/Leonard, probably). Penny never had a storyline by herself. What about The Work Song Nanocluster, or the Dead Hooker Juxtaposition? I think Work Song was very much a group episode, with some great Sheldon/Penny scenes. Dead Hooker.. one might say that, because it spent some time on showing how jealous/protective Penny felt. But almost equally, the focus was on how the guys behaved around the new girl. Obviously, because it was TBBT before they were ever in it. But if Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, Howard or Raj left it would not. There is the core cast and the core core cast. I think it' because I can't imagine Sheldon without Amy, or Howard without Bernadette, any more. They've become so important to these characters' lives and personalities, at present.
