Camille Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I have a feeling that season 6 will be dominated by the Amy/Sheldon relationship leading up to the ratings-smashing episode where they have coitus. Bet the farm on it. That would be too predictable. I fully expect Sheldon regressing quite a lot (from fear) before he makes that leap. Agreed. If the premiere picks up Immediately after the handhold (which it might, this seems to be meant as a Key Growth Moment for all of them), the first words out of Sheldon's mouth may likely be a terror/denial response of "EEK! Don't touch me! Girlfriend Agreement Violation! *flees to bedroom*" and we'll get some 2 steps forward, 1 step back drama till he realizes he wants Amy in his life and feels safe with her in his life. ekap2 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I like Amy, in small doses, I don't think she should ever be the main subject of an episode, but I understand that as her b/friend is Sheldon she will be front and centre a few times. more than Bernadette should be. I too wish they would stop her "hitting" on Penny, that would probably make her character more likeable to more people. I have a feeling that season 6 will be dominated by the Amy/Sheldon relationship leading up to the ratings-smashing episode where they have coitus. Bet the farm on it. Which man? This would completely end he series, you know how many would be pissed off?

BigBang Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I think people only will be pissed off if a story is not done well. A good writer can sell ANYTHING to fans. Penny falling for Amy, Sheldon sleeping with Leonard, Raj marrying Beverly - as long as the story is entertaining and told convincingly, anything goes, IMO. It's just a sitcom. ekap2 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Pomita do you understand the meaning of a rhetorical question? BigBang true BUT it's easier if it's a story that people like
Pomita Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Pomita do you understand the meaning of a rhetorical question? My answer was completely sincere. Go back and look at what you wrote. You said 'This would completely end he series, you know how many would be pissed off?' The question assumes that YOU know that a sufficient number of people would be pissed off for the series itself to be forced to end. You don't, because there hasn't been a census. All you know is that you, and a few other people here, would find it offensive. You're extrapolating your personal opinion onto the public in general. Do you understand the meaning of a statistically significant sample?

Europa Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I'm new to the show, and have been catching up via reruns and on-demand. But I really like Amy. I find her 'hitting' on Penny to be kind of hilarious, mostly because she doesn't seem to be attracted TO Penny so much as she thinks Penny is the epitome of a desirable female, which Amy admires and envies. I also like her relationship with Sheldon. She's enough like him that they will always understand each other and be able to talk to each other, having that relationship of the mind. But she also knows herself and what she needs and wants, and isn't afraid to just go after it - I loved when she just systematically began doing things to make Sheldon feel happy like when he was a kid, in a deliberate attempt to make him love her. Awesome.
HeWolf Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Deal with it Here we go again, the response when nothing else is left to say. This seems to be the fallback response for some people. Maybe it's their way of saying 'neener, neener!'. Perhaps there are some on the forum that Sheldon would characterize as 'typing labro-doodles'. Whatever my viewpoint I try to reply with considered words and thought out responses. Doesn't really seem that hard to do.
Guest I'm not dead Cheryl Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 But she also knows herself and what she needs and wants, and isn't afraid to just go after it - I loved when she just systematically began doing things to make Sheldon feel happy like when he was a kid, in a deliberate attempt to make him love her. Awesome. Agree. That is one of the things I like more about Amy. Despite everything, she is very confident in herself, and she knows what she wants and tries to find ways to get it. Some people say that she's "delusional" when she says things like "my cheekbones and beckoning pelvis have a certain hello sailor quality" or "do you think this place doesn't have mirrors? I know how I look" etc, but I find it great that she has such confidence. Given her backrground, it could have been very easy to make her a totally insecure person, but she is not, and that's part of what makes her such a great character. We have to remember that in spite of all her awkwardness and social setbacks and painful experiences, she's a survivor who has come through with flying colors in her own way. And it is her confidence and resilience which must have helped her to brush off the negativity at each step.

Given her backrground, it could have been very easy to make her a totally insecure person, but she is not, and that's part of what makes her such a great character. Self-confidence and being very comfortable with oneself is what I love about Sheldon and Amy. Penny, Bernie, and Howard also have it, and even Raj has is when he talks about science (winning an argument with Sheldon!). Confidence is a very attractive quality. This seems to be the fallback response for some people. Maybe it's their way of saying 'neener, neener!'. sarah7 Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 I'm quoting you Pomita, to put the link you shared here, hope you don't mind Have a look at this: http://cartermatt.com/18805/2012-emmy-preview-modern-family-community-in-supporting-actress-field/ Especially the poll. "Mayim Bialik, “The Big Bang Theory†(CBS) – If there is anyone from “Big Bang†as deserving as Jim Parsons, it’s Mayim Bialik. Amy Farrah Fowler may actually be the most roll-on-the-floor funny character on the entire show, and her chemistry with Kaley Cuoco and Melissa Rauch has brought a new dimension to a show that was getting a little one-note beforehand." Completely agree with this!
annieogly Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Hey Europa, I'm catching up on the show too & love it. And completely agree with your take on the Penny-Amy relationship. If you've ever gone to an all girls school, girls get these passionate crushes & Amy's doing this in her fun, sometimes over-the-top way. Socially she's just a teenager. She & Sheldon are so innocent & they should have a long and sweet courtship. I love AFF so much, it's wonderful to see a brainiac, non-obviously beautiful female character. And yeah, I'd kill to have a science nerd girlfriend like her:)
Superlovelexi Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Amy is awesome character and provides so much life and levity to the show. Mayim Balik is just terrific in the role and constantly makes me laugh. I think both Amy and Bernadette add much needed emotional quality to the show and give people chance to see what female nerds are like not just male ones. Amy and Bernadette are just as smart as the guys sometimes more so and yet also able to turn these childish nerd boys into childish nerd men lol and that is HUGE!! Amy's effect on Sheldon is most compelling and far more interesting than any other relationship he has on the show because it provides Sheldon with a chance to grow intelluctually, emotinally and physically as a man. This show would be far less interesting with her IMHO and I dont think she is leaving anytime soon so people better just get use to it! Right from Sheldon's muted, resigned acceptance of the girls' antics in the bar, to his agreeing to dance, and finally the small intimate scene at Amy's flat.. it was comedic gold and character growth in the best kind of mix, not to mention winning Jim his second Emmy. Jim always comes across as very glad and grateful for being given the new Sheldon/Amy dynamics to play out. He and Mayim seem to have an unusual kind of 'intellectual' chemistry. I actually thought he was pretty good..It made me wonder if Jim Parsons would ever consider doing DWTS I'd totally root for him to do something so unSheldony in real life. I love when listening to panel at Comic Con 2011 where someone asks about the kiss and Jim says he felt honored to kiss her. that just warms my heart and Mayim even said kissing him was her favorite moment of season 4 so you know they both liked it. I know Jim is gay, but it annoys me when people think that just because he is that means he can't generally enjoy kissing a female because my gay and straight friends have both told me before that kissing someone you like/respect is nice no matter if they're male or female its about the individual.
