I don't think there can be the slightest doubt that Penny was making a rather good but perhaps unprofessional joke about the 75-year-old man with an erection wrt the erectile disfunction drug. What I was asking was not what Penny said had happened to her, but isn't it rather dangerous to pick up random guys in the bars and gyms of LA?

Doesn't matter if Sheldon's guesstimate was accurate or not. She is a fully grown woman who (was at the time) young free and single.

She could have let the entire line up of the 1996 Chicago Bulls have at it and it would be nobodies business but hers.

And, for what it's worth, neither Sheldon nor Amy (disastrously faulty miscalculation from normal distribution notwithstanding) seemed actually phased in any real way by the number of lovers Penny had had. Amy's earnest question about social mores and how Penny saw herself seemed to be anthropological curiosity, 'To your mind, are you a slut?' As in, either answer ('Yes' or 'No') would have been dissected in numerical terms rather than moral. The writers' conservatism may sneak through in other ways (and my God I hate when it does), but I never for a moment thought that either Sheldon or Amy during that interaction were judging Penny for the number of sexual partners she had had.

And neither should they! God forbid a single adult female should exercise her sexual agency. Oh right, I forgot, it's not her body, but the property of her eventual lord and master. If she has given away his property once, who knows whether she might not again?

She complained that previous boyfriends had cheated on her, but said something to the effect that she should have known because that's how she got them in the first place. ie Some of her boyfriends had been in relationships and cheated on their previous girlfriends with the single Penny. Penny never cheats - that's a given of her character.

Wether or not she is a slut, is always a question of opinion, since there is no real definition for it, as far as I know.

To me, it seemed the writers painted Penny in her early years as a slut (or easy if you will), but that was long before the show started.

I think it emerged in later episodes that Amy has a sly way of wrapping her nastiness in a pretence (maybe to herself) of sociological enquiry or experiment: eg when she treacherously tried to turn Penny and Bernadette against each other she mentioned to herself some hypothesis about how groups work.

So you're setting what Penny did at High School against what Lenny did in his 30s? Using Penny's high-school days against her is rather scraping the barrel.

I suspect that those who are most determined to denigrate Penny are Amyacs, so just for comparison let's look at their heroine's record in the same spirit. Considering Amy was a virgin until pester power paid off in 911, her sexual record comes out as surprisingly dubious:

when Sheldon kindly procured Zack for Amy, she was up for it until she saw the emptyness in Zack's eyes. She was going to have sex with a man she'd literally never spoken to;

When Amy had flu, she tricked the innocent Sheldon into physical contact that she experienced sexually, although Sheldon didsn't realise this;

In 721 (I think) Amy tried to seduce poor Sheldon by dressing up as a schoolgirl - a truly disgusting (and perverted) sight;

Amy once said that officially she was engaged to some oil sheikh who'd funded her lab. This has never been mentioned again and was presumably a one-off joke with no story implications, but in the spirit of the Penny-shamers let's hold it against her.  So ever since The Alien Parasite Hypothesis she's being trying to cheat on her fiance.
