Penny's last name?

Well if Penny and Leonard get married at the end of the series it wont be a mystery anymore because we'd know her new real last name is Hofstader so it won't matter much then what her maiden name was.

I don't mind not knowing her maiden name, but I was just curious to know what people might think it is. And I still think they may reveal it later towards end of the series at least I hope so. :) They also mentioned revealing something about why Howard wears that alien pin too.

Actors use stage names. Penny is a waitress that wants to be an actor. She has been involved in one way or another with Leonard for five years. Does anyone really believe he wouldn't know her last name? That Sheldon wouldn't know her last name?

Also, I doubt that the state of California would let her sign Howard and Bernadette's marriage documents without including her full, legal name.

They have never said her last name, so we can only assume that they know it, but that does not mean that they actually know it. Until they say it, none of us know that for sure. And if Penny legally changed her last name before moving to Californan than she wouldn't have to include her original last name on any documentation only the newest legal name. I'm not saying thats what happened I'm just saying its possible since none of us know what her last name actually is or rather or not she ever changed her last name. And we don't know if Sheldon or Leonard know if she changed it either. You're just assuming they know the truth, but Penny has lied before so its not totally unreasonable to think that they may not know the truth, but only think they know.

And maybe they all live in a tiny universe in a locker at a bus station. How far do you want to take this scenario? It could be endless. :icon_biggrin:

I supposed its just as likely that at the center of every black hole there's a little man with a flashlight searching for a circuit breaker. :icon_cheesygrin: But, until i know for certain this scenario is not only improbable, but impossible I'd like to keep my options open lol. :icon_wink:

Well I also have the same one like What if it changes out Penny's last name is same as one of Sheldon's far away family members who comes to check out and that's when Sheldon gurus out and understands he is relevant to Cent or they could do it with one of Leonard's family members and panic Leonard who believes he may have rested with his far away relative.

I like that Chuck Lorre just came up with Penny Jones at Comic Con. I know he was joking, but it makes me think hey if creator of the show says its Jones than thats what I think her last name is for now until he says differently lol

I wonder if it wasn't just a detail nobody bothered to worry about at first but as the show progressed it became a running inside joke. Now it's been so long it needs a good moment for the reveal, like Cosmo Kramer.

When Leonard meets Pennys father, did Leonard say anything like hello Mr.(insert last name here)?

No, if I remember correctly, Penny's dad opens the door and is like, "You're Leonard, right?" and Leonard is seriously confused and then Penny comes to the door and says, "I see you've met my dad." After talking for a couple minutes they go out to dinner and when they come back, Leonard knows his name because he says "Wyatt."

So there wasn't really a, "Hi, Mr. ____________."

I've been watching a ton of reruns and I think at one point (arg can't remember) it was said that Germans and Scandinavians populated Nebraska so that probably, since she's from a farming family would be the ethnic group she's come from. Or the most common Nebraskan surnames. I read that the writers now are superstitious about not giving her a last name.

Since it's the 21 century I expect Penny's to keep her own surname, whomever she marries.

Well let's just eliminate what her last name isn't. I'm sure it wouldn't be the same name as any of the other main characters, such as Cooper, Wolowitz, Fowler, etc, etc, or else it would have been brought up in an earlier episode.

It can't be the last name of any Star Wars or Star Trek character such as Sulo, Kirk, Vader, or Skywalker because I'm sure that would have been brought up. Nor would it be the same name as the Lost in Space charachter Penny Robinson.

It definitely can't be the name of any famous scientists like Newton, Tesla, Farienheight, Newton or Hawking, otherwise Sheldon would have had a hissy fit.

It also wouldn't be a name that they would all make jokes about to her like Penny Lane, Penny Penny or Penny Chesecake.

So that all narrows it down some. Well...at least a little bit.

I think Penny's last name was revealed in a roundabout way. There is an apparent inconsistency in "The Maternal Capacitance" and "The Boyfriend Complexity"

When talking to Beverly, Penny states that her mother called her father "Bob"

Penny's father is called "Wyatt" in the "The Boyfriend Complexity"

How can both these be true?

a guess, Penny's father grew up with a number of Bobs Roberts etc in his class and goes by his last name

therefore PENNY WYATT (plenty of Wyatts in Nebraska)

or

Mom doesn't like the name Wyatt and uses a shortened form of his last name as a term of endearment so Robert(son) is shortened to Bob

I'd also like it if the writers paid attention to the fans and put Lane in as a middle name, (could be Mom's maiden name) or could be more formal

My favorite guess PENELOPE ELAINE ROBERTS

I can just imagine Johnny Galecki finding out the middle name "Your parents named you Penny Lane?"
