Season 6 spoilers

Ok, not sure if part of this a spoiler, so that's why I'm putting it here. Many have commented on how Alex and Raj would make a good couple. However, we all know that Raj has problems talking to women and. As a result, hasn't talked to Alex. We also know, that in upcoming episodes, that "Lucy" will be going out on a date with Raj.

It now seems as if Alex's purpose was to unsettle Penny about the L/P relationship, which, seemingly, has now been worked through. On top of that, Alex filed a sexual harassment complaint against Sheldon. Since Raj is getting a woman to date, the L/P relationship has stregnthend, and she filed a complaint; this would suggest that Alex has no further use in the story.

And yet, she turns up in the Valentin episode. Many have thought that Lucy will turn out to be Raj's love interest. But what if her purpose is to be the woman that cures Raj's mutism and Alex has been kept around to become love interest?

That's what I was thinking too. But it might also be that they're not going to go for Alex at all, maybe it's a bit cliche' to have him start dating the first girl that comes along at work and also, she's a grad student and he's faculty, or whatever he is. But still, her senior. Who knows. I'll wait to see how this Lucy girl turns out, but from the sounds of it I think I might like her a lot.

For whatever reason, that idea popped into my head when I read a preview that mentioned Alex being in the episode, even though I already knew that from the taping report. I just thought I'd share my delusion.

I just already read  report. Thank you for it.

wow, Thanks for the great report!

Can't wait to see the episode, sounds awesome. Could imagine the part with Sheldon pulling out all the toy-stuff out of his bag and pants will be epic. And to see Penny acting on stage too.

I had a short faint-attack when I read about Jim in a tank top. But I recovered and soon I will hopefully stop to drool.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Girls!!!!!

Jim in tank top och  man  I  will definitely aut of the drool...I really can breathe. :icon_razz::wub:

That episode going to be great. Sheldon  will be admire  Penny's acting that's something, and Raj  with new girl. I hope they will help each other with their problems, and maybe, who knows what will  writers do with it .I hope Raj will finally be with somebody I feel sorry for him.

Tensor brings up a good point about Alex. Was there a real need for her to shop for Sheldon's Valentine gift for Amy? For some reason I don't think it's going to work out between Raj/Lucy at least in the long run. Things would be made worse for Raj if Lucy was the one that broke up. If Alex and Raj got together after this though things would get interesting. Raj and Alex hanging out with the gang. Penny would be jealous, Leonard would be nervous, Amy and Bernadette would not be happy. Not only that but Raj/Penny sleeping together in the past. Of course the only way a Raj/Alex can work is if he can talk to her.

does "being hot" then equal being "better" then? Sorry, but I HATE that argument, saying that Sheldon could "do better" only because Amy is not "hot enough?". Because that's what you're saying.

Is not only about tolerating his quirks, is loving him because of them, and Amy said so last episode, She does fund those qualities of him that everybody hates "cute as a button". And she loves him, and she's patient with him and she cares about him a lot, she was there to support him when all the others weren't and is not just because she is his girlfriend, remember on the Thespian Catalyst where everybody was making fun of Sheldon and she was the only one who was trying to cheer him up? They weren't even dating then.

So, no I don't think Sheldon could "do" better than that. And I don't think he needs to. Why would he? He already has someone who loves him for who he is, with whom he shares intellectual compatibility, whom he really cares about and someone who he is even overcoming his phobias for. It surely doesn't look like he would "need" or even want someone else.

And yeah, Amy did not have any friends before him, she said so herself and talked about the times that the girls she though they were friends with her mocked and shunned her again and again. Pretty much like Sheldon didn't have any friends before Leonard and the guys either, so if we apply the same reasoning:. Does that then make Sheldon's purpose to "reconstruct" Amy to be his perfect woman? hmmm no.

Yes, all of that.  As Sursonica essentially said, in what way do people mean one could do "better" than the other?  It sounds like Amy meant she treats him well, and she does--in all the ways Sursonica outlined above.  Also, with the exception of an initial adjustment of being in a relationship for the first time, he's pretty sweet to her too.  He shows his affection in his own way and tries to meet her needs.  Sure, he doesn't give her the physical side of the relationship she wants, but the writers have made it clear recently that it won't be forever and she's willing to wait.  It seems the two of them are exceptionally well-suited to each other, it's a mutually supportive, loving, and satisfying relationship, and there's no dysfunction.  Nobody's perfect, but two people can be very nearly perfect for each other--and nobody can do "better" than that.

I don't think that they're going to go down the road of Alex becoming Raj's girlfriend after all.

And now I don't mind. When she was first introduced it seemed like the logical path, but I kind of like the way they've used her.

In some ways I think that she would have been a little too strong for Raj. It's not that he's dumb, but that he's kind of tender.

For all his talk about sex, etc., he's really a softie.

Alex is smart and confident, and though she knows the guys, I don't know that she has developed any sympathy or real understanding for Raj and his predicament.

I like that Lucy also has a weakness. They will both have things to overcome and are on more equal footing than he would have been with Alex.

In some ways, Raj and Lucy could be a little like Sheldon and Amy--two people who have the potential to be great for each other if they can get over their individual issues.

But I like the fact that she reached out to him first, and that even if they struggled at first, they're both willing to try again.

I'm really looking forward to seeing if this can go forward.

Some people have been concerned that if Raj gets a steady girlfriend that adding another cast member and couple will take time away from the other characters. But I think they can stretch the development of their relationship over time, with not a lot of time onscreen.

Who knows? Maybe Raj's relationship will be part of what happens in the May sweeps.

Adding another member to the cast was one of the reasons I was thinking of Alex as a girlfriend for Raj. The comedic possibilities could be better with Alex. Her and Penny meeting on the stairs when she is coming over to confer with Sheldon, or their meeting within the interactions of the group, or the possibilities between the Raj and Leonard (or the rest of the group for that matter), because of the tension between the two women just seem too good to me to ignore.

If you want to keep Alex for the tension that would be there even if she isn't going out with Raj, AND keep Lucy around, then they have basically added two new cast members. They can kill two birds with one stone by keeping Alex as Sheldon's assistant and as Raj's romantic interest and keep Lucy in a guest staring role to "fix" Raj. Of course, I'm not one of the writers and I think your reasoning is as valid as mine as to what could happen.

I was thinking of that scenario as a way to get him past the selective mutism--finally.  I think it would be fun to have him play the field for a while, free of the mutism.  He could turn into pre-Bernadette Howard.  That's provided Lucy doesn't "fix" Raj the same way I had my cat fixed.  :icon_eek:

Am I the only person who is not a fan of Alex? She's fine for a few episodes I'm just not interested in her becoming part of the regular cast. There are only so many times I can see this face:  :icon_eek:

Also, I agree with everything Sursonica said re: Amy and Sheldon.  :icon_biggrin:

@tmp. Didn't Amy offer to off Alex? Can she get back in after that? Yes tension. Would escalate Raj too, big time. Two competing camps. And they have that already.

I think you mean to reply to Tensor.  Amy did indeed offer to off Alex, but I think that was a one-off, lol.  I like Alex, but only as an occasional guest star.  She's cute as a once in a while "straight man" (will somebody *please* tell me a better term that doesn't sound like it's referring to a heterosexual male?) against Sheldon's nuttiness.  I also like the idea of Raj getting a gf, but not a permanent one.  I want to see him lose the mutism and then have some fun without it.

It's not quite a one-off. Amy's monkeys are a recurring gag in various situations and she offered to use them to off Priya. AAMOF, they are used in an upcoming episode, just not to off anyone, and get Amy in trouble.

Alex is a recurring character more along the lines of the early versions of Kripke or Stuart. They would pop up when they were needed for a moment, like Kripke taunting Sheldon in Electric Can Opener.

Though she had a more important role in her initial ep and the Egg Salad ep, she really doesn't figure into the main stories. The fact that they use her in the VD episode is just to show Sheldon once again trying to dodge his BF duties. He knows he's expected to give Amy a VD gift, but it's easier to have his grad student flunkie d it for him.

And who knows, maybe her comment about what she had given up in order to work for him might be laying the groundwork for her deciding to leave. Dunno.

I think that they'll eventually give Raj a girlfriend. So they're probably going to be adding a new semi-regular at some point.

Alex looks cute but it is difficult to believe she can be rehabbed after the Egg Salad. Seriously, how could Penny have Alex in her or Leonard's home without the offered beverage being hemlock. How could the other girls also 180 on their stated positions? And if Raj picked her, how could the Hofstadters keep in with Raj. Awkward is not always funny.

Raj/Alex have form believing that someone else's grass is greener, and they are happy to offer to mow that other lawn.

I understand that some find her endearing but I think she is cactus as anything but a guest, unless Tptb invest screen time in "retconning" her. And I don't think she's such an exceptional character to merit that.

I just have to say, I love how L/P have become the Hofstadters in your posts. lol! :)

But I agree, I think they should keep Alex around in a supporting role, even just for her -->  :icon_eek:

Actually, now that Kripke and Sheldon are bonding over Sheldon's imaginary sex life, maybe she can become his new nemesis. She goes bonkers over the way he treats her and just snaps.

Imagine what would Kripke do with her.I mean, how Kripke might relate to her. There is funny waiting there.

Thanks, Monique.   Sounds like it was more of a Shenny episode and not much of a Shamy episode. :icon_cry:  Sheldon and Penny are fun scenes and I enjoy them, but I don't like them taking away from Shamy activities that are unique to them.

I totally agree. To me, it felt like a filler episode, besides Raj and Lucy. The rest just felt like filler space. On an unrelated note, where'd you get your GIF from (the original video)?

You know the Alex character is not clearly defined in the show because some people think she is nice and others think she is a bitch. The writers could therefore use her in another episode to cause problems with Leonard and Penny again. The could make her a little more aggressive next time with Leonard, like her giving him an unwanted kiss at a time when Penny is sure to accidentally see it. Think what trouble that would cause if Penny came around the corner and saw Alex kissing Leonard, it is not in Penny's character to stop and ask what is going on, but to take off mad/hurt. So the writers could bitch out Alex.j

They have already done the Penny jealous / worried storyline twice. Why do it a third time? This isn't a soap opera. L/P is in a great place right now. I don't want the writers messing with their relationship just to keep Alex around.

On to another topic. Tonight's taping. TV.COM indicates that the name of the episode is "The Contractual Obligation Implementation". Do you think this means it will have to do with either Leonard and the Roomate Agreement or Amy making Sheldon do something because of their agreement?

We were talking about that in the other thread. From what we know about the sides/spoilers for that ep, one story is about Raj and Lucy and the other one about Leonard having the career crisis after going to the school to talk to the kids, so I was wondering whether the "Contractual Obligation" might refer to the fact that the university makes the guys go to the school to talk to the kids as part of their job or something. I'd find it weird to have another episode about the Roommate Agreement, and I doubt it's going to be a Shamy ep after so many in a row over sweeps.
