Penny's drinking or lack thereof seems to indicate a maturity on her part in facing her insecurities when it comes to committed relationships. Before she would have simply dumped Leonard and then whinged about it while he date another woman. Now she doesn't panic, has stopped excessively drinking out of unhappiness and understands that she has to be the one to make the moves when it comes to furthering her relationship with Leonard. Quite a lot of progress for our little corn-husker, wouldn't you all say?

This phrase is used for Sheldon a lot but I find it quite fitting for Penny right now:

"Awww, little Penny is growing up!"

It's so true that the drinking is correlated to her maturity level in facing problems, imo. Remember when Amy got drunk in the parking lot and said "I came here to get a bottle of wine like Penny taught me to do when you're sad"? Yet, in the last episode she came home after their disastrous V-day date and was opening up a bottle of water. I think that maybe now that Leonard is easing off a bit with his proposing and she has some room to breathe she might start maturing a lot more.

Of course, that doesn't mean she can't harmlessly drink or even get drunk with her friends every once in a while, but there's a big difference between social-drinking for fun and drinking problems away.

*Nods* And for a while there she was drinking her problems away. It is clear that has changed. Since it coincides with her facing her relationship fears that is the reason for her previous excessive drinking. Hopefully now she can have a good time with her girlfriends but won't resort to drinking out of sheer unhappiness.

I don’t think she needs to become a tea totter, but like I said in a previous post on her character. Seeing a character get hammered once in a blue moon can be funny.  Seeing a character get hammered every other week is not funny and makes a lot of people uncomfortable (least it does me).

It’s fine if she drinks socially and even if once in a great while ties one on, just prefer not seeing what we saw in season four and early five.

Yeah, she did that great lime/kiss scene with Leonard when she was drunk, and that was awesome.  So I don't want her suddenly to swear off drinking either, but I like it that she did stop using it to drown her sorrows over Leonard.

Spoiler Alert!: Big Bang Baby, Downton's

Problem Solved and

Bachelor Final 4 Revealed!

I’d hate to oversell this week’s episode of Spoiler Alert!, but it feels like an understatement to just say that it’s a keeper!

Not only does Matt Mitovich’s and my special guest, The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch, discuss a possible Howard/Bernadette baby, Raj’s “rocky” romantic future and Penny’s stage debut, but she also sizes up The Bachelor’s final four (and the “ballsy” move one of them made).

Heck, she even solves Downton Abbey’s Matthew (RIP!) problem: Lady Mary, she suggests, “should be the next Bachelorette!”

Oh, and as if that’s not enough, we cut the ribbon on TVLine’s new high tech renewal/cancellation headquarters, calculate Touch’s odds of survival and introduce my latest stalker. (Hint: She might look familiar to fans of the Wrestlerettes.)

I just watched that spoiler and they barely said anything about a Howardette baby.  It's even less of a teaser than "somebody might be getting down on one knee" and we know what a big deal (sarcasm sign!) that turned out to be.

Melissa was great in that interview.  I really liked her.  All the actors on this show do great interviews, they seem so happy all the time.  No wonder this show does so well.

She did say she'd been happy lately and that's why she's so freaked about Leonard proposing. Did you notice it was Penny who was worried about Leonard maybe breaking up with her for a change?

Yep, for the first time in the relationship,  she's become insecure about Leonard.  First, wondering if she has to worry about Leonard running off to Alex and now wondering if he was breaking up with her.   She's become vulnerable since she declared her love for Leonard (which is one thing she was worried about back in season 3).   And let's go back to episode 100 when Leonard was analyzing getting back together with her and he mentioned he could dump her, she stares at him and then she says, "be serious".  Of course, in Leonard's mind, at that time, it's something that Penny wouldn't have considered possible.  She now realizes that she may not be Leonard's only option.  Not that I think they are going to have Leonard dump her.  It's just a way, I think, to show the growth, and vulnerability of Penny.

Ok, first of all, my goodness I thought Melissa's bit was only going to be about TBBT and I had to endure 2 minutes of chit chat about stupid reality shows before I decided it would be better to skip ahead, lol.

And secondly, that spoiler is highly misleading the way they advertised it, and thank God for that. I was actually scared for a moment.

I'm finding all the discussion of Penny's progress highly gratifying. There was a time, early in this season, when I was really not liking her much, but now I see they had a plan for her -  thank goodness.

She admitted to Leonard that she's insecure about him, she admitted she has commitment issues, she nearly freaked out when she thought Leonard might be breaking up with her. I do think this couple is more or less, all set. :) Just the last bit of personal growth in Penny is left, and I think a bit of success on the acting front might give that to her.

I can't see Melissa's interview at work, but glad to know that the 'spoiler' is misleading.

I think it is realistic that Penny is struggling a bit with where she is. The next steps in her life with Leonard are huge, since it involves permanence. The sense I get is that she is as happy as she's ever been in her life, but it is very different from what she ever probably imagined. Since things have never worked out for her before, she is trying to guard against the fall she is sure is coming. I think she needs time to wrap her head around what she actually does believe - Leonard will not leave her. Just like with the ILY. She really did love Leonard in a deep and real way, but never actually faced it until the argument about Leonard's insecurity. I slipped out, and surprised her as much as Leonard. I think she believes Leonard won't leave her, but mostly because she is beautiful and the sex is great for him. Funny how after six years, neither Penny nor Leonard feels like they bring much to the relationship. Actually, they bring exactly what the other person needs. Penny is physically affectionate (recall the hugging machine), warm and loving. Leonard is kind, respectful and gentle. Apart from being short, he's also quite handsome and makes good money. He's kept her afloat financially for years. What she needs is a bit more career success, and they're going to make the next steps.

I would be disappointed if they went the route of having any of the cast resort to having babies on the show...unless it were the very last few episodes of the entire series.   I could see someone learning they were pregnant then (but still not seeing any babies)....but there is so much that still could be told with these unique characters without introducing that kind of story.

This. "Frasier" got away with Niles and Daphne having a baby because it was in its final season, which made it work, but doing something like this when a show is in the middle of its run is usually a sign of desperation. It's not needed right now, though a story about a pregnancy *scare* could be doable if handled properly. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S III using Tapatalk 2

Yes a pregnancy scare story is fine...just not it turning out to be a pregnancy unless toward the end of the last part of the entire series (not season...series).   But I honestly think they don't need to go there. These characters have so much more story to tell.  We still have not met Penny's mother, for example and there is a lot of still explaining Penny.   There is a lot of explaining Amy...does she have a father or any siblings?   We know nothing really about her background.  Even Sheldon's family still have a lot we could explore (George, Jr., MeeMaw, etc.).   Howard's father could come back on the scene...other than Raj's parents and Bernie's parents, we haven't met the full family in any other character.   So I think they could unravel a lot more about these characters and what makes them who they are without having to introduce a baby.
