Season 6 spoilers

I don't think Sheldon's a rotten boyfriend per say. I think the problem is that Sheldon was the perfect boyfriend for the original Amy.  The problem is that Amy was the way she was because of circumstances, Sheldon is the way he is because he likes it that way.

I don't want to jump into the usual debate.  However, I'll say that he used to like it that way, but IMO he's showing signs that he likes Amy more.  He seems to want to be a good boyfriend to her even though it's not easy for him.  Recently he indicated that he knows he has a hang-up about the physical and wants to overcome it.

@tmp, @eirwinrommel. I'm torn. Assuming the characters make choice, any choice can be valid.

But, when the characterisations change I find that the newest characterisation is making choices that would not be consistent with the old characterisation.

A sports analogy; are they moving the goal posts or are they becoming better players? The latter is organic growth, the former is creative development to chase the commercial outcome. Another analogy; are they mining to find more of what was there or manufacturing what was not.

I too don't want to flame any old debates, but im sort of hoping this is abstract and applicable enough to be useful.

I suppose it boils down to how invested one is, which is a bit circular and resolves nothing.

And now Im out on character changes. Back to work.

I don't know if they'll use this version or not but one of my favorite parts is when the 3 girls go to see Sheldon in the laundry room to ask him what was in the letter that Howard burned and never saw. After they enter, Sheldon says, "What can I do for you ladies?" Penny says, "Sheldon, you have something we want." Sheldon says, "Ohhh, boy. Mama said stuff like this happens to pretty boys in the big city." LMAO!!!!

True, but then they'll all use the human shield thing to bolster their argument that Sheldon is a rotten boyfriend.

I hope that this episode will please the people that think Sheldon is no longer like the old Sheldon, cos it seems like a great big dose of OCD Sheldon in this one :)

Quit letting the haters ruin your thought process or how you enjoy you show.

I agree.  What makes me the maddest is that they're in my head.  I don't agree with them at all.  I find tremendous sweetness in the way the S/A relationship is moving slowly.  It's fun because it's the 100% opposite of my own relationship.  My husband and I were talking marriage within a week of our first official date, and we're disgustingly lovey-dovey--always holding hands still six years later.  I am a romantic and I must confess, the Shamy taps into it.

Get them out then. Hate is ugly and useless.

My relationship is also NOTHING like S/A but I find it poignant...so haters can find the tallest cliff and jump off for all I care....I love my show and my ship.

Thanks.  I'm having a really hard day (and week), and I appreciate the encouragement.

I find the changes in Amy to be organic. She's just becoming the Amy she probably would have been if she'd had friends when she was younger. Shedon's changes are mainly made in response to Amy's prodding and insistence, and not because he sees a need to or has a desire to change.

I can see that for Amy. I can get the girl crush on Penny. Sheldon's changes are certainly not intrinisic. Which raises the question of choice.

I'm going to discuss this elsewhere, because of i. Incivility b. I don't want to make anyones day worse. Its not meant to be that sort of spoiler thread.

cheers

I think he is trying to change because he wants to. It seems that he's working on his touch issues not because Amy or anyone else has asked him to change, but apparently because he wants to be able to physically express his affection toward her.

I think that all of the characters have exerted change on each other over the years and that's been part of the premise of the show from the beginning.

Oh let me hug you. I wish everyone had your attitude  That's the thing that annoys me right now, I don't care if people have negative opinions or even "hate" but I hate that every thread is turned into that argument. I keep out of so many threads right now it's frustrating. I salute you for wanting to discuss this in a civilized manner/place.

Same here. I find S/A sweet and intriguing (I know many of us do), and it's also okay not to feel that way, but it's sad when every thread gets turned into a series of complaints trashing and belittling the relationship. I'm not an L/P shipper (I like them, I'm not crazy about them) but I choose not to comment about them, for the most part, because I know there are people here much more emotionally invested in them than I am.

I appreciate the confidence shown by Kiru, and argon's grace in not contributing to the negativity.

LOLOLOL :icon_lol: so Sheldon agrees he's a pretty boy. I do hope they keep this take!

The episode is called The Tenure Turbulence. Speculation is that it's probably either Leonard or Amy.

We've talked here of Penny losing her job and having Leonard moving in to help support her, but what if Leonard quits his job(a carryover of his dissatisfaction from The Contractual Obligation Implementation) Penny offers to let him move in. Yeah, I know it was only three or four episodes ago when she freaked about it. But, that was a surprise to her and this time she is the one offering.

It just occurred to me... although it's the least likely scenario out of the possible ones, it could also be about Sheldon getting into trouble because of Alex. Hiring a grad assistant to pretty much only run your personal errands might be something the university is not very happy with, combined with the sexual harassement stuff from earlier this season. Although there have been several Sheldon-centric eps this season already and it does sound a bit too much like 6x12. If he didn't risk his tenure then, I doubt he would now.

From the title though it doesn't sound like it's about a character choosing to quit their job, it sounds more to me like either there's an attempt to get tenure or a risk of losing tenure which causes some sort of turbulence.
