Season 6 spoilers

Issues like this usually have to do with ratings--if the network thinks that an actor isn't appealing, or feels the format isn't hitting the mark with viewers, they may want to revamp a show.

CBS did this with the original pilot, though they stepped in before airing the pilot.  They liked the idea but disliked the tone, etc., but they weren't concerned so much with story line.

But they don't care about the storylines unless the ratings were to suddenly plummet into the basement, and that's not likely to happen.

If the ratings are good, they don't really care what storytelling choices the writers are making.

They made the changes between seasons 1 and 2. deceint ratings in season 1 went into the toilet season 2 (after the demanded changes).

The only time the network can really put any creative pressure on a production company is if the ratings are tanking. With the amount of money CBS is making off this show in ad revenues, they won't do anything but allow the creative team to continue doing what they are doing.

To all:

Neither Chiara or I were referencing the phrase other than to her first reference to "Bon Voyage". And that phrase is French and Chiara is from France. The rest of the comments between the two of us are nothing more than fun banter. At least that's how I read her comments, it's how mine should be read.

I think someone just entered in the middle of the conversation and didn't have the context.

I was venting about people assuming that just because the title says Bon Voyage they already assumed it would be on a navy ship or it's in France. They could have used the expression "Buen Viaje" or "Ingat Ka" but they don't use those phrases for farewell parties. Not that anybody cares what I say anyway.

Just because the expression is in French doesn't mean it's already in France or in a French-speaking nation.

From morya : Leonard left, LP had mutual ILYs at the airport and Raj and Lucy broke up, and his mutism is cured. No Shamt interaction

No Shamy interaction? NOOOOOOOOOOO. #NeedyBabyGreedyBaby

And how is Raj cured from his mutism in just one episode I mean seriously???

Out of all of these I have go with Raj being cured of his selective mutism being the most important thing to come out of this episode. Now they can finally start utilizing his character more.

Again, thank you ever so much to Monique and Kellee. We would be out of our minds without them and their infinite patience.

I think it is going to be a good one : small, subdued, character-driven... I like this kind of episodes.

I am happy for Raj, in spite of the sadness of the breakup. His selective mutism was becoming a huge problem for the character's development and the way in which the writers "cured" it is as sensible as can be expected from a sitcom : he finally got his first (ever) shot at a relationship with a woman he was starting to fall in love with and the pain caused by the relationship's meltdown "reboots" him in a way.

As for Lucy, I do not know if she will back, or if I want her to. It appears she has served her narrative purpose... But who knows ? Maybe she has more to offer.

I really like that Sheldon is trying to be nice to Leonard, even though he fails miserably. He is not mean-spirited, just very, very self-centered and blunt about it. Yet, he makes an effort to abide by normal social conventions even though, unlike with the tenure board, there is nothing in it for him. He wants to be a good-ish, "normal" friend. Good for him.

And how hilarious is Mr. Parsons's face going to be when attempting to convince the cop that what happens in the car is romance, not drug trafficking.

Howard, as expected, cannot stand anybody stealing his NASA thunder... And I sort of agree with him : space does beat water !

Penny is reinstated as the group's momma and I look forward to it. She tries to teach Sheldon how to behave properly, drives him places and keeps him occupied with activity books, goes to Raj to offer him comfort and, once more, is around to help Raj find out his selective mutism is not as definitive as one might have thought : once she did it with booze, now she does it just by being there and talking to him.

Bonus point for Penny believing Stephen Hawking is going to be on the boat with Leonard.

Super bonus point for her worrying the great man might fall overboard. NIce display of (thoroughly unwarranted) compassion !

About tenure:

Question: On Big Bang Theory, does the job offerLeonard gets in the season finale have anything to do with the guys’ tenure fight? —Kat
Ausiello: Nope. Big Bang EP Steven Molaro tells TVLine that the tenure situation is “an ongoing thing” and that “there’s no reason why that story thread could not continue through Season 7 or 8.” However, he says with a laugh, “I do need to do more research about tenure and how long these things take.” Bonus Scoop: A Big Banger will experience a major breakthrough pertaining to the opposite sex in the season finale.

Not so much word of the renewal, news like that, from CBS was a foregone conclusion with the ratings. If TPTB are talking of what may happen in season 8, that means the cast has agreed to Contract terms, which I think is the bigger news.
