I agree with Phanta and MJ. The milestone in this episode was Sheldon staying back to take care of Amy because he cares, and that is the part which gave me warm fuzzies. The unintentional physicality later one was meant more for humour - just Amy having a bit of fun, playing on his cluelessness - and also to confirm that Sheldon, at the very least, is comfortable with physical contact with her. For him, just that comfort itself is a significant thing.

I strongly believe that Sheldon used the work 'affectionate' there because it was a safe and neutral word to use - he certainly wouldn't be comfortable with putting the label 'feelings of attraction' on something he himself felt. But that is clearly what he was feeling. I mean, 'affection' is something you feel for friends and family, in a completely non-sexual, non-romantic way. He talked of fantasizing about 'her dandruff cascading on her pale shoulders'. That image, and the way he said it - seriously, would you imagine such things about a friend or family member? Dreaming about their bare shoulders?

No, Sheldon's thoughts definitely had erotic evertones. He just wouldn't know to, or want to, call it that.

Yeah, actually... now that you mention that, you're right. I think I was thrown off by the mention of "the infernal book". lol

And the Majim has a charm that the other actors don't (hence the Emmy noms) - so they can turn it all into pure gold.

Ok , I get that you are huge fan of Sheldon/Amy,Jim/Mayim.....but next time you make a comment like this please try to refrain from "involving/comparing them with" other actors

Every actor/actress is charming in their own way and Emmy nominations are not the only way to judge an actor/actress

I find it very interesting Sheldon would even fantasize even just the shoulders of a woman. Yes, he's not a normal man and he's not the kind to imagine the breasts or the badonkadonk (okay, that last one, I sort of have doubts of that already) but the fact that THE Sheldon Cooper would fantasize about pale shoulders when the girl's obviously under 2-4 layers of clothing EVERY SINGLE DAY IMAGINABLE is a big leap, I suppose. Well, more like a Christmas miracle even bigger than Ebenezer's. It's quite possible that he might have seen them shoulders hunched and flaky before, but when he was telling it to Leonard and the way he sort of reached out as if he wanted to touch the imaginary shoulders right in front of him, it made me realize that maybe he does have a testosterone level after all. To paraphrase Sheldon, what has that vixen done to him?

It is a very good way to judge acting ability....If you stand out in your field - ANY FIELD - you get nominated/awarded for your level of work.

In TBBT, Jim has been on for 5 seasons (prior), been nominated 3 times, won TWICE.

Mayim has been on 2 seasons, nomimated ONCE, hasn't won yet.

The others....(Simon deserves a nod this year...he has been absolutely brilliant).....

But in America, the EMMY is the highest recognition of TV actors....so I'm really just stating fact.

The problem with this is when you do the research, you'll find that with the Emmy's, much like the Oscar's. There is so much politics, money, and bribery involved with not only the nominations, but with who ultimately wins that you can't take anything or the results with any kind of validity. I don't care how much anybody here loves Jim and Mayim as peformers, after they choose the clips that they are submitting it really is out of their hands and they can either win or lose regardless if they were the best peformers in their catagories or not. Case in point being what many considered the upset victory of Jon Cryer over Jim Parsons for the lead male peformer.

That is why I don't put any stock in any of these award shows because they really have nothing to do with the individual talents of the performers involved. It's all about what studio is greasing who and how much.

The other problem is that each nominie's work is only being evaluated on a very limited basis anyway if at all. Only two episodes a piece. That really isn't enough to get a genuine feeling on who really had the best peformance because obviously they are going to choose the two clips that represent their best work. Problem here is that in order to get a real and genuine evalutation on the performers work overall you really have to look at the entire season. You could easily have a peformer win based on clip submissions that represent their best work of the season but when you look at all the other things they did in the other episodes throughout the season you'll find that other then those two clip submissions their work was average or maybe a little above average the rest of the time, certainly not worth of an award that is supposed to represent consistent excellence in their given field.

Well no offence.. But Jim has been nominated four times for the Emmy... So please try to get your facts right before stating them

And neither am I from America nor do I know much about how the emmy awards/nominations are decided... but I do know that those nominations/awards are choosen by a limited group of people...

And I know that there are another awards like People choice awards which are decided by everyone not only in America but the entire world... and Kaley got nominated and Mayim did not nominated... which implies that many people liked Kaley's performance over Mayim's performance ????

Anyway that is not even my point , my point is that all the actors in this show are charming in their own way and they all play their parts brilliantly...

And Jim/Mayim play over the top characters and get most of the funny lines in their scenes while mostly the rest of them play straight man characters to these two , which IMO is equally tough to act, but the thing is a straight man mostly do not get recognized because their job mostly is to set-up the ground work for the punch line to be made by over the top character and react to that punch line. And the scene is most of the times rendered funny when both the straight man and over the top character play their parts well

I disagree of course.

The mass (mainly men) may "love" Kaley...but it is NOT for her acting ability. I will contend that Jim, Mayim and now Simon are better actors than the others and that is my opinion.

Not saying I don't like the other actors/characters - but you gotta give credit where it is SO due.

I'm really never going to agree with you so its best you stop arguing.

For the record, Johnny Galecki was nominated for an Emmy for best Lead Actor in a Comedy in 2011 (TBBT).

I predicted last spring that Kaley will be nominated this year for Best Lead Comedy Actress when I heard the comment from Bill Prady about the "maturing" of Penny. That sounded to me like they were going to give her a boat load of Emmy-bait scenes to reward her for being almost a supporting character during the fourth and first half of the fifth season, on what is suppose to be her starring show. Kaley stated that she missed not being the only girl, but would not elaborate in public but I'm sure she was quietly urging that they put more emphasis on Penny this season and make her more likable to the audience, meaning advance the L/P relationship, which she is the biggest proponent. That is working big time. The ratings are way up and the Penny-trashing on the fan forums is way down. :icon_lol:

I'm not sure I'm going to be correct on this prediction though since Mayim still is front and center this season even though she is in a different category (supporting actress) Amy simply is a more interesting character comedicly than Penny. And Simon has been on fire this year! Kaley may get loss in the shuffle and she admits she can play Penny now with almost no effort.

I think Jim, Mayim and Simon are great actors.

Simon should have gotten a nomination last yr.

He was brilliant.

Melissa is doing a great job this yr. I hope she's getting a nomination this yr. She was awesome in the Re Entry ep.

Kaley is a good actress. Not my fav but good

The last few yrs, they haven't been giving her much to work with. Not alot of memorable lines at all. I hope they give her more deep stuff.

The ILY scene was awesome.

IF and that is a big IF Kaley can somehow bring her acting game up to the level of Aniston on Friends then maybe she MAY have a slight chance of being nominated...but I wouldn't hold my breath....

But this is OT - back to the spoiler discussion.

Wow some catfighting going on here. Reminds me of some doosies I've had at IMDB. LOL.

Anyway I agree Jim, Mayim and Simon are the best. I have a soft spot for Simon because he's gotten better over the last two years. Johnny is decent but Simon should've gotten a nod. Kaley...uggh, what do I say about K? Not a fan and DEFINITELY not a Penny fan.

Yes, Jim, Simon & Mayim definitely have my votes. Based on what you guys have posted about how they decide who wins these things, though, seems like a total joke to me. They're the #1 comedy show for crying out loud and not a single on of them won this year. Simon should already have one sitting on his shelf at home. That's why I never take those award shows seriously for the most part. At least WE know who REALLY deserves those awards.

So true!

Frieda - your sig is killing me softly.

Regarding the actors.. I wouldn't want to give any definitive judgement. I'm a devoted Jim fan, so of course he stands out above everything else, to me; as indeed the character of Sheldon stands out, too. And since Mayim has an equally intriguing role, which she plays remarkably well, these two can be called the breakout performances of the show. On the other hand, I really feel all seven of them are just superlative in their respective roles - even Raj/Kunal has his moments of glory, and Simon has been flying high of late - and the show would be incomplete without any of them.

It must be tough to be a fan of the show if you can't stand Penny! But I do agree with everyone about Simon, he certainly knows how to make me cry with laughter.

Not hard at all because my love for Sheldon, Raj, Howard and Leonard (Amy too after I became a member here) makes up for the disdain for Penny.

Ahh, that makes sense now :icon_cheesygrin:. May I ask, what is it about Penny you don't like?

Everything. She is a drunk, she doesnt appreciate Leonard, she's good for proximity only. She's an attention whore. She seems to want to corrupt Amy and Bernie too. She's a bad example for all the characters. She just does not fit in mentally, intellectually, or occupationally I dunno I just dont like her.
