Another cute moment on set: when the scene where Penny is grabbing and hitting Leonard in the arm over and over, after they call cut, Kaley keeps on going and starts pretending to punch his arm like a mad woman. LOL. Too cute. Of course, like usual, she and Johnny stood up on the balcony and thanked everyone.

I love these little behind the scenes moments.  Yes...that is adorable. It sounds like the whole cast was in a great mood last night...that there was a lot of happiness there.   I think there are a lot of Shamy shippers among them.  :icon_lol:

I forgot to ask a question. What was the audience's reaction when Sheldon says "It's a possibility"? Shocked silence, squeals, screams, woots?

It was so silent from what I remember. Probably everyone was in shock. LOL. Penny probably summed up how everyone was feeling on the inside with her actions of grabbing and shaking and hitting Leonards arm with her mouth open. LOL.

I bet they were shocked...Sheldon probably shocked the heck out of the audience last night in just about every scene.  :icon_lol:   But I agree, they probably had the same Penny reaction.

OMG OMG I'm freaking out right now. I really need to be in the Shamy thread, and not squealing inappropriately in here..

Thanks so much Monique for all the tantalizing tidbits! If the Shamy flood wasn't enough, the description of Jim's behavior would have been, to make me sink into goofy bliss.

Wow I'm very very surprised. Not really by the Shamy (I don't watch for the ship) but if this goes through it's a massive change in Sheldon who has always defined himself by his superior intellect and is driven to win the Nobel. That he would take a back seat intellectually to Kripke due to being in a relationship which diverts and weakens his focus seems entirely OCC. But hey this is a tv sitcom and the writers can do as they wish. This is sweeps and leading to something, very interesting!

I love it how you guys always twist everything around. The point of the episode is PRECISELY to make fun of the fact that Sheldon does NOT have a sex life and that Sheldon just goes along with the assumption Kripke makes about his sex life getting in the way of work because he is too proud to admit to Kripke that his work has shortcomings due to his own intellect rather than outside forces. He tells that precise thing to Penny and Leonard. That is totally in character for Sheldon. And it's a brilliantly clever way for the writers to play on that.

It might be clearer when Kyxzz posts her report because at the moment there are like 10 different summaries in 2 different threads. But, yes, Sheldon asks Leonard to go along with his imaginary sex life stories and Penny asks him why he's making stuff up about him and Amy and he says because the alternative (i.e. deny he has a sex life) will make him look stupid in Kripke's eyes.

I agree sort of with both of you, Spook and Annieogly.  I do think that Sheldon is doing exactly what Spook said, but I think the purpose of the episode isn't just that.  I think the purpose of the episode is to give the audience insight into where Sheldon's head is at regarding Amy.

Sheldon had the choice to 1) claim he had been sick or some other excuse for his work being sub-par; 2) say Kripkie didn't have the intellect to understand his work (take a high road and pretend his work was better than it was, in other words); 3) go along with Kripkie;  4) even go along with Kripkie had Kripkie accused him of sexual frustration; 5) been completely devastated, humiliated and dysfunctional to where Mary likely would have had to be called in.   However, the writers cleverly went this route.   It was interesting because it showed a side of Sheldon that does desire to fit in at times, while at the same time allowing him a good excuse (and socially acceptable one) to explain his sub-par work.   He didn't want to look stupid or like he didn't know things.   So he goes along with this plan.  I think what Annie was likely trying to say here is that the Sheldon in past seasons probably would have opted for options number 2  or 5 above.

So why did the writers go the route they did?   It certainly was partially to explain his sub-par work without making him look stupid (or so he claims to Leonard and Penny), but it also helps him pave the way for something he has wanted to do, without making a big deal out of it.   He has probably wanted to let the "cat out of the bag" so to speak for a while now that he has been wanting to advance his relationship with Amy (knowing she wants that as well).   This helped him achieve that goal as well.   Whether intentional or not, the writers clearly leveraged it.

Now the interesting thing Annie probably is also implying is that the show never would have shown Sheldon to have sub-par work before.  So were the writers indirectly trying to imply that Sheldon is struggling right now because he is having sexual frustration?  Yes, I think so.  I think they were doing exactly that which is why Sheldon took the opportunity to agree with Kripkie and brag about his sexual prowess (which is non-existent, but Kripkie doesn't know that).   So it was giving insight that Sheldon has feelings of arousal, he wants a true romantic relationship, and he is willing to enter into a more physical relationship with Amy.  He also gave us insight that he still struggles with his mysophobia and has put his own action plan into place to overcome that.

I say it was brilliant!  The writers did an amazing feat of being able to keep some of the old Sheldon, while showing us the transforming Sheldon in the same episode.  :D

There are multiple meanings to the episode, that is true, and the writers killed two birds with one stone with this one because him making up the excuse of the sex life led Penny to ask THE question to tell the audience what he wants with Amy. But I do not think we are meant to take away that Sheldon is sexually frustrated and that's why his work is suffering. He seems pretty calm when he explains things to Penny, I think throughout this whole season Sheldon has been shown to be in control of his emotions and taking a very rational and pragmatic approach to them, which is very healthy. He doesn't freak out, he doesn't get frustrated, he doesn't clam up. He accepts them and works on them. He doesn't blame them. When someone is frustrated they are in denial and very angry and aggressive when confronted.

Plus, he has messed up work before, when he gave his papers to Hawking for example, and from what Bernadette said in TPLE it sounds like it's been a while since Sheldon has had any real breakthrough. Might a career crisis be coming? Maybe. But I think one episode is a bit too little to ring alarm bells.

Nope, C-Trayne. BTW, they showed us that episode and it kicked ass.

I'm home from work and I know I said I'd try to write a better report but I'm so in shock still that I doubt that's possible. LOL!

If anyone has any questions about anything that happened, I can try to answer!

Anyway,

I felt so bad for Sheldon in the one they taped last night. He was so down in the dumps he even told Kripke to use small words so he could understand after Kripke returned Sheldon's paper that he read that wasn't so great. LOL.

Penny: so, are you ever gonna sleep with Amy?

Sheldon: that's a highly personal question.

Leonard to Penny: we don't ask Sheldon questions like thaaaat...

Penny to Leonard: Maybe you don't but I do.

Penny to Sheldon: So what's your deal?

LOL...
