EddieTellerstory Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I like this story... Space station astronauts had to use a toothbrush to fix a problem. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/astronauts-used-toothbrush-fix-space-station-110239491.html The only problem is that the press is still referring to those types of fixits as McGyvering... one day they'll be called, Wolowiczing and refer to TBBT. I mean how can Mcgyver match the skills and usage of Howard and meatloaf?
phantagrae Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I was just realizing that my older sister and our two friends from college (plus a few others) and myself are/were a little too much like the guys... My older sister and our friend Jan learned to play Dungeons and Dragons from a couple of guys they knew (I think Jan had a crush on one of the guys) and so I learned, along with our other friend RK when I was HS senior or a freshman in college. We had a little gang of friends that included 2 other guys, primarily, and the 6 of us would play D&D almost every weekend. All but RK were in the university marching band, so we'd get together after football games. None of us was over 21, so we'd bring soft drinks and snacks and congregate at someone's home/apt and play for at least a couple of hours. We had official colors for our characters (or at least some of us did) because we had all read Roger Zelazny's Amber series. We were all Star Trek fans, and after the college gang kind of broke up, my sister and our two friends and me would still hang out when we could. I guess we were all geeky in our own right--and in the end, though we all went on to grow up and have careers/jobs/families (except me--I'm single...) and are successful in many ways, we're all still nerdy to some degree. RK is/was a theater nerd. Jan is still a big scifi fan (and she and I wrote what we didn't know was fanfic back in the day--I've known her since 7th grade) My older sister is an artist--and a big StarTrek fan I'm a musician--and a ST, XF, and now TBBT fan, and I post on message boards... Hmm...

MJistheBOMB Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I totally went to the bar early this year and ordered a Grasshopper thanks to Raj always drinking them. LOL Monique
phantagrae Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I was thinking of this thread the other day: THe orchestra I played in did a children's concert last Friday and one of the pieces we played was called "Pinata". There's an old tradition of changing or adding to titles on music, especially if it's rental music and you know some other musician is going to see what you wrote. I soooo wanted to alter the title on my part to read, "The Panty Pinata Polarization"...but I didn't want our music librarian to have to erase it before she returned the music. Of course, we'll be playing it again on a couple more children's performances this season, so I may give in to temptation and do it anyway. bigbangsheldon Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 In photography they always say aesthetically pleasing and I just think about that time Sheldon said that about his genitals. :/
ShennyxBazinga Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 haha you should have made the same comment, though I'm not sure if that would've turned out as well. Yes, this show comes into my real life in so many ways.. I now, and forever, sing soft kitty to myself and other's when sick or injured. I wasn't a big girly drinker, but now I order a Grasshopper every time I go out, thank you Raj. I bought a alien pen for my fiance' I make him where it on his blazer, almost everyday. He does this... ... to me. I am buying more nerdy/scientific items to "geek" up my apartment. I say "Bazinga!" after I tell a joke or burn someone. I knock three times on a door, saying their name in between every dang knock. Err, it's controlling my life! lol
LoveShamy Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 (edited) I am quoting all the time and not just from the TBBT - films, tv programmes even from tv adverts, most of friends do it too, especially me and my sister. When I quote from TBBT some people are like ...what? .. so I have explain the episode (I watch it more than them) and they go oooo yeah! Then I am like seriously guys.. not cool aha Edited October 12, 2012 by LoveShamy
phantagrae Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 (edited) I adapted "Soft Kitty" when my naughty kitty bit me back in late 2010, it went something like this: <--- The culprit, by the way... Soft kitty Mean kitty Naughty ball of furr Hateful kitty Bitey kitty Grr, grr, grr! Edited October 12, 2012 by phantagrae
BlackWhiteRose Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I sometimes ask questions like: " Was that sarcasm?" and I sometimes say "Bazinga" when I`m just kidding. I`m a fan of Star Trek (esp. TNG and Picard is my favourte captain just like Leonard said "Picard over Kirk" and I agree with that) I like Star Wars esp. the cool lightsabers, I like Superman and Spiderman. I don`t really love Babylon 5 (just like Sheldon he´s so right about that) . The pillow of my bed has to lie away from the door. (Sheldon said that in Season 1: It’s culturally universal, a bed, even a temporary bed, is always oriented with the headboard away from the door. It serves the ancient imperative of protecting oneself against marauders.) I love my computer I´ve got some Sheldon T-Shirts (Shirts he has worn on the show) I know as much about physics like Penny does. My brother loves the show too (And its his fault that I watch it ´cause he bagged me to watch it I`m not joking he really really wanted that I watch that show) My brother also likes Star Trek (and he also thinks Picard is the best captain) My brother knows a lot about physics. I talk about the TBBT episodes with my brother and we booth laugh about some scenes (for example the one were Sheldon learned how to drive :D) I watch the episodes more than one time
rubyanjel Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Sometimes it's sad that I make reference and nobody gets them or even realize how awesome it was that I was able to put the show's lines into context because not everyone you interact with in real life have seen more than 50 episodes of bbt. You know, 'cause we're not in the US and we're at least 12 hours ahead. Really sad.
ShennyxBazinga Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 a couple weeks ago my mom and I finished watching a few episodes of TBBT. And we went out to dinner with my dad and my fiancee. My mom and I were quoting from the episodes we watched before going out and other ones. My fiancee watches it, but he didn't know what the heck we were talking about. phantagrae Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I just remembered the other day that back in my geeky ST fan days that I was actually on a small cruise ship with Wil Wheaton... My older sister and our two friends (the ones I mentioned above, that I played D&D with) went on a couple of Star Trek fan cruises, which were basically like a regular cruise, but with a floating Star Trek convention included. There were several of the ST stars on the cruise, including Wil Wheaton when he was still a teenager. I think he was there with his parents and younger siblings (I didn't actually talk to him at any point, though.) This would have been in the summer of 1991, so ST:TNG was still in production, as I recall. I went again in 1993, but I don't remember if WW was aboard that time. phanta <--- geek! bigbangsheldon Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I just don't understand how other people haven't watched every episode 6 times and can't recite the lines and what happens, I just can't.
MJistheBOMB Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 (edited) I kept repeating, "...if I am to participate in the social convention that is the stag night then I must embrace all it's components: tabacco, swear words....and yes, alcohol...." to myself the other day. Yeah, I was bored and it's the longest of the quotes I can remember. LOL. Monique Edited October 17, 2012 by MJistheBOMB
rubyanjel Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 It really is invading my real life because I am not sure if I'm actually adapting Sheldon and Amy's personalities with my recent disdain of human interaction and that every time people will drag me into doing things I would often ask if it's social convention. ShennyxBazinga Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I'm teaching myself String Theory. I told my mom a bit about it (the bit I understand) and she completely misunderstood me. I shook my head, and gave her the look Sheldon gives Penny everytime he has to explain something to her .
phantagrae Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 (edited) Last night a friend invited me to join in a game of Words with Friends and although I probably could have figured out a word for more points, I had to play the following word because I could: boson!! :D Edited October 20, 2012 by phantagrae

Guest I'm not dead Cheryl Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I just saw an ad for "Stand By Me" on TCM. When they said "starring Wil Wheaton..." I yelled WHEATOOONNNN. I scared my dog.
LexLuthor Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 I can say that BBT is invading in my life. I want to copy Sheldon's behaviour and that's pretty hard I'm going to buy a book of physics and try to learn all that stuff
phantagrae Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 (edited) I went to the movies yesterday--saw " Cloud Atlas" and I LOVED it!--and at the concession stand they had a rack full of boxed candy and I saw... Red Vines Raisenettes (which I bought) and Sour Patch Kids (and Sheldon should have given Stuart $5.00 if he wanted to treat him to a box of candy!!) I thought of BBT the whole time.
