Really disappointing. What happened? Did all the writers quit?

Best part was the mouse face on Howard. Having someone misuse a scientific word isn't the height of hilarity. The cliche of Sheldon becoming a real boy ("Please don't hurt my friend") was only outdone by watching the shallow vain girl that wouldn't know a good thing if it bit her and the old doormat she's about to throw out fight. I just don't like Penny anymore - they've changed her from a misguided naive girl with a heart of gold and a fear of being hurt into a self centered user..., and Leonard as a doormat isn't far behind. So far this season is the bad fish.

And for the love of Pete can we please have Howard back down from space. Is he going to be up in the Space Station all season????

The writers are certainly slowly but surely beginning the transformation of Sheldon into a caring, warm blooded humanoid. I just wonder how he reacts when this new Sheldon's first true love physics is effected by his mind not quite having that super keen focus it once had. When that was all he cared to think about. He already was extremely upset last season when his cuddling with Amy effected his work.

I don't think his cuddling with Amy made it difficult to focus in the sense of losing his edge or or whatever. What he was complaining about was the time spent with Amy rather than in doing what he had planned to do (and he probably intended to spend more time building his Lego Death Star than he had planned to spend contemplating string theory...) It doesn't mean that once he got back to work that he would have trouble concentrating or focusing on his work.

But that doesn't mean that I would mind seeing him be a little more distracted. His thoughts about Amy and her efforts to "make him happy" did indeed affect his chess game, so... :p

No offense but Howard swung and missed all the time, he was weird. Penny never swings and misses cause she's the beach blonde bum. What guy would pass on the hot girl?

Based on the number of guys that Sheldon has seen leaving Penny's apartment and Penny' own comments about her past relationships, Penny has no problems attracting men, allowing some to ride the ferris wheel, while others just get to spin the teacups, but has never met a keeper -- until Leonard.

Penny: Tell me the truth. Am I just an idiot who picks giant losers?

Leonard: No. No.

Penny: Okay, so I pick good guys, but turn them into losers.

...

Penny: You know, just once, I would like to go out with someone who is nice, and honest, and who actually cares about me.

To me, Penny swings and misses a lot and is doing the "looking for love in all the wrong places" thing.  If anything, Leonard is the one that never swings and misses...Leslie, Stephanie, Dr. Elizabeth Plimpton, Joy, Mrs. Letham, Priya, Penny and Alice (sort of).

Bernadettes friend from the gym.

Oh, Desperation Emanation! Thanks for reminding me. Maybe I forgot because I didn't really like the scenes with her.

I like the new Sheldon :icon_surprised: He's the same strange but funny Guy from the last Sessions but sometimes he is completly changed and shows feelings like the most people. This Variety is good for he's character :icon_wink:

Well, she was apparently pretty promiscuous before she met Kurt, so whatever.

My point is that you've made up this whole scenario about the guys she's dated when there's little to no evidence concerning them. You hate or something to the point that you've created some kind of imaginary life full of imaginary relationships so that you can condemn her.

If the writers don't condemn her by having the other characters condemn her, then they're obviously not painting the picture that you imagine they're painting.

The same can be said about Sheldon--some viewers think he's the most horrible, obnoxious person on the planet and wonder why the others put up with him, but, as Jim Parsons pointed out, the charcter is judged as the others judge him--they may get exasperated by him, but they don't hate him and so he is not condemned for his behavior.

If the writers want to make someone out to be the bad guy, then that is usually outlined by the reaction of those around that character.

What you imagine about Penny simply isn't on the page, but only in your imagination.

I guess Sheldon and Amy don't count.

This forum is filled with the posts of people bemoaning the fact that Penny has evolved into a skank over the last 3 seasons. I guess they are imagining it as well. (although the writers claim to be fixing this, which begs the question, if there is nothing wrong, why is a "fix" needed?)

Their "condemnation" isn't what you're saying. Yes, they comment on her promiscuity, but in no different a manner than anyone else's flaws are discussed--like the way the other characters complain about Sheldon.

They all comment on each other's faults or flaws, but no one is ostracized or condemned to the point of disgust or whatever.

What the writers are "fixing" is, IMO, more a manner of her view of committment or her understanding of what it would mean to get serious about Leonard. Maybe she's flighty, maybe she's afraid of committment, etc.

But what people on the forum complain about isn't necessarily what the writers see or think, or expect the audience to see or think or feel.

Even so, even if one might call Penny a skank, which is a pretty harsh word, I don't think the writers see her that way and I would bet they didn't intend her to be seen that way. They took her and Leonard on a roundabout route in their relationship and of course in that situation Penny is more likely to have multiple partners than is Leonard. Still, that didn't stop Leonard from having several parnters himself, including some rich old broad and that creepy girl that Howard and Bernadette set him up with.

At any rate, all of that is very different from your imagined psychoanalysis of Penny's supposed dating life. Whatever one may think of her possibly dating lots of men, there's no evidence that she was dumped by all of them for being a horrible person, which is what your post was saying. You made up this whole scenario that was based on nothing but your imagination. She's never been written or portrayed on the show as having trouble "keeping" boyfriends or that men are turned off by her or that they find her to be a bad person to date.

Since Leonard started dating Priya, I don't know that we've even seen Penny dating anyone, so where does all of this string of turned off men come from?

I've mentioned this before but for all the talk of Penny's promiscuity, we have actually been shown almost none of it. Howard, has been shown with more partners in sexual situations then Penny. Who was the last man besides Leonard that Penny has been implied to have had sex with, Zack? And that would be at the end of season three since the new year's eve party at the comic book store Zack was told by Howard that he was not scoring that night because Penny was moping for Leonard. Zack had only been invited over by Penny because she did not want to be alone.with a bad case of the "Lenny".

My theory for why this is written like this is that the audience has a vested interest in seeing Penny with Leonard and the double standard of how women TV character's sexual activity versus men's is viewed means the fans will allow Leonard to successfully be shown with several women sex partner but will be outraged if Penny is shown in the same light. Exihibit "A" is the Raj reaction at the end of season four.

How many times have we seen Penny actually kiss anyone romantically besides Leonard? Once? Twice? Penny's slutty sex life is mainly talk, sometime from Penny but usually from Sheldon.

I don't know much about the double standard for women...but I guess the viewers were outraged with Raj/Penny thing because -- she still had feelings for Leonard...and no one wants one of their favorite character jump through the group (most important case)....if she were shown not to have feelings for Leonard anymore I think the reaction would have been different

And regarding the Slutty Penny talk--- Sheldon actually transformed from talking about her tampoons initially to her promiscuity and the ridiculous amount of men she had sex with over the 5 seasons....those comments actually changed from being cute and endearing to obnoxious and mean (ex- benefactor factor episode)

and Penny herself has not been helping the case with statements like in the season 5 premier when Amy asks where they are going--- "A place where no one has seen me naked , we may have to drive for a while"

And in the vacation episode - when she confesses that first she slept with one the brothers, then the other one and then again the first one.....which implied that she was kind of a slut :(

And it looks like people(including me :p) are pointing out all these things about her because of her indifferent attitude towards Leonard...... because her tenderness towards Leonard was one of main the reason she started to hang with the group

I agree that Leonard has been no saint....but the fact that she dumped him after he confessed his love (no matter whose fault it was :p) and now again she thought about breaking up with him after all her confessions really stings... So I think many people tend to sympathize with Leonard in this case

This episode is what I come to expect from TBBT. Lots of good story and laughs but missing some of the science that lent the whole milieu a charm.

Still, it was very heart warming when Shledon asked Penny not to hurt his friend. This really shows how much Leonard means to Sheldon. I do not sense that Leonard has the same bond of friendship towards Sheldon. It appears that Leonard views his friendship with Sheldon as more of a care giver role rather than an equal friendship.

It would be nice to see them develop an us against them relationship, which was hinted at in the first season. Since the first season though, it has been the world against Sheldon which served to define his character as eccentric.

Perhaps there will be multiple relationship implosions or more importantly, the ShAmy relationship ends and Sheldon ends up fragile emotionally.

Leonards face when penny was about to tell him was hilarious and then when Bernadette and Amy tried to mimic pennys demonstration of it

I especially like Shamy centric episodes and last night we had a little bit of the shamy but I adore Sheldon anyway so im always happy to watch him

This episode was one of the best that I've seen from Season 5 onwards. It brought back memories of Sheldon breaking into Penny's apartment, just like in the good old days. He also explains a scientific principle to Penny, which again brought back some memories, as I seldom saw it in Season 5. It brings me hope for the rest of Season 6, and the episodes after this haven't been bad.

I am new to these forms although I have watched the show for a couple years now.

I really didn’t find this episode overly funny, likely because the tone was set to Penny wanting to break it off with Lenard again.

That set the tone I think for the entire episode, it’s also was a reinforcement of the show making Penny a dislikable character since the breakup in season three.

I really don’t understand why the writers/ producers changed the sweet natured Midwestern girl who may have wanted to let her hair down a bit, but nothing too outrageous into the border line alcoholic slut we have seen since season four (I would label a male character the same way to avoid the whole double standard label).

The piety sex at the end didn’t really make it more palatable.

I also thought the bullies in space was stupid, they are astronauts with years of training operating in a hostile environment, not frat boys around a kegger.

The one really good part though was Sheldon’s “Penny, please don’t hurt my friend “part, it was in my opinion a great representation of his character showing growth.  The Sheldon in season one would never say something like that.

The question is: What does he get for himself?

When Sheldon intervened with Stephanie, he got a doctor...

Good one!
