Guest I'm not dead Cheryl Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 didn't know what it was, looked it up, and yes, I think it pretty much defines them. Although I would say Sheldon is Amy-Sexual since he's met smart/intelligent women before, but none of them clicked on him like Amy did

bigbangsheldon Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I've never heard of such a term, but I would say so haha! I've heard the word demisexual used before too.
Ely Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Google= Define:sapiosexual "One who finds intelligence the most sexually attractive feature." "(adj) A form of sexual orientation characterized by a strong attraction to intelligence in others, often regardless of gender and/or conventional attractiveness." After that, the answer is: Yes and yes !!
nerdywordy Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) Sheldon hasn't shown any signs of being sexually attracted to Amy. Romantic attraction is not clear either, but they might push him to be heteroromantic or sapioromantic with time. Sheldon seems happier with their relationship as what's known as a queerplatonic one, whereas Amy would like it to be both sexual and romantic. This thread is just a bit of fun, but in all seriousness Sheldon has never shown sexual attraction to anyone. Even his dandruff remark about Amy was an affectionate comment, he refused to attach desire too. He told Leonard to stop talking about the sex book. As things stand he has kind of been written as a true asexual. A person who has no sexual desire towards either sex. These people do exist, although it is very rare, only 1% of the population. They may change this character trait eventually but they haven't done much about it so far. I started a thread about asexuality a while back but its been lost with the forum upgrade. I didn't know asexual people existed until Sheldon Cooper brought the issue to light. I also didn't know there were so many other terms: queerplatonic Edited September 22, 2012 by Moonbase

Puppy Chow Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Hmmm, that definition sounds about right in Amy's case.It could also be applied in the future to Sheldon. He's certainly emotionally attached to Amy and a big part of that attachment grew out of their admiration for each other's brain. I've seen a glimmer of desire in the way he looked at her when they were playing doctor, Star Trek-style. It was heavily implied that the scene was not innocent at all IMO. Based on his conversation with Leonard earlier in the episode, Sheldon's "I'm in hell" comment could refer to the role play making him happy (he said before that Amy's attempts to make him happy were "awful"), or to his asking Leonard to stop referring to "that infernal book" (the sex book that Leonard and Penny got him). We'll have to wait and see if there are other signals or hints in the future.
phantagrae Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 I think he finds her physically attractive, similar to the way she finds him attractive--they're attracted to the very sort of things that others would find strange or even off-putting. She likes his pale waxy skin, he likes her slumpy shoulders (did he say "pale" too? When would he have seen her bare shoulders?!) I think that he is somewhat physically attracted to her, but just can't or won't articulate it or acknowledge it as physicall attraction. There are a lot of couples where you have to figure that conventional physical attraction may not have been an initial element of the relationship, but the couple has gone on to have children, etc. I think that love of a person for their personality can become love of the person in totality, which would include physical/sexual attraction. For Sheldon it will be an odd journey because he's loathe to admit that he's "no different from stupid people" and that he might eventually be subject to physical desires. I think that his mention of thinking of her at inappropriate times and his reference to her "cascading" dandruff was probably part of an unknowing attraction to her. He speaks of her dandruff falling on her shoulders with an odd affection and is wary of feeling more for her outside of his own control. To me that means that that desire is budding and he's a little unsettled by the prospect. I think that sooner or later he's going to fall prey to the little nugget of truth under that dandruff daydream. :D
