phantagrae Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Seeing that Jim grew up in Texas like Sheldon, he might have had cotillion training too. Here in Little Rock they occasionally run pictures of young kids who've done cotillion...
Pomita Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Here in Little Rock they occasionally run pictures of young kids who've done cotillion... Just curious, what's it like? (i.e. how are they different from other young kids who haven't done cotillion)?
phantagrae Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Just curious, what's it like? (i.e. how are they different from other young kids who haven't done cotillion)? I have no idea. All I know is that some people still put their kids through it. I imagine they're the country club set or the junior league types, or old fashioned southern families with old money. As far as I know I've never met anyone who has been through cotillion. I've just seen the occasional picture in the paper.
HeWolf Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 In the southeastern US, including parts of Texas, they still have charm school or 'social' training. The curriculum includes etiquette, manners and dance among other things. Attendance varies, but it's primarily something middle class and upper middle class parents have their children attend. I can see Mary Cooper sending her socially awkward child to classes like these.
