LoveShamy Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 (edited) I love certain props on this show, how they do things and how realistic the environment is. Good points - - They actually use their keys to lock and open their doors! In most shows they don't do this which annoys me because it's like their city is too safe to lock their doors, TBBT puts in the effort to do this -They make food (or at least eat it), there is food and drink in the fridge. -That time they showed Read Dead Redemption gameplay 'Sheldon clearing his head on a awalk' -When they are on their laptops, they are actually on and not just a black screen. -The car drives are quite realistic they are not swerving the wheel here and there like woo where are they actually driving! like in some shows like in how I met your mother ect. The background looks pretty good too. -The cheesecake Factory is quite realistic too, but I don't see how their table would always be free when they go to eat there but that's not too much of a big deal. -When they are outside like when they fly kites, the park looks pretty good and real. -Apartments look great! science and geeky stuff around in it and pictures on Pennys fridge! which I thought was really good :D There are probably a lot more good points, so Ill let you guys add what you think is realistic about the show. Bad points- -When they slam doors, or even just open them the apartment walls wobble a lot, sometimes they look like it may fall down. -When they drive I don't think they actually make it look like they change gear, but that again is a small detail that does not bother me, just thought I might add it Yeah so over all I think the show is very realistic with its props and environment ect. What do you guys think? Edited October 7, 2012 by LoveShamy
Moonbase Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 (edited) The prop people are incredible. They do such a great job. Even though the building does not exist they have created a realistic composite of the local area for the window scenes in both apartments. Taking in to consideration the local landmarks. They put in a lot of thought and work. I also like it when Sheldon was on Facebook and he was actually viewing Stuart's page and then it switched to Sheldon's friends page when he was unfriending the guys. He even had a picture of himself with the bluejay from a previous episode, as the profile pic. It's a shame Jim, who is not a social networker didn't realise you can't unfriend someone with one click though. phantagrae Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Well I would bet that the one-click unfriending was more about timing. To hit one click gives the action more emphasis, rather than clicking on this, then clicking on that etc. It's kind of like making a dramatic exit and slamming the door. If you had to go through a lot of rigmarole first, then the exit loses its impact. The one thing about the doors is that they don't always seem to be locked. Usually, when the guys are home, people pop in, or knock and just enter. Okay, that's assuming that when the guys aren't home, they wouldn't have the door locked, but then sometimes they'll all leave, and no one locks the door behind them... I like that each apartment is its own space, laid out differently, decorated differently, with all kinds of details peculiar to the individual that lives there. As for the not changing gear--do you mean, like when they start off, not going from Park to Drive? Or do you mean not shifting gears, like with a stick-shift car? I would say that none of the, seems like the type to drive a stick. And speaking of flimsy-looking apartment walls, I noticed that in some episode, there was a door that looked like one corner of it was warped. I don't know which ep it was or what door. I just saw a fleeting glimpse and wondered.

LoveShamy Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 (edited) I mean when they drive, they speed up so they should be changing to higher gear, so moving the gear stick in different positions even when they come to park . They might do it, but I have not noticed it. Not like it is a big deal but I just thought I would add it in case they do actually do it. The prop people are incredible. They do such a great job. I would say that most cars in the US are automatics.

phantagrae Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 One thing I noticed the other day while watching, for the umpteenth time, that dinner scene between Amy and Sheldon where she makes Strawberry Quick for him--when they're over by the kitchen, you can see the yellow Quick container on the kitchen counter. The front label is turned away from the camera, but the package is pretty distinctive. That's a detail they really didn't need to include in order to tell the story, but it makes it pretty real. LoveShamy Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 They just make its so real don't they :D Like you said they did not need to add the bottle but they did which just makes even more realistic and that much greater
Pomita Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 (edited) I agree that they put in an extraordinary amount of thought and care into the details. The props, the laptop screens, the trademark clothes of each character, and the real science on the whiteboards and in the dialogue. It makes the whole experience so much more satisfying. Like when Amy's dissecting a brain, we can be reassured to know that it looks like a real brain, because Mayim actually had a long discussion with the writers and the props people on how to build it right. Or the Lego Death Star they meticulously took one month to construct.. the examples are many. phantagrae Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I figured this question could be included in this thread (and I didn't want to start a new thread for just this one question: Have we ever seen Jim/Sheldon actually eat with chopsticks (or any of the charcters)?? I was just watching the Alien Parasite ep where Sheldon is eating lunch with Amy and he's holding chopsticks, but as I watched the scene I realized that he wasn't holding them properly and he was kind of just poking around on his plate with them. So, first of all I figure that in this particular scene there really isn't time for him to put food in his mouth with all the talking. But it made me wonder about other chopstick scenes. We often see him taking up chopsticks as they sit down to eat Chinese or Asian foods, but I can't remember seeing him actually lift food into his mouth with chopsticks. Also, I know that there's a specific way to hold them to eat with them. My friend lived in Japan for 4 years and some little old man in a resaurant there taught him how to hold and use chopsticks properly. He tried to teach me, but I got a cramp in my hand and was afraid of dropping food all over myself. Any observations? THoughts? Actually, whenever I would rewatch that episode, I often observe what's in her kitchen. The fact that there's even a salad dressing there and her ref is full of foodstuff makes it a pretty darn realistic setting. Regarding Jim eating with chopsticks, I also can't recall an episode where he actually took a bite with his chopsticks and that his grasp on the sticks are pretty flimsy (coming from someone that lives in SE Asia). I have noticed this too not holding chopsticks correctly or even eating with them, and its not just with chopsticks, whenever they have food normally when out of the apartment they just poke the food on their plate and move it around. The only time you ever really see them eat is when they get take out in the apartment. But I think your right, they may not tend to eat because of their lines and in the bloopers Leonard has food in his mouth and misses his line. Convict13 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I get very distracted when they eat, because they never do actually eat (well rarely). Surely they could just pop something small in their months.

I love the details in her kitchen in that scene. She has a basket of rolls on the counter, though she doesn't take those to the table. But the funniest detail is the little container of bio hazardous test tubes (at least that's what they look like) on her kitchen counter. You can see them right by Sheldon's elbow when he sits on that stool at the beginning. With the chopsticks, I've seen him take the little takeout chopsticks and break them apart, but I don't think he's ever actually used them. Cute They do eat, just not that much--either at home or in the cafeteria and sometimes at the Cheesecake Factory. I think it's usually whoever doesn't have a lot if lines that ends up actually eating. But the dinner scenes are almost always moments where lots of things are being discussed, so it makes sense that they can't really dig in that much. Yeah, I saw Mayim eating from the takeout box in the 5.03 episode when Sheldon and Penny were arguing about the dumplings. And that she took a bite from the pickle sandwich on The Alien Parasite. Most of the time it's Kunal who would end up messing with his lines whenever he's eating. That's kind of the gagreel staple.
phantagrae Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) I was watching my DVDs tonight and I noticed that in the scene I mentioned above in Amy's lab that at one point Jim did use the chopsticks to out food in his mouth, so apparently he does know how to use them at least to some extent. rachelshamyfan Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 One episode where jim properly used the chopsticks was the cricket episode where He, howard and Raj are on the sofa discussing it Its the only thing that annoys me about the show is when they are doing a scene and just playing/moving the food around, i want to shout at the telly to tell them to eat!!! ShennyxBazinga Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 One thing I've noticed. You don't really see them cooking. The only time I see them cooking is, when Penny made french toast on oatmeal day.
Moonbase Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) I remember Penny cooking... Well, she put something in the microwave when Sheldon was asking her out and she was making macaroni cheese when Leonard came over to ask advice about Alice, the comic book store girl. She put this massive block of either cheese or butter in to the pan, I was like ugh, too much! The boys don't cook though. Penny made spaghetti for Sheldon, so she cooks the most.
