They've opted for ratings and money over originality. I can totally understand why they did it but it's sad to see the uniqueness of the show buried under layer upon layer of emotional dreck. As someone else said out here a while ago - they're boldly going where everyone has gone before. It's now just an above average romantic relationship show.

they actually could have relationships too but do it in a fresh way, but no way that seems to be happening.

Having sex in public places: the comic book store, a workplace; the Caltech laser lab is slutty behavior. Both Leonard and Penny are slutty for behaving this way.

Penny locked the door first at the laser lab! :)

Penny wouldn't even know what a Orion slave girl was. I'm not saying she wouldn't look amazing but the slutty cop costume is her!!! Sexy and uncomplicated. This is a girl whose favorite movies are click flicks. The costume she chose was spot on character. Leonard chose Einstein to drive home the purpose of the episode. She was finding his intellect sexy, so he chose a scientist, wouldn't you? lt's all pretty obvious stuff really.

After finally figuring out that Penny gets turned on by his mind, Leonard would have been crazy not to go as Einstein. He knows that she is intimidated by his education, he's been burned by that insecurity a few times, he finally put the evidence together in this episode that she is also dazzled by his smart talk when he does it correctly.

I wonder if Penny & Leonard took pictures while in the Tardis photo booth? OH MY! Lol! :)

Did they even know it was a photo booth? The photo's will probably surface at a later date. If it worked to make a talentless bimbo or three famous, think how good it will be for Penny's acting career!

I am not one that can tell you the name of the writers or creative staff of TBBT. Some on here are much more knowledgeable in that area than I am. But, from what I’ve read, they have apparently changed the writing staff at least three times during the run of the show? Why? What was wrong with the original writers? They were certainly better than the ones that have given us all this L/P melodrama, and the juvenile situational comedy we’ve seen in the past two seasons. They do manage to come up with some good stuff but much of it would be better suited to a different show. Are they ever going to go back to their roots? Nope; it’s not likely to happen while they’re pulling 15 million viewers a week and winning the ratings battle. They can, however, write a decent show and stay true to the characters they’ve created. They can give us good comedy to laugh at without making us laugh at the expense of the characters. Most of these comments are applicable to the Re-Entry Minimization and not the episode that is the topic of this thread. This episode was, too me, an example of what they can do when they get it right

I can tell you when it comes to being a writer in the entertainment industry, when you get on a hit show like TBBT and put in some decent time in on such a show you can then decide where you want to go career wise. Working on the show like that will give you a notable pedigre that often will not only get you other gigs but sometimes can lead to getting production deals. Just look at people like Jane Espension, David Fury, Marti Noxon, and David Greenwalt. These were all people who started out as staff writers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Most of them moved up and either got exeuctive producer credits, directing credits, or even got show creatiion deals themselves.

The thing with the quality of the big bang theory writers is that singularly none of them are fantastic writers by a longshot. The fact that most of the teleplay credits are credited to two to three of them will tell you so, then you often throw in the story credit on top of that. What it tells you is TBBT is very much a team oriented sitcom when it comes to the writing.

Rofl! ..my cultish leanings are reserved solely for Star Trek. Hmm I really have to watch Firefly carefully now...it may have possibilities.

I don't know what it's like in real-life US, but having sex at a Halloween party seems to be the done thing on this show. Raj did it way back in Season 1. Also, Leonard and Leslie Winkle got pretty close to making out in the lab back then.. they would have shared a decontamination shower if Leonard had his way. :)

Just read in the Spoiler forum about Amy & Bernadette getting into a fight over a squabble between Sheldon & Howard. What an original idea. :icon_rolleyes: Just off the top of my head - Wilma/Betty, Edith Bunker/Mrs. Jefferson, Thelma Lou/ Miss Crump, etc. Best friends fighting because of their stupid, stupid husbands/boyfriends. Further evidence that the writers have run out of gas. By turning the show into a romcom they now have thousands of old scripts to recycle. Just plug in the TBBT cast and they're done. Can't wait for the fundraising-variety-show-at-the-school episode.

I guess it's time for you to check out then. If you hate the show so much, why are you still bothering to show up and screech about it? If it's so old/stale/derivative/whatever, then why haven't you moved on to something that pleases you?

Question? Are you trying to recruit others to be unhappy about the show amongst the vast ocean of happy viewers? Or are you feeling better that you can rage against the machine?

Give me a break. They aren't doing it where other people could see them and in the lab Penny locked the door. If you think that is "slutty" and frankly that seems like a pretty boring attitude to me. So I guess the only non-slutty thing to do is in the bedroom, lights out, and the missionary position. I thought that the whole point of Penny suddenly wanting to do things like that in the lab and at the comic books store was to emphasize that suddenly she finds Leonard very hot, not because of his physique, but because of his brain. I also find it strange all the moaning about the lack of science after the first scene in Leonard's lab and lesseer so, the 2nd scene in his lab. Just how sciency is the show supposed to be?

The attacks on poor Howard? Yes it's coold that he went to space BUT they went out of their way to show that Howard would bring up his going to space during every conversation. Bernadette demonstrated that what makes Howard special is not him going to space but because he is Howard.

Sheldon in the pie eating contest was a deomonstration of just how competitive he is. They tried every game that they could think of so that he and Leonard could win, and failed. Big deal.

Guest I'm not dead Cheryl

So.... this episode was one of the nerdiest and with more science and geekdom in pretty much the whole show's run.... and there's the same old "they should go back to geek things" whining on it's thread?

it seems to me there is no way for the writers to win

I realize this is a fairly minor spoiler, but can we please not talk about spoilers outside the spoiler thread? There's a reason some of us don't go in there.

Maybe we can start a thread about why the show is terrible now and why no real old-school fan should watch it anymore. Or is there already one of those? :D

Yeah, except for the almighty first and second seasons, according to some. And I don't get that either. It's scary how close my life could be to an amalgam of the characters and I haven't had any problem with the show after the first two seasons. After all, although it took a few years, much like the characters, I finally grew up also (although I still act like a kid at times). Over the last few years my wife has poked me and said "remember that" when ever one of the characters has taken a step forward socially, similar to one I've taken.

Slutty? I'd say more like freaky and horny. LOL. A slut is more like someone who sleeps around with multiple partners and doesn't give a damn.

I SO identify. This is one of the many reasons that I love the show even more now.. because it's literally a slice out of 5 years of my life.

I second the request for no spoilers outside the spoiler thread. For some people, the show still matters.

There are a number of such threads, I think. Two that come to mind were in the season 5 board - 'This show's decline' and 'I informed you thusly' or something like that. I definitely think the season 6 board also needs such a thread, to accommodate those who are still watching the show and still hating it and still feel the need to talk about it (I have no idea why).

As Sursonica says, it's interesting how after the first few episodes of season 6 (Higgs Boson Observation and Holographic Excitation were thoroughly science-oriented), the complainers have become silent on the 'why no science' issue and shifted to 'why pie in the face' and 'why sex in the lab'. This only proves the old adage that if you want to find something to crib about, you will. There were dozens of such points to be found in the earlier seasons too, and many critics did.
