phantagrae Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 They listed SH as guest for the episode? That's my understanding from the taping reports. I mean, he wasn't there, but I had asked the question about whether it was Howard playing a trick on Sheldon, but I believe it really is SH. Pomita Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 'It's exciting to think you might be getting a testosterone level', and Sheldon's expression after that :icon_lol: Can't stop watching the second sneak peak! Penny having got the idea to go to school is quite a forward step in itself.
Moonbase Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 (edited) That Leonard and Penny scene is really standing out as special... and I never thought I'd be saying that!! Penny going to college... And she finally made Leonard dinner! I've been complaining about how they always had her doing stuff like that for Sheldon, and never her own boyfriend. Okay whine over... Moonbase Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Well, I think she did it just once for Sheldon, on his insistence. But I agree with the rest. I wrote 'stuff like that' I didn't mean dinner specifically. At one point whenever Penny needed assistance the task went to Sheldon and never Leonard. No wonder the whole shenny thing kicked off. It made it appear that Sheldon had a more meaningful connection to her than he really did.

Oh, you mean the other way round, like him lending her money or taking her to the hospital or making Penny blossoms. I know what you mean. I think they used to have all those Sheldon/Penny scenes just because they're wildly funny together (much more than Leonard and Penny), and they wanted to mine the comedy. Personally I don't think any of those things had to indicate a more meaningful connection than the one they have, which is as neighbours and pals. I'd be glad to see them continuing with the comedic Sheldon/Penny stuff occasionally. But of course, we do need to see Leonard/Penny doing more fun things together, to cement their relationship. Whenever Penny "needed" a big strong man to help her, Sheldon was the obvious choice. Edited November 1, 2012 by Disgusted
BazingaFan Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) Just finished watching the episode. Excellent, excellent, excellent. I have to say, they are writing so much better this season!! The main thing that sticks out to me is the interaction between the guys in this episode. It really reminded me of the earlier seasons. So funny; just loved it!! Disgusted Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Heh,Heh, I actually liked this episode. Leonard & Penny seem to be on the way to being fixed. And the jokes! "Spanking Hawking so hard his grad students could feel it ". Priceless! And that Howard with his elephant & curry joke, what a card! SRAM Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I liked it too. Leonard does something really wrong and Penny reasonably gets real mad. So she sets him straight and there is no talk of a breakup or even Leonard asking if they are still dating. Penny is getting fixed and Leonard is not needy. Good episode. I died laughing at Bernie and Amy in the last scene.

Also loved it as well and to mention some of my friends on Facebook loved that scene between the two of them. And not to mention Penny believing the elves from the fairy tale "The Elves And The Shoemaker" were from "Lord Of The Rings"
Guest I'm not dead Cheryl Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Liked the episode a lot, except for Penny's attitude towards the girls on their last scene. She kinda bullied them even though they were helping her. But other than that, I did laugh a lot during the episode, specially at Sheldon vs Hawking. And Hawking's call at the end was brilliant! LOL. I busted a gut at "what do Sheldon Cooper and a Black Hole have in common?... THEY BOTH SUCK!""" Hahahah
phantagrae Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Loved the episode!!! Excellent! Loved all the interaction and I loved poor Leonard trying to get Sheldon to help him with his Penny problem. You'd think the guy would know better by now! I loved Amy's line, "Yes, but she's right here..." :D In a real life situation I see no way any one would put up with Sheldon. Sure it is funny to watch but also very Erie. No way I could put up with all of Sheldon's Bull Crap the way Leonard and company do. . . Superlovelexi Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) I felt like previous episodes were much funnier than this one. I thought this one was just okay. I really liked seeing Raj and Howard behaving like best buddies again dancing together and making fun of each other's accents that part was fun. Also, Bernadette was adorable as always. Amy was weird and adorable as always so kudos on those parts of the episode. But, Sheldon was really annoying in this episode and not nearly as funny as he has been in all previous season 6 episodes. He was acting like a big selfish baby again, which yes sometimes I find hilarious, but this time it came across a bit too pathetic. I didn't like that he said he should "cut" Amy loose just because he was mad about Stephen Hawking not playing with him anymore. What an awful thing to have him say right after last week they made such a breakthrough with the compromising costumes and him saying "he should have picked hickey" I know he didn't mean what he said, but all the Shamy haters will say that he did mean it now because of that stupid comment. Sheldon always blames everyone, but himself when something doesn't go his way and its getting a little old. He was so much nicer about wanting to help Leonard when he thought Penny might break up with him a few weeks ago that he even tried to tell him what was going on with his adorably funny Transformers analogy and telling him that his Mark Ruffalo might still be out there and also the Awesome "Please don't hurt my friend" line to Penny. He was actually showing real honest caring about his best friend, colleague and roommate in that episode, but tonight he completely ignored Leonard's problem and his feelings about Penny even when Leonard tried to make it a fun game for Sheldon with the time clock and even gave him polite sound advice to help with Sheldon's "not a real" problem Problem with Stephen Hawking SHeldon still acted like a completely selfish inconsiderate jerk. I know Sheldon is selfish a lot of the time and that he wants badly to be friends with Stephen Hawking, but I didn't find his selfish jokes tonight that funny. They could have been funnier with Sheldon's WOF storyline if they gone a different way with his attitude towards situation they could have made it out to be that at first he was worried about losing Hawking as a friend and then use it to show how much he cares about friends he already has instead of ignoring and insulting them like he did. But I'll let Sheldon slide mostly because I love Jim Parsons so much Penny was really annoying also again, THey finally made progress with her character with last episode making her seem little more caring towards Leonard and his work. But now they take another GIANT STEP BACKWARDS WITH HER CHARACTER UGH! I know people are going to say its actually going to move them forward her going back to school. But tonight all I saw was Penny being an insecure bully who can't deal with the fact that she isn't as smart as everyone around her. NEWSFLASH HONEY NO ONE CARES THAT YOUR DUMB THEY JUST WANT YOU TO BE NICER TO THEM!! If she thinks taken a history class will teach her kindness or make her relationship with Leonard feel more equal than she's dumber than I thought. You want equality than buy/cook him a decent meal instead of cooking him crap spagetthi and maybe he might think you're holding your own in the relationship a bit more missy. Sure not all girls have to be great in the kitchen I know I'm not, but she doesn't even try to make it right or good its like she just doesn't give a damn about making Leonard eat her awful food as if she thinks he should just be happy to get sex later. Not everything is about sex Penny! I know some people will also say that this is really all Leonard's fault and he should have just minded his own damn business when Penny told him to stay out of it and not tried to rewrite her paper. But, I truly believe he only wanted to do rewrite her paper because he cares so much about her he doesn't want to see her get her feelings hurt if she failed at the class. Leonard knows how insecure Penny is because he feels insecure too all the time. Leonard is much more self aware about his own shortcoming than Penny is and he at least TRIED to help her. When does Penny ever try to help Leonard with his work. UH NEVER! She helps SHeldon more than she helps Leonard out. I mean the girl would rather spend her time hanging out with Amy and Bernadette than letting her own boyfriend help her so they can both spend some quality time together outside of the bedroom and eating food all the time. I do think that Leonard was wrong to even bother to help Penny though just because no matter what he does for her she will find away to get mad at him over it and act like its because he thinks she is dumb when really its her that thinks that about herself not him. If he tried to save her from getting hit by a car crossing the street she's the type that say something like "Hey what do you think I'm not smart enough to look both ways before crossing Leonard? WELL I AM! I didn't need you to save me!" Then when he gets hit and is lying in hospital in traction for trying to save her she say it was his own stupid fault even when she knows she didn't really ook both ways first. I MEAN THAT IS A SIGN OF TRUE CRAZINESS! Way worst than Sheldon or Amy's brand of crazy. Yes, its true Leonard is too sensitive insecure clingy and desperate and even annoying at times too, but at least he tries not to be. He tries much harder than Penny to be helpful, but it always backfires on him. But, Penny doesn't even really try to help Leonard feel better about himself the way Leonard wants to make Penny feel smart. She still treats him like he is beneath her and that he should feel lucky to even be able to have sex with her. Please if thats all Leonard wanted he could buy prostitutes CRAZY GIRL! He wants LOVE! But she constantly withholds her love and then insults him instead like she did repeatedly tonight. Penny insecurity about being so stupid is her OWN ISSUE!! She blames him for making her feel stupid, but I think that stems back to her high school days too and maybe her issues with her daddy, but its not Leonard's fault she feels stupid. She ACTS stupid!! The whole episode had too many chessy high schoolish nonsense type storylines and I'm sorry, but these GROWN UPS should be past acting like they are still in high school stage that is so immature and not really that funny IMO. Its like most writers in Hollywood think people are all stuck wishing life could have been better in high school. I consider myself a nerdy girl and personally I couldn't wait to get out of high school mostly because it was just boring a lot of the time and I wanted to go to college and get out of my parents house not because I cared about what other kids at my high schools thought about me or because I want to go back and do it over again so people liked me more. Who the hell still cares what other silly teenagers in high school think once they are out of that place. Its not that important of a time those four years of life to be so hung up on it for the rest of your adult life. That is just silly both in real life and on TV. Most people move on from that childish high school behaviour shit its petty and stupid and these characters should be smart enough to know that. I don't know many real grown ups who actually want to go back to high school or act like they are still in high school or be treated as though they are still there. Amy and Bernadette are two Grown for that nonsense, they have good jobs that they love and they have a husband/boyfriend and plenty of friends now including each other not just Penny so its time to move on from those old hang ups of wanting popular girl to like them it makes them look too petty and childish. Honestly, to me Bernadette's single joke about using Mrs. Wolowitz underwear as a towel was funnier than the entire Leonard/Penny paper storyline and most of Sheldon/Hawking storyline of tonight. I felt like it was all just another excuse to make Penny feel insecure about herself so people can go Oh Poor Penny and it just made Leonard look like an overly clingy uptight prick again who can't let things go. When truth is he just wants her to be happy, if waitressing actually made her happy he'd want her to be best waitress in world. Leonard would be happy for her as long as she was happy, but the fact that she feels she has to hide stuff after they've been together this long and the fact that she didn't want him to read her paper shows how insecure and secretly unhappy she is with herself. PENNY NEEDS TO GROW UP!! Leonard can tell she is not happy with life he has been to enough therapy to see that! If she actually pursued her acting career for real and did well at it then he'd be happy for her in that area too and now that she is going to school he be happy for her not to fail. Its not about her becoming some smart genius scientist like him so he can feel better about who is dating. He already thinks and acts like Penny is most amazing beautiful perfect girl in whole world and tells her all the time how happy he is to be with her yet she is still insecure. He can tell she isn't happy and he doesn't want her to leave him so he tries way TOO HARD to make her happy. If Penny had turned in her original paper and failed she would have felt even more awful about herself and embarrassed and probably would haved tried to hide it and lie about that too. Leonard was only trying to help prevent that from being the case, but instead Penny finds another way to lie regardless and sneak around using Bernadette and Amy as her nerdy accomplices. I don't like that they make Bernadette and Amy nerd minions of Penny like they are some how beneath her character and need her love and approval to be valued as people or characters on the show. Not all nerd girls should be portrayed as hung up on being liked so much. They should have them realize its not important what those MEAN girls thought of them back in high school and that they don't want have to make up for it now with Penny. Bernadette and Amy should have back bones and tell Penny to do her own damn paper since she wants to prove to everyone that she can be smart she should do it for real and not FAKE IT! It doesn't make them look nicer by helping her lie it makes them look weak and afraid of her. Just like Sheldon giving in to losing WOF on purpose just to make Stephen Hawking be his friend make him look weak and too needy it makes Amy and Bernadette and Leonard look too weak and needy to have to do everything to keep Penny happy all time even if its only out of fear or desperate need for approval that is no way to build up any relationships with true friends. Also, it backfired on SHeldon because Stephen Hawking is a genius he probably figured out Sheldon was throwing the game and thats why he called to make fun of him. It made SHeldon look pathetic and why would Stephen Hawking want to be friends with someone who is so desperate that he feels he has to lose on purpose just to make a friend. True friends like you because they JUST DO!! They like your personality and your companionship its not about how smart or dumb or rich or poor or pretty or ugly you are and if it is then the friendship is shallow and built up on quicksand. And thesecharacters should have all figured that out by now since they have so many good friends who do actually like them despite their shortcomings. For example Penny should like Bernadette and Amy just because of who they are and not just what they do for her. If that isn't enough then she is just using them to get back at Leonard which makes her look like a terrible friend and more like a bully. But, I most say that Stephen Hawking is an Awesome sport for letting them poke fun at him so much on this show. i never was that interested in Hawking before BBT, but I certainly am now. I'm also glad he got to poke a little fun back at Sheldon tonight at the end. But, I hope it doesnt make people start treating Hawking like the new Wil Wheaton and hate him just because he was mean to Sheldon at the end Sheldon was disrespectul and mean to him FIRST "I mean wanting to nickname him "Wheels" that is just too insensitive even for Sheldon and he needs to show more of his kinder generous sweet side towards his friends and Amy and less of the selfish I don't give a damn about anyone else's problems, but my own side. That is why the Sheldon haters out there hate him because whenever he acts that way it makes him look like a bad person. You don't have to be a jerk to be funny. But us Sheldon lovers out there know deep down he really does love his friends and loves Hawking so why not find a way to let him show that without making him look like a colossal jerk just for laughs. Sheldon is much funnier when he was trying to help his friends with their problems in his own weird nerdy way like how he snuck in Penny's room to tell her not to break up with Leonard or how he helped Howard fix his space toliet or when Raj was going to get deported etc. That verison of SHeldon the one that helps his friends and still acts like an adorable child not a petulant selfish one is the better Funnier verison of SHeldon in my opinion. Lets see more of that verison and less of the mean childish baby verison. Same with Penny less of her insecure bully high school mean girl attitude and more of the kinder caring Penny that we use to see on this show. JMO take it or leave it. But yeah overall its been a disappointing week of television shows for me not just BBT but a bunch of my favorite shows had lame episodes this week. Hope next week is better cause so far I've really loved this season. Edited November 2, 2012 by Superlovelexi
annieogly Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) Fun show; major kudos to the writers this season for firmly anchoring the show in Nerdvana where it belongs.. Stephen Hawking is very cool to do that. The opening was a hoot, nice to see Raj having more to do than be sad & pathetic. More please. Also I realized how much I'd missed the guys doing nerdy stuff together in the apartment. The Words with Friends premise was fun, but I can't believe that Sheldon would deliberately lose; that seems so out of character to me. Penny's rant about not being smart enough for Leonard - break-up theme & that's where Alex comes in. Sheldon saying he 'may have to lose Amy' shocked me; I never expected that. I now think Doug is right and the Shamy too will hit a reef. The girls together were fun, Amy was her previous amusing self and it cemented what I thought the writers were doing: this is high school. I found a bit too much scene switching; the boys, the girls, P/L at dinner, bedroom, the lunchroom, A/S at the lab. It was all too busy...j p.s. many many thanks to the kind forum member who made it possible for me to watch this Edited November 2, 2012 by annieogly

Did you know some of the Lollipop Guild Shamy Shippers got so freaked out when they knew about that line from Sheldon in the taping report? I actually thought it was a throwaway line because if you look at the context, he just said it because it was her who suggested the word for him (and that line in the chess clock scene was sort of an admission that it was her word, instead of making it as if he came up with the other word so that it would be "ethical") and him winning after it made his "friendship" with Hawking hit a reef. And Shamy hitting a reef? Reading the other taping reports just made me really think otherwise.
