I've Been Nervous About Something Since...

I've been nervous about something ever since Howard and Penny (oops) Bernadette got married. I really hope the writers don't decide to bring a pregnancy into the relationship. I think it would just ruin the entire show if any of the characters start having kids.

Anyone else worried about this?

You mean Bernadette, I'm sure? LOL. Anyway, I agree. Bringing kids into the mix would be so odd to me. They're  MORE than welcome to announce they're all pregnant at the show's finale though. At least we won't see any more after that. LOL!

I think in the very latest visit to LLS with Craig Ferguson, Jim talks about the possibility of working with children, he doesn't want to, he was quite clear about that. I think they addressed H/B and children when Berni mentioned that she would be happy to have children if Howard stayed at home and looked after them, and I don't see that happening. If anyone is to have a children I would place money on Leonard and Penny, but the in the last season I hope.

Yup, terrified! TBBT has been a big part of my life for so long, it would be like losing an old friend. I couldn't stomach it going into 'family' territory. It's the death match for a show like this.

I'm also worried that one day I'll stop enjoying the new material. There has been a lot of change and some fans already feel this way. If they ruined this show, I'd be devastated and that's no exaggeration. It been years since a show has effected me like this.

Sometimes when excited newbies come to the forum and make really awful suggestions I go 'grrrrrr' and have to remind myself they are new and they will get used to the characters. I completely understand why some old guard fans get so wound up and angry. It's hard to let go, even in disappointment, because this show gets into your blood.

I agree. I'm enjoying the show very much in its present form, but there are things they could do which would disappoint me very much - one of which would be the addition of babies. Fortunately they (especially Jim) seem pretty clear on saying that they don't want to go that way. And honestly there is no realistic need for them to do so, for many years at least. Leonard/Penny and Sheldon/Amy are not even close to marrying right now, and Howard/Bernadette are very likely to wait a while before planning a family because they already have issues with it (Bernadette doesn't like kids).

Now if the show were to run for another 10 years, then they would have to consider the option seriously, but that's looking too far ahead.

Look at History to predict the future. Chuck Lorre started to add a baby to Two & Half Men when Alan got his Ex wife Pregnant. But we never saw the child and heard very little about it. Bernie in the children's magic show episode really made it clear she didn't want children to Howard's disappointment. I once heard someone say adding a child to a comedy show was Jumping the Shark. I believe adding a child would really mess up BBT.

Having kids on the show doesn't scare me as much, in later seasons, as much as Jim quiting the show because he wants to do other things. Kaley is my second worry because she is also doing movies now, however she seems to want the show to go 10 seasons by the interviews she has given.

Honestly, there would be no show without Jim. IMO he's the backbone of TBBT.

I'm quite sure that Jim won't just leave - he's said many times that he would stick with the show till the bitter end. The worst that could happen would be his sticking around reluctantly, just for the sake of loyalty, when he actually wants to be doing something else - even that would affect his performance and spoil the charm of the show quite a lot. Thankfully, at the moment he seems very happy with the material he's getting (Sheldon's evolution, the 'deeper moments' given to him, working with Mayim). Let's hope the writers (and Jim) manage to keep it that way.

This show has the potential for going many more seasons if the writers can keep the same level of comedy in the show. All the main characters are already paired up, except Raj, and most of the fans like the pairing. The L/P and S/A getting married would not be a great leap in the show and all of them as married couples could still be very funny because the guys are still nerds and the girls are not (Amy is not a nerd, she is socially niave). This is one show where the characters can grow and age, yet the show can still go on. I really think only bad writing (ratings) or the actors quiting can end this show.

I'm sure that a lot of people would still watch the show and it would continue to do very well, from a ratings point of view. Personally, I would not enjoy it. Those kind of programmes, with family themes and child actors just don't interest me in the slightest. I'm hoping if it ever happens, that I would have found something new to fall in love with. A brand new up and coming show that no one knows about yet… that would be the business.

Bernie stated in the magic show episode that she doesn't want kids to ruin her social life. Sheldon stated while discussing costume possibilities that one of the things he really dislikes are children. While Leonard was discussing prenuptial agreements with Penny because of H/B he stated he would want one. She said why and he said if he is home watching the kids while she is out of town filming a movie with (I forget the actor he mentioned) messing around "Then Leonard needs to get paid. Penny laughed not complaining at all about not wanting kids. Also, Kaley during an interview on AOTS stated she would like Penny to marry Leonard and have little Leonards running around the apartment. Having said all that I really doubt seriously if any of the couples ever have a child on the show.

If this show is still doing good at season 10, then I could see Penny being pregnant in season 11 and delvering in the last episode. It season 12 they could have a kid and move into the apartment above Sheldon, but this would all depend on the show staying funny.

In an earlier post I stated I didn't think they would go the baby route. However, it appears to me that Amy's 4 year plan to marry Sheldon will be sped up by her. I just don't see her being that patient. If that is so she even more so then Penny would want kids ASAP IMO. Although I can also see where Penny would want children. Especially since Kaley said as much in an interview.

I think Amy may want to marry sooner, but I think she would be happy just being married and both she and Sheldon working toward greatness in their careers for a while as a married couple. I don't see her wanting kids right away, although I do know she would want them eventually. But I could see them speeding up her agenda for marriage sooner, especially given how fast they have moved Sheldon along this season. :icon_wink:
