Well, IMNSHO Penny needs to have some kind of big accomplishment while Leonard is gone to shore up her self-esteem and put her, in her mind, on a more equal footing with Leonard. Since TPTB seem to have ruled out any acting success for her, and she has no other realistic options. I am not optimistic for any rapid movement on the L/P relationship front next season. In fact, I believe there will be regression.

Writer 1: Well, Leonard and Penny are together, now what, we have to write them for 3 more years at least.

Writer 2: Uuuuh

Writer 3: Ummmm

Chuckles the Producer: Don't worry guys, I will think of something

The horror.......

In Penny's mind it is only recently that they have come to be on more equal footing.  There have been several instances where she has vocalized her feelings that Leonard would never break up with her and that he would never do anything to hurt her, not because of her faith in him as a good person or his love for her, but more or less because she believed that he was lucky to get her.   I don't see where she needs anything to build her self esteem as far as her relationship with Leonard goes.

I really not very interested what the actors love life is.---  As for Penny and Leonard,  I am of the opinon that by the end of this season they will be engaged.

February or May would be my guess, with a lot of promo, for the obvious reasons. Of course, the ILY part of The 43 Peculiarity wasn't part of the promos.

5Mississipis's avatar makes me think Leonard will again grow a beard while he is away and he will keep it past the cold open this time. Could be a point of comic tension. Conversely, she might think it makes him more attractive. And then he'll finally use those bike lesson coupons, get a Harley and take her for a ride up Hwy 1 to Big Sur to revisit that event in the Love Car Displacement. If he gets a tattoo (which is traditional for men of the sea, one of which he will be), that would be icing on the cake... After that, they have to get engaged. How could she still resist. Hehehe.

When it comes to her appearance, you are probably right. She's cute and she knows it. Haha but I think disgusted was referring more to her self esteem in her career. She has always felt inferior to the other guys when it comes to this and I think disgusted is right, there will probably have to be something big happen for Penny, career wise, before she will propose, but I can't see them regressing next season, I really do think the writers will continue to strengthen their relationship, especially after the huge ratings last season.

I already have a beard, Harley, and tattoos. It's a seven day trip to Pasadena from here. I can get there faster than Leonard.

Keep dreamin', Sunshine.

But, he and his group of North Sea survivors could get a tattoo like the Nine did at the end of LOTR. I'm sure there would be a parlour near the Scottish docks, and it would entirely in keeping with the spirit of show for him to do something like that. Just not a rainbow or unicorn tramp stamp, but maybe "Penny". Something cute, funny and perchance a bit lame. It would piss off his mum, too.

I hope they get around this problem (of her career holding back her personal life), but then again the formal commitment is probably nice but redundant. I take her declaration in the Tangible Affextion Proof as the indicator of her intentions. It would be sad to for them to depict that she has to have a commercial success to marry or be engaged. It's too materialistic. And she should feel worthy as she is, otherwise what sort of statement is the show making about people who don't "have it all". The two things (career and relationship) should not be so closely coupled. IMHO. But they have not said that this is her problem anyway, so we will have to see how they play it out.

Hmm, i dont really mean that she would have to have some big sort of success. I'm not expecting her to become famous overnight, i would just like her to have something that was sort of hers. Okay this is hard to explain at this time of night! haha I dont know if it would actually stop her proposing, just maybe for her overall happiness. Like i dont think she would be content being 'just a waitress' married to a physicist. I think she would want something, some sort of career of her own, or to be doing something that she is good and successful at. Even if it is just her taking more interest in school, doing more classes that she enjoys and doing well at them.

This probably reads horribly. its just after 3am and my head is officially mush, i hope you kinda sorta get what i meant though! time for bed i think!

Agree. She needs hope, and some incremental success in a concrete form. Otherwise they are just beating up on her and flogging a stereotype. And why are you up at 3am? No reply necessary. Lol.

You know many of the other characters have moved in their careers, Bernadette went from waitress to PHD, Howard went to space, and now Leonard works with Dr Hawkin.  Sheldon has gotten awards, Amy's articles are in important science journals, and Raj is in People Magazine, but Penny gets nothing. It seems the writers don't want Penny to change, she has to be the sterotype blood girl who comes to Hollywood to be a star and ends up a career waitress.  It is sort of depressing and has already gotten too old.  THey need to do something good for Penny's career.  She doesn't have to be a famous star, but at least let her make some money acting so she only has to work part time at the Cheesecake factory.

YES. Give her some wins, like more commercials or small parts; any kind of progression would be fair. Leonard shouldn't be her financial saviour, because that's a little bit coercive.

Eta. I meant that it shouldn't be a driver for her decision regarding their relationship. Once they are married its all common property I think. If she is getting by ok on her own financially she is better able to exercise choice.

Do you really think, at this point, that anything he does could get her approval?

BEVERLY: So Leonard you've been elected President, Still not Pope yet?

That made me laugh. I think he should put the rebellion pedal to the metal. Marry the waitress AND tat up. Just not so much that would annoy Wyatt, so no neck tattoos. LOL. Edited by Nogravitasatall

It would be funny if they had Leonard's father come by with his waitress girlfriend.  They could cast an actor that looks a lot like Leonard, even in height, and cast a girl that looks like a little older version of Penny.  It would be so funny when they meet and the guys would be going 'What the Frack!'

Or perhaps they could 'age' Johnny and Kaley (only slightly for Kaley so the 'waitress' is clearly younger than Beverly) and have them play the older versions.

What a great ideal and it would give Johnny and Kaley a bone with some meat on it to work with.  Talk about some great comedy in my opinion.

At this point Leonard (as long as he keeps his job and marries Penny) could turn himself into the Illustrated man, and Wyatt would be happy. He just wants Penny to Marry a good man with a future.

That is a great idea, but since they tape live, they could never have Leonard and his father or Penny and his father's girlfriend in the same scene.
