Squidley Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I suggest Leonard's tattoo to be a cookie.
eirwinrommel Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 That is a great idea, but since they tape live, they could never have Leonard and his father or Penny and his father's girlfriend in the same scene. They do pre-tape some scenes. They could pre-tape those and do the rest live.
eirwinrommel Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 (edited) Or perhaps they could 'age' Johnny and Kaley (only slightly for Kaley so the 'waitress' is clearly younger than Beverly) and have them play the older versions. If they did this a question could be will Leonard's father wear a suit or will he dress 'young'. If he dresses young they could have him and Leonard constantly be mistaken for each other (if not too cliche). Plus it would save on wardrobe. Another note on this is that Howard claims he knows all of Leonard's shirts, would he be fooled? rickfromillinois Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I would like to see Beverly show up with a young waiter and her trying to look younger, and asking Penny for romance advice.
ArmyGirl Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) I rather Leonard's father be introduced to us over having Beverly back with her hating on her son. I don't see her adding anything new to the show at the time. I'm sure Leonard father can be just as dismissive as his mother where he is concerned. rickfromillinois Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I never saw Beverly "hating" on her son. Disaproval, dissapointment, or lack of interest is not hate.
ArmyGirl Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Hate or no hate Beverly would bring nothing new to the show. Also Beverly don't even like her own son Leonard so why do we need another character back that adds to the belittling, degrading, and all things anti-Leonard to the show. Nogravitasatall Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Beverly was, I think, wrong as a scientist to mock Leonard's attempt replicate the work of another group. "Leonard: Fine. Let’s go. I think you’ll find my work pretty interesting. I’m attempting to replicate the dark matter signal found in sodium iodide crystals by the Italians. Beverley: So, no original research? Leonard: No. Beverley: Well, what’s the point of my seeing it? I could just read the paper the Italians wrote." The show maybe played an inside joke that missed its point. Leonard was doing good and necessary work to ensure that the results published by the Italians were repeatable and that the science was sound. Beverly only demonstrated her own failings by being unsupportive of his efforts. A viewer might of thought she was correct in her implicit assertion that his efforts were worthless, but Beverly was just being a bitch. Generally, Leonard makes the right choices and everybody else is wrong and they just don't see it. His big stuff up was Priya. Luckily she cocked it up more than him. Penny is now on board so it would be interesting to see them team up to "defeat" his antagonistic mother. It could be an affirming event. I don't think that TPTB realize that some don't get that Beverly or Sheldon are wrong when it comes to Leonard's work, imo. We all know that some people believe what they hear if it is said over and over. For me I don't need another Sheldon on the show to carry on the anti-Leonard garbage and for me Beverly is just the female version of Sheldon. As for Penny taking on Beverly, remember she got to Penny in a matter of minutes and I don't see that changing either.

Well, evil mother/mother-in-law is a long established theme, so you are probably right. It would be clever of TPTB if they turned it around. One can only hope. Tensor Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 As for Penny taking on Beverly, remember she got to Penny in a matter of minutes and I don't see that changing either.I'm far from a Beverly fan (However, I'm a big fan of Christine Baranski) and agree with just about everything else, but Penny held her own on Beverly's second trip, near Christmas (The Maternal Congruence). She refused to engage her at the apartment and then got Beverly drunk and let her make a fool of herself, so Penny pretty much got the better of her there. Beverly hasn't been back since (not counting the Skype session in The Skank Reflex Analysis).
Nogravitasatall Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 (edited) It makes me wonder how much they will play "the rise and rise of Leonard Hofstadter". He really is on the ascendant, despite Sheldon's delusions. He got the girl, the job and seems to be generally doing well. Whether his mother is an antagonist that he defeats, compromises with or converts I don't know. That's a very fundamental relationship and it would too soppy to have them reconcile. I want Leonard and Penny to unite to deal with her. Maybe they fight to a truce. But Penny should be seen to back Leonard against his mum as well as holding her own as she did very well, as Tensor notes. Its a "motherhood" issue, so we'll see how brave TPTB are. Will his mum be a dragon for him to slay? Maybe, in the last season. Eta I was trying to allude to "The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer". Film . Leonard as President. Hehe. The job with Hawking really is a BIG THING. Any experimental physicist would be glad to work with Hawking's team (hell they'd probably pay their own plane fare), And they chose Leonard. That's the sort of thing that (unless Leonard screws up) marks him as being at the top of his field. I do think Penny tried to become buddies with Beverly on the second visited and I wondered why did she go out of her way to do this. I used to be a faithful viewer of The Good Wife and loved Christine Baranski on the show (no longer watch it), I don't like or enjoy her as Beverly (the character) on TBBT. As an actor myself (Please don't read that as me putting myself in her class, because she has more talent in her left arm than I have in total. I don't know if you saw the movie "Chicago", but she was the woman newspaper reporter, which shocks a lot of people), I can appreciate how good of an actor she is to make me dislike her character so much. I remember I always thought she outshone Cybill Shepherd. I just read the wiki page and realised Cybil could be where Penny ends up. Ie Penny is a young Cybill. Arrghhh. And there was a Me-Maw in it. Lol. Auto-homage much? Edited July 29, 2013 by Nogravitasatall

Disgusted Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Do you really think, at this point, that anything he does could get her approval? BEVERLY: So Leonard you've been elected President, Still not Pope yet? Gru: "Mom, someday I will go to the moon" Gru's mom: "You're too late son, NASA stopped sending the monkeys into space." If Leonard wants mommy's approval, perhaps success in a relationship with Penny, an area where Beverly has some shortcomings, might serve better than any academic/professional achievement. It could be funny for two reasons, ... and Amy could get upset on how close Beverly and Sheldon are. The reaction of the Shamy would be priceless.
