Leonard And Penny Shippers Thread (Possible Spoilers)

I don't get it all either. They are complementary, and non-rivalrous. There is history I think that Disgusted alludes to, but some of it relates to the perception of Sheldon as being an obstacle to L/P. He's not always the sweetest fellow, to either Leonard or Penny. Some of it arises from the response to criticism of Sheldon and his transitions from "no deal" to "deal". There have been challenges mounted to the contention that the character change portrayed from s1-3 to s4+ is unrealistic. Much heat has arisen and ingenious ripostes exchanged. I was told to jump off a cliff, which was very specific (and the suicide method of choice in Sydney - the Gap near Vaucluse), but I chose otherwise.

And the 21 min cake is too small. So to that extent, there is rivalry.

not a comprehensive answer, but a quick stab at it.

ETA. Tripper should publish a history LOL

Eta 2. Lorre actively stabbed L/P in the heart a number of times and it could of been fatal. Shamy is perhaps being a victim of benign neglect. Maybe it resolves to who has bigger scars. IDK. But every cut hurts, even paper cuts.

cheers and thanks for asking.

For the sake of Tripper's sanity, I hope he neither cares nor has any bloody idea. :)

From an email I just wrote to a Lenny shipper:

In regards to this recent interview of Molero's, I'm not sure why the Shamy and Lenny shippers are not holding hands and saying, "Wow, well that really didn't give either of us much hope or insight, did it? Seriously, that whole interview seemed to be about Sheldon and Penny - with the cravat that their relationship was one of siblings, and anything romantic was a "probably not," so we know nothing is going to happen there either. So, bottom line, we don't have ANY insights into what will happen to any of the couples. We only know that nothing is going to happen to make Amy jealous. Leonard is having a great time on his boat. Great."

I think everyone is filtering the summer hiatus news through the filter of, "what is going to happen to my ship." And pretty much, they are going to totally duck answering that question. What shippers want to know is: would Leonard's absence advance or effect the Lenny relationship, or would Leonard's absence affect Amy and Sheldon's relationship? And for that matter, how would it affect Sheldon and Leonard's relationship itself? Instead we get Molero going on about how it's going to bring Sheldon and Penny closer - the last relationship any of us were actually worried about, or where we thought it would have the most emotional impact. Last time Leonard left, missing him so desperately is what started Penny and Leonard's relationship in the first place. So you would think it would do *something* for them when he goes away again - the idea it brings Penny and Sheldon closer is not what we were looking for, nor what we care about.

However, if Molero says it brings Sheldon and Penny closer, and mentions Amy and Bernadette going on a trip, for all I know the bonding Sheldon and Penny do could be over missing Leonard. Or missing Amy. Or both of their significant others running around apparently doing just fine without them, which would be huge blows to their egos. (Or, I could see Sheldon bitching to Penny how this is intolerable, and Penny giving Sheldon one of her sisterly lectures about how you're supposed to want for the better for your boyfriend/girlfriend, and be happy that they don't revolve their world around you, which Sheldon thinks about and then promptly rejects.) Or, Penny and Sheldon could create their own bowling League and finally have some activity in common and become best pals. I have no idea. Perhaps they really get into underwater basket weaving. No, seriously, Penny could suddenly find it absolutely riveting to go to lectures on parking meters at city hall with Sheldon. Can't you see that?

No?

I actually appreciated coming into the Lenny thread to read some of the comments here. I learned a few interesting things, such as how badly Molero has been attacked by Shenny shippers. I had actually noted to someone else that I read Steve as a little bit of a people pleasing kinda guy, and I felt that he was directly asked about Sheldon and Penny getting together, said no, and then felt a need to modify his statement and almost overcompensate for turning that idea down by swearing up and down how much he loved Sheldon and Penny's relationship - as a sibling one. It seemed to me, after that point in the article, that he spent the rest of it overcompensating, and trying to verbally support Sheldon and Penny's relationship - to such an extreme that some of his statements didn't even make sense. Sheldon knows Penny is always on his side? They have this lovey dovey relationship and really, truly, utterly love each other? Like I pointed out in the Shamy thread, in 6.23, which Molero would have written, Penny needed her alcohol - the magic juice which made Sheldon tolerable. After I read the article I ended up wondering if Molero has actually been watching the show he's been writing, and you know, truth of the matter is that I'm absolutely positive he has. I also haven't read about him receiving any massive blows to the head, or a brain-eating virus, so chances are he hasn't lost his entire memory of the past 6 seasons he's been a part of either.

My wish would certainly be that both the Lenny and Shamy ship are in this together. Howard and Bernadette are married and resolve their problems fairly quickly, and this show almost always goes for sweetness and charm over drama, so there's no real need to worry about those two getting a divorce or splitting up. I think we all know that Lenny and Shamy is where the drama is going to come from, and they have 4 more seasons of these two couples that they have to fill. It seems unrealistic to me to think we're going to get through 4 seasons without one of the couples splitting, or running into some massive problems, before they come to the end. Just because Leonard and Penny have 3 seasons of suffering on Shamy shippers, or just because Shamy shippers have no physical romance to hold onto whereas the Lenny ship has plenty of kisses and romantic moments and conversations in bed to cherish, doesn't mean that the next four seasons we're not all going to be "shipmates" and in the same boat together for the next four years - wondering how they are going to make two couples that are obviously meant to be endgame interesting. How will they make us continue to root for both couples over 4 years without, heaven forbid, throwing marriage into the works, or even worse, babies?

So would it be possible for the two ships to act like shipmates and support each other, rather than gleefully trying to "make each others heads explode?" I don't know if we'll really all hold hangs and sing "Soft Kitty" in a round or anything, but we could stop pointing and laughing when the other ship is upset over their chosen ship's status or storyline.

I'm for running the experiment. Lol :).

But it sounds a little like herding kittys. Or stuffing an octopus into a string bag. tvtropes actually used the expression "cold war". The thing is, its a lightly moderated anarchy. And any blocs are very loose affiliations. But there are some heaps smart and fast typing people with lots to say around this site.

Just the idea of Lenny vs Shamy cracks me up to be honest. These 4 are the most adorable set of besties ever, and we are bitching about who has to suffer? LOL. Soft kitty indeed. Not to mention, it makes this whole thing sound like it's a geopolitical crisis where the neighboring nation goes "Now you see what we suffered through!!!". I didn't know part of the requirements of life was to suffer for a fictional couple so I can empathize with other shippers of other couples. I don't ship Lenny per-se, but I like them a lot and I strongly hope TPTB never screws them up again. I was appalled to hear that breaking them up again was actually on the cards for early S6. I just wish writers took better care of all the characters. I don't think it takes all that much to pay attention to one's continuity and occasionally rewatch episodes to get a feel for things. That's one thing this show seriously needs to work on.

Wow, things got kinda crazy in here! I myself don't see any real problem with the interview and I certainly don't see any major problems for the two main couples. I'm delighted there's going to be some good shenny interaction. When it's done right, it can be pretty hilarious.

I just can't get over the whole one hour premiere thing. Like its getting me so excited! I really can't wait to see what they have lined up for us :)

I'm sitting here bemused, wearing a funny blue hat. LOL. I don't really know what happened, but I don't like how it ended. Haha.

I read the article and thought none of the clever things everyone else did, and only got a little perturbed about displaced hopes for non-canon relationships being unrealistically lifted. Then it's all a blur, and now I'm in a zone.

Can you tell me if I made it worse?

Eta yes happy about the one hour but will it be conjoined or just a back to back?

..., so I have no experience with where any of the tension comes from.

Can I be informed thusly?

It's probably all my fault. :fi_lone_ranger:

A brief history of time, by Disgusted:

In the beginning, there was a boy and a girl. [And the boy's weird friend.]

For the boy[let's call him Leonard] it was love at first sight. For the girl, Penny[for your thoughts], an encounter with a pair of "beautiful minds" who turn out to be neighbors.

Nature takes its course, and a few years later, Leonard and Penny are together. Then disaster strikes.

Now we must change our frame of reference and step back, because this is a TV show, and it has just been renewed for 4 years.

In his infinite wisdom, he who must not be named decides to break up the pair near the end of the season, the better to have "interesting " story lines in the future.

So, people fret throughout the summer about what this means.

And then season 4.

Penny was taken off the pedestal and ruined in every way possible, culminating in the Raj affair, which was just disgusting.

That's where I come in.

At the end of season 4, a lot of people came onto the forums to express their displeasure with this turn of events. [Most of them are gone now...... Kind of sad to be the last of your kind.]

There they found people mesmerized at the antics of the room-mate [lets call him Sheldon] They really didn't care about Leonard and Penny

Conflict was inevitable. The less said about that the better. But it continues to this day.

So today after 2 years of rehabilitation Leonard and Penny are finally back in a good place.

But the show is up for renewal again.

I think we are all nervous.

FINI

P.S. enjoy:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0utOWwrFZh4

I agree in your scenerio both sides should be equally upset. But it appears only one side is. Someone commented to me earlier about the Raj/Penny hook up. I wasn't upset by it but many Lennys can't watch that episode.. That actually happened on the show. What some people are basing all of season 7 on is that interview and not on something that actually happened on the show. In regards to S/P  I think their relationship is somewhere between what you think and what Molaro thinks.

I really couldn't tell u if u made it worse. I'm still shocked it happened. I mean, I understand the Lennys and Shamys having a problem with the Shennys. Well the ones looking for a romantic relationship anyway. But with each other? That's not cool. Haha.

I think they are just going to be back to back. Although I'm not really sure!

Part of the problem IMO is certain people don't like Penny and her involvement with certain character(s). Is that PC enough?

Penny is certainly formidable competition, especially when she gives them both barrels.

Something on this thread has changed, I feel better already.

Safe Zone?? Does that mean forced love?? I guess I don't know the rules of a safe zone.

Think of it as posters can't argue against the L/P ship or make disparaging comments about the ship, within this thread. In other threads, those posters can make comments against the ship all they want, within the decorum of the forum.

Really it just means this thread is for people who ship Leonard & Penny and should be free of argument from people who disagree. It doesn't mean L&P shippers can't debate amongst themselves, provided it stays civil, but it does mean the thread shouldn't be used by supporters of other ships to attack L&P shippers.

So, going to a shenny thread and saying that romantic shenny will never happen and thus all the romantic shennies are delusional and should seek serious therapy would not be allowed in a 'safe zone' shenny thread?

In theory, you are correct.

"Safe Zone", "Lenny Shippers", "Shamy Shippers" - people outside this TBBT fan world wouldn't believe it in a million years.  I wonder if even the show cast would believe it.

No criticism intended, as I am, for sure, a Lenny Shipper!  It's just...well, fascinating.

Cheers.

Was someone feeling "un" safe?

More on the other thread. If things don't appear to be running  smoothly with" you know you" (feels like Harry Potter) a couple people tend to lose it.
