I have to say the season premiere has too many shades of Season 2 for me.  TBPT has done everything they can to once again have Penny and Sheldon alone. Bernie and Amy are off on their own and I am sure writers will find a way for Howard and Raj to be absent too. Not to mention the writers cooked up some fake trip for Leonard to be gone.

I have to say the season premiere has too many shades of Season 2 for me.  TBPT has done everything they can to once again have Penny and Sheldon alone. Bernie and Amy are off on their own and I am sure writers will find a way for Howard and Raj to be absent too. Not to mention the writers cooked up some fake trip for Leonard to be gone.

In what way is the trip fake? He really is going on the ship so... im confused.

 

I personally look forward to the Sheldon and Penny bonding scenes. It was something that was always going to happen with Leonard being away, although i did expect there to be a little more Shamy bonding with it too, i do find it odd they aren't going down that route at all. Sheldon is no threat in the Leonard/Penny relationship, no matter how much the Shennys would argue otherwise. The way i see it, its like a brother and sister bonding after years of being at each other throats. I fully expect Penny to pretty much be all over Leonard as soon as he arrives back and i wouldn't be surprised if any 'bonding' the Shenny share is forgotten about in the next episode. Its happened before.

Why is this such an issue? Sheldon and Penny have rarely been alone in 2 seasons. I can only think of the fun with flags scene and the incident with the chair.

This is true, and part of the reason i look forward to seeing what kind of Sheldon/Penny stuff they give us.

Well, it makes sense that Penny and Sheldon might be bonding in Leonard's absence (Sorry, Shenny shippers, I'm not headed down that road).  They are friends, they live across the hall from each other, Leonard asked Penny to keep an eye on Sheldon, and, I think, Penny's maternal instincts are coming out.  Yep, her maternal instincts.  She has a caring quality that's becoming more obvious as she matures.

 

Although I admit that Amy should have a more significant role in taking care of Sheldon, how can the writers ignore the comic opportunities with Penny and Sheldon trying to get along in Leonard's absence?

 

It will be interesting to see if and for how long they keep Leonard at sea before he comes home.  My guess is 1-2 episodes without Leonard, but no more than that.

 

So, 2 back to back 1/2 hour episodes for season premier, huh?  That's interesting.  I'm sure ratings will be through the roof that night.

So want that. None of Sheldons shenanigans for a bit. I was trying to think of a simile, as in "she'd be all over him, like fake tan on a Kardashian". Please, someone do better.

I personally have no problem with Penny and Sheldon together, I think they are hilarious. The Christmas gift scene is my all time favorite.

From a purely business standpoint, Sheldon has a lot of name recognition, and Kaley has become very high profile due to her commercials. It only makes sense to put them together for the first few episodes, because they are the ones new viewers will be tuning in to see. If they can hook new viewers, without chasing away current viewers, it's a win.

I don't think the recent histrionics will change viewership one iota.

Yeah I agree the Season 6 finalie is reminessance of S2 Finalie, I remember when Leoanard returned Lenny was based on how much Penny missed Leoanard, and most of the season was Sheldon playing hypotenuse between Penny and Leonard, those were some of the classic moments of Big Bang in S3. So although no Leonard and cannot imagine the show without him, it brings out some comedic moments too.

Welcome (for some reason | want to say) dude. There is a theory that TPTB are revisiting the past, only getting it right this time. That way we go to a new future, with bright, shiny - but slowly realised - hopes. And absence of Leonard as an anchor means that they get to run loose at home, which can only be funny. I think though most of the show is based around the interaction between Leonard and Sheldon, although their was less of that and more Lenny and Shamy in S6. It would be kinda cool if Penny moved in and slept in Leonards room if she missed him that much haha, but I cannot see that happening Penny is a very independant person, that and she became very domesticated in S6, the way she pre planned meals for Leonard almost like a housewife. A Far Cry from their relationship in S3, when she would come home late from Work and they would order take out lol. It would be really funny too if for their weekly chinese meals, Raj brought home a girl who Amy and Bernadette or equaly disliked, alot of comedy in that especially if Sheldon stomps his foot down on his spot, because I have always found it funny when outsiders come in and sit in his spot and don't care, just goes to show how much they put up with him

They could have a welcome back party for Leonard and Raj could bring Alex. The girls would think Alex is trying to get close to Leonard but the guys knowing that Raj really does like Alex. I think people wouuld like seeing Penny getting really jealous. But as Disgusted pointed out the actress is going to be on NCIS and so an Alex reappearance  is unlikely to happen.
