Nogravitasatall
I am in full agreement.SRAM, I have seen it happen too while serving the Army and I don't want to see it play out on TBBT. It would destroy the character Penny and the show and as much as I don't care for Sheldon that much it would kill his character too. I think what bothers me the most is the vile that is directed toward Leonard for no good reason other than he is supposedly keeping Penny and Sheldon apart. The so called Shenny don't care that Lenny is cannon or that TPTB said there wasn't a P/S romantic pairing and never would be. Leonard is always treated so bad by the fanfic writers and I think it's kind of scary that these writers have that kind of hate for a fictional characters. Also, I don't want to believe that the writers would do something stupid, tho after Penny/Raj anything is possible. Just hope they don't do anything crazy like have Penny cheat on Leonard. I don't think the show could recover nor could the character Penny, imo. A helpful axiom for me is "you can't reason with unreasonable people". So I trust that TPTB remain reasonable and run their enterprise accordingly. Delivery of the shenny is entirely unreasonable.
Guitars1964
Nicholas, "I'm sure plenty would disagree with me and that's fine but I'll happily shed a few tears if the moments right." I'm fairly new to the TBBT forum, but based on a lot of what I read, as well as the Fan Fiction, I'd guess that most people, at least the Leonard & Penny fans, would agree with you. A lot of us would enjoy seeing a little more depth, if that's the right term. I know we all understand that it is a situation comedy, but it feels to me that the writers have intentionally taken us to the brink of that at times, so they "get it." I think the Season 6 Finale airport scene gave us something that we'd been looking for with Penny's ILY and their goodbye. I agree that a good sitcom CAN allow some tender/ teary moments. What scares us sometimes is what seems like sudden left turns by the writers for the gag value, and I think, I hope, that the writers will avoid any serious violation (e.g., Penny becomes unfaithful during Leonard' North Sea trip). hamerman55
"Amy connects Sheldon to "normal" and Leonard connects Penny to nerd" Hamerman55, I agree mostly with your comments in that post, and I surely am no expert on the show, but Amy hasn't struck me as "normal." I will admit that the writers have humanized her a lot since she first appeared - she is, in my view, the most changed character on the show. She was almost a robot in those early scenes. But she doesn't seem normal to me. Seems unlikely she'd fit in with a bunch of Penny's girlfriends on a night on the town. I do not think Amy is "normal" nor is Leonard. Amy and Leonard are the connections between "normal" and nerd. Penny represents "normal" and Sheldon represents the nerd. Amy and Leonard have a foot in both camps. I agree that Amy would not fit in with any of Penny's season 1 friends, and we saw that Leonard really didn't fit in with Penny's football watching friends either. Leonard, and to a lesser extent, Amy and Bernadette, have drawn Penny farther into the nerd culture than Leonard and Amy have drawn Sheldon into more normal behavior. I don't think the show could recover nor could the character Penny, imo. I have a feeling that the writers didn't realize what they were getting into with having Raj and Penny sleep together. They glossed over it pretty quickly, probably because the fanbase as a group hated it. Even the Shenny's hated it, I suspect. By all accounts, that was a way out move, and seemed to serve little or no narrative purpose. The only potential purpose, which was not explicated, was to delay Penny and Leonard getting back together. It really made zero sense for Leonard to keep the relationship with Priya going after she moved back to India, since it was clear before and during the relationship that there was no way Priya would even admit to having a relationship with Leonard. It should have ended right then, and Penny could have smoothly moved on Leonard once he mourned the relationship for an episode or two. I feel pretty confident that Molaro will have nothing to do with breaking Leonard and Penny up at this point. There is far more humor to be derived at this point with them together, than recycling old plots that didn't really work earlier. There are plenty of examples of sitcom couples that stay together, and are funny. This can be done. Leonard is still a nerd and Penny is still a hot wanna-be actress. Many on this thread have suggested ways to keep the couple together and funny. Many of the plots in Season 2 would have worked fine with them together. DrBootsHofstadter
It's quiet in here. Too quiet. .... da da da da dadadada .... [turns around at the ominous 'Jaws' music] Oh no! [DrBoots screams and points horrified to TBBT TPTB as she sees them scribbling the Season 7 premier episode]. Leonard gets lost at sea! On a boredom filled night, he recreates the Titanic 'king of the world' scene and as the North Sea mist fogs his glasses, he oversteps and falls off the boat! Delusional and suffering from amnesia after bumping his head during the lovely re-enactment, he gets rescued by a herring boat captain, Ingrid! Ingrid, a tall, shapely blond [a la Penny] who, by necessity, wears horn-rimmed glasses [a la 'molecules' Penny]! Ingrid/Penny loves Leonard and participates fully in his delusion by reciting 'The Owl and the Pussycat' incessantly. Confused and befuddled Leonard truly believes he is with Penny and together they sail the seas in love and fish while they search for the Turkey that lives on the Hill! Back in Pasadena, Penny is devastated and realizes she wants to marry a physicist! She convinces Sheldon to dump Amy and marry her! Leonard gets hit in the head with a herring and his memory returns and he pleads with Ingrid/Penny to return him Penny and Pasadena! The SS Herring4U pulls into Pasadena just as Penny and Sheldon exit All Saints Church hand in hand, while all the happy friends throw rice at them! [Noooooooo! DrBoots screams and falls to the ground. Nooooooo!] Do you see the dark places my mind travels when I am left to my own devices?! Do you see?! Pleeeeasse! Someone! Say something! hamerman55
@ DrBootsHofstadter, Ok, you have just gone Shenny!!!! That's what sensory deprivation does. Or so it seems. Nooo! Leonard has had a hard enough time due to the cruel writers. He needs a break this season. For six seasons, it has been heavy lifting for him with regard to pretty much everything. This trip to the North Sea should be a break for him, not more trouble.
hamerman55
I was posting on "The Bon Voyage Reaction" thread, and realized that the reason Sheldon likes Leonard around isn't that he can't do for himself, he simply would much rather like someone to do stuff for him. Sheldon even stated it pretty baldly in "The Friendship Contraction". He wants others "to make his life easier". Not, I can't do these things, rather I want you to do them for me. This summer will be good for Sheldon, as he can start getting used to Leonard not being around and doing for him. Penny worries about Sheldon, but not enough to want to pseudo-adopt him. I'm fairly sure that Penny would be just fine with Amy looking after Sheldon so she can have Leonard all to herself.
SRAM
I heard the writers are working on the first season 7 episode and it goes like this: Leonard comes dragging himself home from the North Sea and stops to tell Penny he is home. No one sees Leonard and Penny again for a month and don't know what happened to them until Sheldon one day accidentally gets mail for Penny Hofstadter. Nogravitasatall
Mate, I have suffered alongside Leonard in real time since the first broadcast here in 2008. Too bloody right he's done the hard yards. He's been between the hammer and the anvil for so long. He'd better get a fair run in S7. I'll use the word unconscionable again if they punch on, on him, again. While the "little guy" has deep comedic roots and Galecki can execute a pratfall with the best of them (strewth, that bloke can take a hit when he walks into a door or post) Chaplin did get the girl from time to time. There has been enough flamin' pathos around his character and it would be verging on cruel to put more existential threats in the way of the LP. Not to mention tptb would have to have more than a few roos loose in the top paddock to let that cracking sheila stab herself in the eye again with a blunt stick. They have handed him the rough end of the pineapple so often that if they don't give him the breaks now he may as well knock the bails off, up stumps, pack his kit and go play elsewhere. And they just spent most of the season unfracking Penny. So I'm very hopeful they'll give our cobber and his bonza sweetheart a fair dinkum and red hot go in the fall/spring season (depending on your hemisphere)and I don't have to just read about it in excellent ff. Do the characters have any regional accents? I understand Sheldon has an East Texas drawl but anyone else?Well, Raj has an Indian accent. And Sheldon's isn't all the time. Other than that, I can hear a bit of an upper midwest every now and then in Leonard, but that's from Johnny.I grew up there and he was there until 13-14, so it may be more of something I can hear, because I was used to hearing it. Most actors though work to keep their voices accent free, unless needed. You can learn to speak in a region neutral voice, but it does take work.
