Ship Zone The Shamy Thread! (Season 6 Edition-Spoilers)

Anyway, rather than worry about haters I'd worry about the fact that from here on it's going to be torture. 2 eps a month. Sobs. I'm already pulling my hair out as it is with new stuff every 3-4 days, I don't know how I'll cope.

Sorry, didn't mean to start trouble.  My initial gut response was to feel sad for Amy, but then I thought about how it would come across when brought to life by the brilliant actors we adore and I realized how cute it is.  She's flirting, which is a great way of gently letting someone know that an advance would not be refused.  From the promos, it looks like they were flirting some in the Valentine's day episode.  If the writers are going to add some playfulness to the relationship, I'll be happy.

Well now my mood is thrown out of the window so I feel like it's not worth freaking out over the shamy thread anymore because you still have to walk on eggshells and you're not allowed to say what's obviously going to be said.

You see Amy doesn't need a pity party. She is SO much more than that! MOST ppl are saying : GO AMY! Make an honest man out of him. This couple does not play for standard couple rules...they are totally and completely Shamy (which is an exalted class of coupledom).

Besides, and as I keep pointing out, he didn't flat out say "NO" to Amy's kiss request. He said "I heard you the first time".

 

You know, like when I was young and my mom wanted me to do something I didn't really feel like it and she would ask me again, and I would say "I heard you the first time mom" and then I would drag my feet about it but eventually do it.

I dunno. That's how I see it.

 

The writers were clever here. They left it open. So, the people who wants them to kiss can imagine they did, and the people who doesn't can just imagine they didn't. Neither of the could say the other one is wrong.

 

Now, if you allow me to get all Theoretical Physicist a bit, I could say that both possibilities are true, in a Schroedinger's Cat way, both affirmations are true until the empirical observation, and since we won't have it, they both remain true. If we go for the multiverse approach, she will get a kiss in one universe and won't get it in another one. Making both true as well.

I love the tag with Amy on the couch (and, yeah, I did wonder if her head was in Sheldon's spot--where his butt usually is... ) and I love Sheldon's response (or lack thereof), but, yeah, I can already imagine the way some people will interpret it.  And I haven't even been around that long.

 

But regardless of what those sort of people may say, it's still wonderfully funny and cute and oh, so very Shamyesque.

I was at the Shamy thread in Fan Forum, backreading some convo and then it hit me:

 

Episode 6.14

Amy: (hugging Sheldon) How does it feel?

Sheldon: Like being strangled by a boa constrictor

 

Episode 6.16:

Amy: Oh, Sheldon! (Pulls him into a hug)

Sheldon: Stop ruining Valentine's day and order my pizza

 

Episode 6.18

Amy: Sheldon, all Snow White needs is a little kiss to wake her up.

Sheldon: I heard you the first time.

 

 

So, should we really make assumptions of what the tag means before the episode?

He's teasing with her. He knows exactly that she's waiting for that kiss. " I heard it for the first time..".it's so sweet and funny, and so Shamy

Plus, it was such a clever setup by the writers, that whole tag scene is genius. So many different layers and meanings. Also, I don't think anybody would have wanted the first (onscreen?) Sheldon kiss to be that one, come on. The writers managed to have their cake and eat it with this one, imo.

 

eta: It's the same setup as the ST doctor role play, I remember Mayim saying that that scene was interesting precisely because you have no idea what happened before or after.

Anyway, since you all were on the topic of haters. Here's what I say: I don't give a shit about anyone stupid enough to think Amy is pushing herself on Sheldon. Sure, sure can suggests things that she wants but it's not like every time we see her she's like, "Sheldon, why won't you have sex with me?" She's not pushy, she's patient and like she said, the best girlfriend he's ever gonna have.

I *had* to share a little piece from this wonderful piece in Variety re: the Shamy

 

 

The program has also stumbled into something oddly sweet and wonderful in the peculiar interaction between Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Bialik's Amy, two scientific geniuses who are both painfully awkward in their interpersonal relationships. At times watching the show in recent weeks, I've found myself thinking of "David and Lisa," a heartbreaking 1962 movie about a romance between two youths in a mental institution.

Admittedly, Sheldon and Amy aren't that disturbed, but his reluctance to be touched and lack of empathy do make watching them feel around the fringes of what having a "girlfriend" means interesting, as well as funny

Yes, I was also thinking that he's teasing her right back, but it's hard to say until we see it.  The whole scene underscores just how much the words are open to interpretation and how much Jim and Mayim bring to the words.  The same lines could be construed completely differently, but are sure to be adorable from these two.

I just thought it be so much funnier if Sheldon, being the egomaniac he is, thought he's so good at relationships now that he has one.

To be honest I wouldn't be that upset. It would be sweet if it were implied there were more pecks than what we got to see, but that's all they were and we get to see the first proper kiss.

I completely identify, since I've been going through plenty of real-life stress myself (job hunting, parent's ill-health and so on); this show + Jim + Shamy + threads like this + y'all work for me like the best soul medicine there can be.

 

Kiru - I love that article, and of course that paragraph especially. It says a lot of what we keep reiterating here, both about the Shamy and about the addition of new characters and relationships in general. 

 

..And 'Sheldinger's kiss' has made me run out of likes.

Aww super cute!!

At first when I read the tag, I was sad for Amy, but I like that Shamy does their own thing and knowning Jim and Mayim the scene will be awesome.

I like that Amy goes to see Sheldon after her Disney princess makeover instead of just going home. They need to go together to comic con or something because that type of dress up is his thing. Also, in my head, the most that happens off screen is a kiss on the cheek or forehead because I want my Shamy contact on screen. I'm greedy that way
